View 1 RepliesHow can i get full command as and when a partially finish typing in Linux Command prompt. or is there a way i can get the command from history of commands executed automatically when i type instead of opening history and looking for the command?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a wiered tab-autofill behaviour when using the terminal on my laptop. the autofill wont work for applications when i have "sudo" or "gksu" in front of it. it does however work with pathways. on the other hand, when i connect to my laptop with ssh, it works like it should.
example:
I have a first generation iPod Shuffle (yes, I know it's old) with 512 megabytes of space (feel free to laugh). I also have arch linux installed on my computer, with a music folder containing about 30 folders full of music. This totals to about 2 gigabytes of music.
What I want to do is: create a script that moves no more than 512 megabytes (it can be slightly under this amount, but NOT over) of random songs from my music folder (and it's subsequent artist/album folders) to a separate folder. I will then use gtkpod to move those random songs in the new folder to my iPod Shuffle.
I had postgresql 8.3 running on opensuse 11.0, recently upgraded to 11.2 (so postgres is now 8.4) and have problems starting it. I make, su, then as root run:
# /etc/init.d/postgresql start
Your databases are still using the format of PostgreSQL 8.3.
Therefore a backup of the old PostgreSQL server program will be used
until you have saved and removed your old database files

Starting PostgreSQLsu: incorrect password

I just installed postgresql 8.4 package on my Ubuntu 10.10 desktop. Seems to have worked fine. But what is the password for logging into the databases created by user 'postgres'?
sudo su postgres
and then
createdb
or
psql mydb
fine and it never asks me for a password. But if I want to use pgadmin3, I want to enter passwd for postgres, etc.
i have installed postgresql to my fedora10-distribution. when i would to access to this database by using the command #su postgres as is mentioned at [URL]..3/install/wiff/createcontext to install freedom , an error message is shown to tell me that user postgres does not exist. what is the likely problem.
View 15 Replies View RelatedWe have a disaster recovery solution for our database where a dump file is generated daily at 1:00 AM. We have tested importing the file, along with running another sql file that generates the appropriate database user accounts, into a database on a third-party server.
One question that came up was the following: Suppose the database crashes in the middle of the day, prior to that there were transactions that were entered into the database between the time the dump file was generated, and the crash occurred. We can restore the dump file to either the main or backup server. How can the transactions that were made between the time of the dump file and the crash be restored as well?
I am in the process of looking to migrate my PC from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 10.10 as I like it and i find it a little quicker than Windows. One of the major failings I find at the moment is software app support. I am setting up some PostgreSQL 9.0 servers (to do streaming replication) and using pgadmin to do the management.
Under Windows this app works great, but under Ubuntu it seems the standard package only supports up to 8.4, and looks like support has been dropped for pgadmin on Ubuntu. What I can't understand is the open source movement isn't supporting itself - or is it that because 10.10 is not on LTS, they are waiting for the next version to update the package - anyone know? If its not supported then back to Windows I go, because I know the latest version works fine.
Just bought a new accounting program BasicBooks - on the install instructions (Gibberish to me) I apparently must have Postgres installed, which apparently comes with most distros. I can't find a reference to Postgres - there should be an entry in 'System Settings --> Server Settings --> Services from the main system menu', which I cannot find. Nor can I find it in the Ubuntu software centre. I did find pgAdmin III but have no idea how this works either.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile backing up/restoring bacula clients. We were getting an error regarding database tables' version. The error message is given below.. "Found 10 needs 12".
After Googling, what we found is, we have to update the postgres database for bacula. So now we are in process to update the database via the update_bacula-tables script. We are not sure, if it will solve the problem or not. We have just upgraded bacula 2.4.4 to 5.0.1. Postgres version is upgraded from 8.3 to 8.4. It is Debian 6.0 squeeze.
We are going through the motions of testing the backup and restore configurations of our postgres database. One idea was testing the viability of the dump file. Does anyone know of a way of testing the dump file to determine if there is any corruption in it

I do not want to use cron.I want it to be instantaneous. I am working on a web server where the hosts turned-on safe mode and turned off a-lot of the functions for PHP (including exec) in order to secure their servers. Outside of that, I do have access to chroot and can pretty much do anything on the server. I want to use ImageMagick to create dynamic images based on form data.
I was trying to find a work-around with PHP where I can still use ImageMagick (a shell-based imagining program) by causing SQL to execute a shell script after the form data is saved to a table. Is there anyway it could cause a flag to automatically run a shell script when someone adds a new row to a certain table. It has to be instantaneous, more or less, so that the user isn't sitting there waiting for a minute for cron to catch any changes to the database.

