Software :: Clamav Update Using Clanscan -d Daily.cvd

I have a server that is installed with clamav but is not directly connected to internet. Is it possible to update the virus database with following command:
clamscan -d daily.cvd
where "daily.cvd" is the current file available from clamav's website.
Would that change the entire virus database to just that file, or will it update incrementally based on what is already in virus database? Do I need to update main.cvd and daily.cvd as well?
Note, using command "freshclam" is out of the question because I cannot directly connect machine to internet.
I am running on a laptop and cron.daily is set to run at 0625 So I wonder what happens if my machine is not turned on at that time.. At that rate it could also be off for the other periods as well (weekly, monthly) Is there solution that will allow them to run once they are online after the appointed time? using a cron entry that runs every 15 or 5 or 1 minute.
I have installed CLAMAV in Fedora 11 and when I try to update it says update failed I have tried to find a reason why but unfortunately I am lost. Sony VAIO VGN TXHP1 laptop Fedora 11 Gnome i1568 Wireless connection seems fine.
My probles consists in that i have no idea on how update the clamav. I downloaded it throu center of software. Butt when i try to upgrade it from the gui the upgrading bar reaches only 15% and desapears. I tried do type freshclam from root command line but it just writes that there is not such command. May be i use incorrectly the command line.
i was using mandriva before and fedora is new i have installed clamav antivirus but clamav won update i must change clamd.d and maybe freshlam.conf but how do i that under mandriva clamav-freshclam does the job but here it is different

I have installed clamav antivirus,and while scanning it shows the following warning
LibClamAV Warning: ************************************************** LibClamAV Warning: *** The virus database is older than 7 days! *** LibClamAV Warning: *** Please update it as soon as possible. *** LibClamAV Warning: **************************************************
And so i have tried to update the virus database as root,using this command
# freshclam bash: freshclam: command not found
but i cant,can you pls say me how to update the virus database...
Im currently trying to update my Suse 11.1 copy of Linux.
I got some messages that Clamav was not up to date.
I tried to use YUM which I installed on the machine but that did nothing.
It seems that I can only update Clamav by using Klamav.
Whats happening is that the system is telling me that its going to recompile Clamav, starts doing various tasks but doesnt really work.
When I use YUM on my CentOS 5.3 server it simply updates Clamav to the current version and then I use Freshclam to update the virus definitionsdone.
My questions is this; is there anyway to get the latest version of Clamav without going through the that Klamav thing. Klamav seems O.K. for updating the virus definitions but thats all.
Whats wrong with all the Linux software people?
Cant they just get their act together and make their software work. Im also trying to set up a mail server on my Suse 11.1 box but between figuring out how to install Postfix, Dovecot, Cirus-IMAP Im not getting anywhere.
As much as I hate to say this, these things only seem to be rocket science on Linux. I have much less problems installing software on Windoz.
Linux software people need to come up with workable install programs for their software products so more people who arent software experts can make Linux really workable.
I am semi new to UBUNTU worked a bit with it in the passed on vps and that. but i am currentaly tring to make a module for *Zpanel* i am making an anti virus module and am going to be using clamav. up to now everything has been going smoothly but i have hit massive problem.

I have UBUNTU 11.04 desktop (with zpanel installed on it)
*zpanel an open source web hosting panel for windows and NOW LINUX (zpanel has just been release on UBUNTU ONLY ).

This started happening sometime yesterday afternoon on a server that's been trouble free for years.
My Ubuntu update is scheduled to run every month on the 5th, so this was roughly 10 days after that. So it seems to me it's not update related. The only thing I've done on the server lately is update a spamassassin rule which required an amavis restart. That was done earlier in the week.
I've already reviewed issues at [url] and all the conditions are correct for the more recent How to.
I can also confirm that, in fact, /var/run/clamav/clamd.ctl does not exist.
So I'm getting a new laptop soon, and it ships with Windows 7 64-bit. So I assume I have to use 10.04 64-bit. I noticed that the download page says "not recommended for daily use". I was wondering why this is, and if there were any things I need to look out for when using Ubuntu and 64-bit. I read the older FAQ thread in the closed 64-bit forum, but I wanted to make sure I got more recent information.
I have a 64-bit computer and needed to download 10.04 again and now notice the following:64-bit - Not recommended for daily desktop usage.This worries me so I would like to ask a couple of questions here if I may.
QUESTION ONE What version, on a 64-bit machine, should I download for use every day and all day?
QUESTION TWO If the answer to Question One is, "use the 32-bit version", and I have 8GB of memory, I can only use 3.4GB with 32-bit so would the other memory be available to use if I downloaded vbox and used a second operating system?
I have an issue, it doesn't happen every day, I can't seem to trace it down. It happens at 4:02am the cron.daily kicks of at 4AM.. The following is from the /var/log/messages. I receive an panic error then the server shuts down.
I installed Chromium Browser and made it default. The version which is available through squeeze and wheezy main is a dinosaur, and as such I cannot install any Chrome addons. I tried ubuntu or launchpad ppa for Chromium-Daily. I added [URL] maverick main to my Third party Repositories. Its not working.

inside my Linux I am using virtual box to launch windows xp. I have one shared folder between the operating systems so as to share my files As I can not trust virtual box and windows xp... can you suggest me an easy way to take daily backups of one of the folders I have inside that shared folder?The files are mostly html files so the file size is not so much of a problem (at least I think!)How can I take daily backups so to not lose something?
I am just in the process of setting up a new laptop which came with Windows 7 64 bit installed. I am going to set it up to dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu. When I went to get the Ubuntu download I noticed that the 64 bit version is labelled with

Why would this be? Why is 64 bit Ubuntu not recommended for daily desktop usage?
How do you download Daily show videos like the ones from this link [URL] on windows I was able to use "Replay Video Capture" or "GEtFLV". Are there any programs which will allow me to download their videos for Linux?
I am running firefox-mozilla-build (3.6.3-0ubuntu1) on 8.04 32 bit (this is not the system listed in my sig or user information). In general it works very, very well. Every day Adept has me update xulrunner-1.9.
I can run apt-get autoremove, update, upgrade with no errors. I see others on this forum have this error, but I can find no solutions posted for it. I used to run Namoroka 3.6.2pre from launchpad and had the same problem. Nothing could uninstall it except Synaptic "Completely remove". I removed all firefoxes and xulrunner at that time and then reinstalled 3.6.3 which works great. I hoped that would fix the xulrunner issue but no dice. While running 3.6.2pre I had the same issue.
is anyone else experiencing difficulties with the latest chromium daily build? whenever i click to launch it, it appears, then closes 1 second later i know that chromium daily build is obviosly not suppost to be a reliable browser, im just curios to see if anyone else is experiencing difficulties aswell
since I setup my system so that I'd receive system errors via email, I get an email each day from /etc/cron.daily/apt.Just wondering why this is, how I can fix it, or if I can just remove apt from cron.daily?uote:
