I am just starting with openSUSE and have read the documentation, which tells me that Panel->Add->Applet->Application Launcher will let me add an application to the panel.There seems to be no such option, other than to Add Widgets.I have a program, which I have installed, and runs, but I can't see how to put it on the panel

But if I make a "link to application" on my desktop with this as the application command:

Then I get a superuser file manager that does allow me to open files for sditing with superuser kwrite.
I'd like to add the link (to "kdesu konqueror /") onto my KDE Panel so I don't have to hunt down the icon on the KDE Desktop to open it.
How do I add a custom link like this into the icons on the KDE panel?
i just installed MATLAB but while i can load it from shell by typing matlab, when i make a panel application launcher and inform it with the path /usr/share/matlab/bin/matlab it does not start.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know if this is the result of an upgrade, software conflict or I did something I shouldn't have without even noticing. I was able to "Add" the main GNOME menu back by right clicking on the menu, etc. Now, Places and System are sub-menus of the main system menu.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI like Unity, and I appreciate Canonical's work in making the desktop cleaner-looking and more intuitive.I think that being able to customize the top/application(?) panel would be very powerful. By this, I mean both adding and removing indicators.I guess the developers are aware of this, and it's easier said than done. I don't know.Personally, I miss the weather and CPU temperature applets of the old Gnome layout.I tried to apply the best guide I've found to modifying the top panel, to no avail.
After I followed the instructions for the addition of three different indicators (weather, cpu frequency and CPU and RAM % usage), my top panel remained the same.I don't know whether the indicators should show up right away or only upon restart. Before upgrade to 11.04, I can drag and drop some *bin or *sh file to taskbar as quick launcher. So, I want to drag these applications to the launcher panel in ubuntu 11.04, but it's rejected. I searched and only found that I can drag an application from app list to the launcher instead of.

For example, the emacs application icon in panel bar used to be like a goat head. But now it looks like a generic icon, which I cannot tell it is an emacs application. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04 with dual monitors with a nvidia GeForce 8400GS. I can't figure out how to fix. On the primary screen on the Gnome Panel it shows all my open applications. I currently have VirtualBox, Firefox, and 3 Terminal windows open and they show up on the panel. I can minimize and maximize,etc from the panel bar. This is my issue. If I move say one of the Terminal sessions to the second monitor it disappears from the primary monitor's panel bar.
If I click the hide all applications and show desktop icon there is no way for me to reopen just that terminal window that was on my second screen. I noticed this when I moved my Firefox window to the second screen and minimized everything with the show desktop icon. I could not maximize Firefox cause the application was not listed on the panel. I had to kill Firefox and relaunch.
Whether it is just made unconfigurable or difficult to configure I don't like it. Can't move the panel from top to bottom, Firefox did not have pull down menus for bookmarks etc. Where the did the Application ,Places and System panel menus go? In 10.10 and before I could right click on the desk top and add to the panel but, 11.04 does not even respond to right click.If this is a bug that has a fix please help but if this is normal for 11.04.please let me know how I can make 10.10 the default partition to boot.
View 9 Replies View Relatedafter upgrading to Natty (and playing around some with Unity) I noticed that the top part of the application windows are often hidden/covered by the gnome panel (see attachments).
This is particularly annoying for the rdesktop session (second jpg) which I had set up so that it gave maximum desktop size to the rdp session while leaving the panel of top. If you look carefully you see that the "panel gap" is not at the bottom of the screen, while the panel itself covers the top of the rdp window.
It seems like, that the 'anchor point' for application windows used to be '+0+24' (so just below the panel) while now it's '+0+0' in the top left corner of the desktop. I suspect that while playing with unity I reset one of the compiz options which takes care of this. But I can't find it.
I got Ubuntu 9.10 running very well. ever since this morning when i booted i have that weird Panel on the desktop towards the left. It is showing basically the Application menu. I dont know why? I know i did not change anything. Also since this morning my right klick on the desktop nothing happen either? i dont want that on the Desktop!

Everytime I start an app, the task panel will for a while show a new "dummy" entry "Opening Application X", which is extremely annoying and makes no sense, since I know I'm opening it, because I just clicked on it myself.
The "Help" application icon (a lifebelt) was in the top panel until I accidentally removed it.
How do I get "Help" back onto the top panel, please?

I have read "Help" both on the machine and on-line. I have studied various recent Ubuntu books. I have hacked for several hours. I can do /anything/ normal with panels - EXCEPT get the "Help" application onto one.
when I add the Chromium/Chrome icons to my panel, I always get the old icons. If I add the icon to the desktop, I get the new flat one but I can't get the new one's to appear in the panel. All of the other icons associated with these browsers are the new ones: Icon in the upper left when the browser is open is new. When I hover the cursor over the old icon in the panel, the pop up window shows the new icon. The entry in the kickoff menu shows the new icon. The icon in the task manager is the new one. I've deleted all of the old icons from /usr/share/icons but somehow it is still appearing in the panel. I also deleted the plasmarc files from ~/.kde4/share/config but this didn't change anything. how I can get the new flat icons to appear in my panel?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI rebuild my desktop after deleting my plasma config files but for the life of me cannot figure out how to place application shorts onto the panel. The solutions I found by googling don't seem to apply to KDE4.4.0 or oS's implementation of it.
I've tried right clicking on the panel which according to KDE's docs should bring up a context menu which has the option to add application to the panel. This does not exist on my installation.
I'm currently using opensuse 11.2 with gnome. I accidentally removed the Networkmanager icon tool and I can't get it back. Ive searched under the "Add to Panel" list but its not there

View 4 Replies View RelatedSomeone on the forums had me uninstall pulseaudio to get pSX working, and now I don't have a volume control icon on the panel and when choosing to add stuff to the panel it isn't available.I re-installed pulseaudio through the package manager, but I have a feeling it didn't install everything that uninstalled with it.
