Software :: Compile Error With Ntfs-3g - C Compiler Cannot Create Executables
Jun 10, 2010
I'm trying to do a ./configure on ntfs-3g, and I get this error that says "error: C compiler cannot create executables." I have gcc, g++ and everything installed, but I don't have build-essential. It's an offline server so I can't use apt-get to install it. I also can't find an RPM for CentOS. Is that what I need to resolve this? Or is this error caused by something else?

I'm trying to compile a program on Cygwin and it seems like as soon as I solve one problem, another pops up. This time, trying to run configure gets me an error message.
The relevant part of my config.log is included below:
I installed Cygwin with everything that was in the Devel folder, just to be on the safe side.

When I run:

I get this output:
Code:
I need gcc and g++ installed; I installed both of these through yum.
I have looked through config.log, however I do not know what to look for in there for something that might be the problem.

I was trying to compile xbmc today, and got the error about the c compiler not being able to create executables. I did a search on the forum, and found something from 2004.None of the suggestions there worked for me. I can compile libraries, because I did a few for dependencies. The last thing I compiled with an executable was BloodFrontier, and it works perfectly.

I'm looking to create a server (probably LAMP) i need all my programs to install at one time. SOME of my programs are not in the repos and all of them aren't .deb. Some of them are .rpm. I also can't guarentee internet connection, at least not during install, so no apt-get. on a note about the internet i'll probably be getting clear internet. I also plan to connect to the server from my phone and other computers. I know the server needs a static ip but what other configuration does it (should it) need.

I have been trying to install MATLAB 2008b as a standalone version; however, every time when the process runs to 18% it shows an error as follows: "There was an error extracting the archives for MATLAB compiler. Chceck that you have enough disk space and rerun the installer."
I did have checked the disk space which is much more than enough. I have also changed few different disks that are way more than enough as well, about 5GB at least, but this error still popped out when it runs to 18%.

"/usr/include/stdio.h", line 485: Error: "(" expected instead of "__attribute__".
I went on the sun forums and they dont or give a solution due to Fedora not being test when developing this tool, so I was wonder if I could run into someone who has a solution to this problem
This is my last road block so I can fully finish my programming assignment

So for those of you who has built GCC from source would know that you can't install GCC without an existing GCC. So my question is, what would happen if all computers in the world suddenly just died, and all you had was the computer in front of you, and a copy of GCC 4.5. How would you install that?
I ask because I would like to install GCC 4.5 on my old powerbook G4 mac without installing a binary GCC provided by Tiger 10.4 disks. I would like to build GCC from source, without an existing GCC to complicate updating.

i'm a new on linux system and i have a problem with SUSE 9.1. I google for yast repositories to install "gcc" but i only see for release 10+. So i think 9.1 version it old version. The thing is that i can't upgrade the SO because it's a "sever" for some applications, and my problem is that i need to install Nagios, but when i type the ./configure command its says:
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
checking for cl.exe... no
configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH
See `config.log' for more details.
So I decided to install packages with yast, but i can't find any active repository. I very new on this, and i don't know if i'm doing right the things. Also i don't have too much practice on english.
This is the info of the SO
* uname -a:
Linux noc 2.6.5-7.111-default #1 Wed Oct 13 15:45:13 UTC 2004 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
* cat /etc/SuSE-release
SuSE Linux 9.1 (i586)
VERSION = 9.1

I am getting this message: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate. for every compilation that takes longer (ie: linux kernel, kde sources etc.)
I've tried other OS (at that moment I was on Fedora 12, now on Debian; was a Suse also) and it didn't work. I've tried replacing my hard disk, since it needed an upgrade either ways - that didn't work either. I assumed that it's the RAM fault - tested them with memtest and it says they are fine. Does anyone know what else I can do in order to figure out where the problem is?

I have been trying to install MPICH2 on a server node for a cluster I am building running RedHat 5.5, and when running the "configure" shell file, it gives me the error message: "configure:4533: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH." I tried to install the gcc c-compiler from the installation disk, but it had the dependency "libgomp.so.1()", which I cannot find on the disk nor on any web site. Where can I find this dependency or get a different c-compiler?