I made a system in CentOS5.5. I used Tomcat6 and PostgreSQL. But I couldn't enter my system. There are some error. And I don't understand what kind of error this.
JDBCExceptionReporter.logExceptions(100) | SQL Error: 0, SQLState: null

Is anybody knows anything about this error message.
I've had a server setup working perfectly for the last 2 years. Today we installed a newer version of postgresql and recompiled apache/php.
Postgresql will not start now.
"service postgresql start" = /var/lib/pgsql/data is missing. Use "service postgresql initdb" to initialize the cluster first. To initdb we need to be as user postgres.
"su - postgres" = "no file or directory"
In /etc/passwd = postgres:x:26:26:PostgreSQL Server:/var/lib/pgsql:/bin/bash
how i can login as postgres user and enter these commands?
I'm trying to install a copy of Postgres using the .bin(I want pg Admin III as well which is why I'm not using apt-get). It's sitting in downloads so I did the following:
$ cd /home/ryan/Downloads
$ sudo chmod +x postgresql-9.0.4-1-linux.bin
$ ./postgresql-9.0.4-1-linux.bin
but I keep getting: -bash: ./postgresql-9.0.4-1-linux.bin: No such file or directory I did -ls and the file is there and I can't figure out how to get this installed.
When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.
I have a strange problem for internet. My clients (winxp - S2) can't get internet.Let me explain my scenerios. Fedora 10 with lan (eth0) having direct internet from dsl model, client (XP service pack 2) can use samba shares using dhcp (wlan0) installed in Fedora 10 box. client can ping my linux box.Now problem is: client (dosbox) can ping the google ip address (i.e ping 74.125.39.106) but can't use 'ping www.google.com'. That means ping with ip works for internet from my client. My linux box can. I can use internet from FC10 but can't use iexplorer from my client to have internet. I have enable ipmasquarding in Firewall and dhcpd is running on wlan0 for dynamic ip address of my clients. Can someone suggest me what kind of problem having I? What should i do to success iexplorer for internet? what possibly am i missing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI followed the sticky about setting up wireless and I have come to an issue where the WLAN switch which is on this computer can be pressed, the light comes on, but no WLAN. When I looked in dmesg, this is what I get:
ipw2100: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection
firmware: requesting ipw2100-1.3.fw
eth0: Radio is disabled by RF switch.
When running iwconfig wlan0 heres what I get:
home/j-dub # iwconfig eth0
wlan0 unassociated ESSID off/any Nickname:"ipw2100"
Mode:Managed Channel=0 Access Point: Not-Associated

Notice it says that the 'Radio is disabled by switch' in dmesg. I can press that switch until the end of the world comes and it does absolutely nothing but make the WLAN light put on a light show. And it shows the wlan to be unassociated with any clients. So, what are my options to get this Wireless up and working?

I have been looking around the forums searching for similar problems, it seems not only me had this problem. About a month ago I did a regular update via Upd Manager. The next day - no wired connection.Still managable, since the local library has wireless. Now that won't work either.Just after I upgraded from Jaunty, I accidentally removed NetwMngr from the top right corner of the screen, but that should not have anything to do with how the program works, right? I now cannot reach NM, if I run it from the terminal, nothing happens visibly.

Well, turns out it should not have been recommended. I had restarted and all I got was a low res ubuntu logo and a boot right into a full screen terminal. Tried startx and got a no screens found, I look online for about an hour last night and decided to just reinstall, which takes a couple hours when installing all the packages.
I have done more research today and found to install the latest linux x64 driver from nVidias website, which I did, but it does not run. I followed some more instructions and it said to do a sudo chmod +x <file> which I did, and it starts to open and I get You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.
Im starting to get a little frustrated here, guess Im just used to a lot of the ease of windows and assumed that something like installing a graphics card driver would be easy.
I have a Dell Latitude D530 Laptop (500 GB HDD). I had an Ubuntu Server 32 bit installation and everything was working fine. Now that I installed Ubuntu Server 64bit on a new drive in the same machine, the ethernet card is not working!! This is insane cause when I put the hard disk with the 32bit installation back and booting from it, the ethernet card is working without any problems but in the 64bits installation it is not shown at all using "ifconfig -a"

How can I check which module is being loaded in the 32bits installation to try to load it manually in the 64 bits installation?
