Debian Configuration :: Access Remote Samba Share Gigolo Way

Jul 18, 2011

I've got a fresh Wheezy/Xfce install.I'm trying to access a remote samba share the gigolo way. It is an external USB hard drive connected to my router. I can access it read only using the following URL with Icedove: smb://bbox/

Anyway, this is just to try and give might-be-useful information, but ultimately, I don't really want to use fusesmb. I would rather have the gigolo way working, allowing local network shares browsing, auto-connect, etc.

I have run a small webserver from my home computer and I can access it fine from computers on my local network, but cannot access it from other networks. I see in wireshark that the traffic is arriving at the computer and I have checked the firewall logs on my computer and nothing is being blocked(I use iptables as a firewall), and I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be working.

Server :: Redirect Local DNS Query To Remote DNS Server On Non Standard Port?

Feb 19, 2010

The issue is that my CentOS workstation is in a vlan from where the Intranet's DNS servers are unreachable. For browsing the web there is an ISA proxy server, which I presume resolves DNS for my firefox. However, wget, host, ping and aria2c fail to get any sort of DNS resolution since they're being run from command line.I have exported HTTP_PROXY value, which provides me internet access on console, but,only when I connect using IP address. It fails on name resolution.

My question is:May I redirect the DNS queries to my home PC which would be running a DNS server on a non standard port?I was thinking of putting nameserver 127.0.0.1 in /etc/resolv.conf and then put iptables rule to redirect 127.0.0.1:53 UDP to a.public.ip.address:3535 UDP..I don't know if I am shooting blanks or what, I am not very much aware of this kind of setup.My main need is to provide DNS resolution to console apps.I want to utilize my company's idle bandwidth for bulk downloads, so, using proxy, SSH tunneling through my Home PC is out of question.

Security :: Apache2 Access Restriction In Location

Jan 22, 2010

I've got this in my Apache2 config (on a Ubuntu 9.10 server):

Code:
<VirtualHost _default_:443>
DocumentRoot /srv/svn
<Location /repos>
DAV svn

[Code]....

When I comment out the "allow from" line, I have no access to this server at all, but when "Allow from 127.0.0.1 172.23.120" is activated, I can also access that location from other IP's (I can even access it from the internet).

What I really want is access limited to the IP's in "Allow from" because I don't want anyone accessing our subversion repo's from anywhere else.

Debian Configuration :: Install StartSSL Certificate For Apache2 In 8.1

Jul 17, 2015

Having tried different approaches to install (and run!) a webserver certificate from StartSSL on an Apache2 webserver, I had no success at all since three days. There are many web pages out there in the internet, each is naming it other ways, i.e. one speaks from server./etc/ssl/certs/server.pem, another name it /etc/ssl/private/server.key etc. etc.

Is there a common-sense description how to name a private key, how to name the public key, and just important again, where to place them and what what rights they must have to protect them? And, still important, which config file to adopt (default-ssl, or default-ssl.conf).

By the way, I implemented already the certificates in an other environments, and they are all working (tested with the ssl checker [URL] .....).

How to find a common-sense web page for Apache2 on Debian 8.1?

Ubuntu Servers :: Apache2.2 Denies Access To Home Folders?

Jan 14, 2010

I configured my apache2. On my Intrepid I had apache2.0 while on my Karmic I have a apache2.2. Aftere configuring I tested it and got a an error page when I tested it in my web browser. I looked into the log file that showed the following error "[client 127.0.0.1] (13)Permission denied: access to /my_dir/ denied".

It appears apache2.2 can't access directories in my home folder. File system rights for the files and folders are correct. There is no AppArmor profile for Apache. User settings in "/etc/apache2/apache2.conf" file are correct. The inaccessible folder in "/etc/apache2/sites-available/default" looks as follows:

[Code]...

A trick using symbolic links didn't work either. On my previous Intrepid with Apache 2.0 my pages worked like a charm. Now on my current Karmic (before apache2.conf was pre configured, now it's not) with Apache 2.2 my pages are wrecked. how I can make Apache2.2 access folders in my home folder and which settings are needed in default file for that?
