I'm rather new to Fedora server, but I'm attempting to run a music FTP server, where anonymous users can submit songs into one particular folder (so i can personally tag them), while other user accounts have full read-write. Here we go: I 2 directories, /music and /untagged
I want anonymous users to be able to read both directories, but only be able to upload to /untagged, and not be able to delete anything. I want users that I select to have full read-write-create-delete privileges. how would I go about this with vsftpd?
Very new to Ubuntu (linux) in general and read various forum and threads to get .pl file to run on a new Ubuntu 9.10.My cgi-bin is in /var/www/site/cgi-bin. The server will run 2 websites site1 and site 2. Site2 is html only and site1 has some cgi and pl files. Everytime i get to the cgi-bin/other_director the browser tries download the file or even if going directly to index.pl. Anyone have a simple apache2 configuration file package I could get?I'm trying to serve a internal network site for files throughout my network, (music, video, etc). I remember when I did this with Redhat 5-6 and all I had to do was redirect the folder I wanted to share over apache and it worked. You could click on the file you wanted and it played, etc.For some reason I can't even get apache2 that ships with Ubuntu 10.04.02 to even have a "It worked!" internal site or anything. I haven't configured apache2 ever before. It seems to have grown from one or two configuration files to five or so!

I've been using VSFTPD for years but i can't seem to get over this particular issue. I'm unable to make VSFTPD 3.0.2 work with a legit STARTSSL TLS cert on Debian 8.1 kernel 3.16.0-4-amd64.
500 OOPS: SSL: cannot load RSA certificate.
Openssl 1.0.1k correctly verifies the .PEM file containing both my domain's cert and the intermediate CA one. I've tried adding the private key to the .PEM file and also using it as a separate .key file. Also tried mixing my cert with the intermediate CA one and the private key... to no avail.
Every file is inside /etc where all the conf files reside (also the user specific conf files). File permissions for the .pem and key files are 600.
I'm successfully using the same certificate for NGINX.

I am very pleased with a new Squeeze desktop that I built. I am use to using BSD style init scripts (Slackware, OpenBSD, Arch) and am trying to tweak my system not to start vsftpd at boot. I am building a new server on Rackspace Cloud. When they create an instance, it is a raw install. I have several other instances running Ubuntu 10.04 with vsftpd running just fine.But I have an app that doesn't like php 5.3 so I created a new server instance with Ubuntu 9.1 and php 5.2.Here is my problem... I install vsftpd EXACTLY the same way I've installed it dozens of times on Ubuntu 10.04. But when I try to access it, I get an ERROR 500 "vsftpd: cannot locate user specified in 'ftp_username':ftp. I'm SURE I'm using a valid username & password.

I would like to have a folder (my ~/public folder) openly available to the entire world via anonymous ftp.
I have read somewhere that the defauld vsftpd config is basically this: no local user login, anon only and sharing a folder called /home/ftp, but I can't get this to work.

I made a "test" server recently, put a samba + apache + vsftp server on it. The first 2 work but the VSFTP server is troubling me. On my lan it works. but on a wan: My ISP blocks port 21 so I changed it to 2200, my friend tried to connect earlier (With "ftp://myip:2200") and he had to type in a name and password, he did that (I made him an account)he got 425 failed to establish connection. Now I Re-installed vsftpd again, did the exact same thing and now it just wouldn't connect. saying the webpage can't be found. Question 1: What should I do to let a user acces from outside of my LAN? I think it's because of passive mode: but I have no idea what ports I should open for passive mode? My ftp port is 2200.

Having tried different approaches to install (and run!) a webserver certificate from StartSSL on an Apache2 webserver, I had no success at all since three days. There are many web pages out there in the internet, each is naming it other ways, i.e. one speaks from server./etc/ssl/certs/server.pem, another name it /etc/ssl/private/server.key etc. etc.
Is there a common-sense description how to name a private key, how to name the public key, and just important again, where to place them and what what rights they must have to protect them? And, still important, which config file to adopt (default-ssl, or default-ssl.conf).
By the way, I implemented already the certificates in an other environments, and they are all working (tested with the ssl checker [URL] .....).

They wont register ISO-8859-1, insted it says no value when i look at it with phpinfo() function. It's importen that i feel this is working.
