I got an usb hdd that works nicely with my laptop (running slackware current 32 bits up to date); but when I plug it to my desktop (running slackware current 64bits multilib) it is not been recognized, wich is a pain.

Here is a piece of dmesg that shows the device...
Code:

and this is the uname

Slackware :: Creative Zen Not Recognized In Slack 13?

Mar 18, 2010

my problem, I have Slackware 13 dual booted with vista on a dell 1545 2 ghz 2gig ram. to these forums I have gotten everything working except my creative zen vision M 30g. I have tried alll the suggestions posted here and other places on the net. Here is my output from lsusb.

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 008 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 007 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 006 Device 002: ID 046d:c018 Logitech, Inc. Optical Wheel Mouse
Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

[Code]...

any way i can transfer files back and forth to this would be great since it does not work in vista either. and I am pretty sure 99.9% that I have all the libmtp, libnjb, and whatever other libs are needed installed but in gnomad it says no devices found on USB hub. I hope this is enough info and someone out there has the trick or maybe I am missing something obvious.

Slackware :: VIA Graphics Card Is Not Recognized By 13.1?

Mar 3, 2011

I have a Mini-ITX VIA EPIA LT series motherboard running Slackware 13.1

Graphics card is not recognized properly.

But the graphics is OK the first half of the boot, then it turns weird and stays that way.

The screen is very dark, tux in the upperhand left corner is colored wrong. (Red, Purple, Green)

I did a Xorg -configure, and this is the content of xorg.conf.new:

Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "X.org Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"

One partition of my pata drives is not recognized anymore after upgrade. Using fdisk the partition is seen but just 33,8 GB of the 205 GB drive is recognized at all.

The filesystem is ok. Booting Slackware 12.2 the partition is recognized and mountable. why /dev/sdd4 is not recognized by Slackware 13.1?

Slackware :: Scanner Not Recognized On Epson Workforce 633 With 13.37 32-bit?

May 17, 2011

I had a similar problem on 13.1, but was solved by this forum by copying 80-sane.rules to /etc/udev/rules.d/ . With 13.37 the same trick doesn't work. Here is my scanimage output:

Code:

root@Shuttle:/home/tfrei# scanimage -L

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages). Here is my sane-find-scanner output:

Code:

root@Shuttle:/home/tfrei# sane-find-scanner
# sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
# result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
# scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

General :: Slackware 13.1 Screen Resolution Settings Not Recognized?

Feb 19, 2011

I am loving Slackware, but my Westinghouse monitor is having a hard time recognizing the screen resolution. After typing in startx, I get a black screen. I can plug my box into my trusty test monitor, change the res to a config that the Westinghouse will recognize, then switch monitors and all is fine. How can I edit the res and have Slackware remember the settings? This happens every time I reboot. I am logging in as root, I have not added a user yet at this point.

Slackware :: USB Wireless Card Recognized But Cannot Connect To Network?

Dec 17, 2010

Hi I have istalled a D-Link wireless adaptor - with the help of this forum.

It is up and running - the light flashes and lsusb identifies it correctly, so does iwconfig.

I can, however, not connect to the network, and I noticed the following errors on boot up.

Trigering udev events: /sbin/udevadm trigger -- type: failed /etc/rc.d/rc.M: wlan0 Error for wireless request; "Set Nickname" (8BIC) information; "Any ESSID" Set failed on device wlan0; operation not supported.

Lower down I get

Starting rt2870 drivers . . . /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1: wlan0 information "Any ESSID"
Error for wireless request "Set Nickname" (8BIC) set failed on device wlan0 : Operation not supported

I have on two occassions seen sugstions to use wicd, but how do I use that?

Slackware :: Letter 'e' Doesn't Work In Terminal - Not Shown Or Recognized

Mar 7, 2010

I've been using Slackware for awhile now on my laptop without a single issue (well except that I can't get the screen brightness to change, but that's a separate issue).

I logged in today and went to the terminal and when I type the letter 'e' it is not shown or recognized. It works when I 'su -' and enter my root password which contains the letter 'e' twice, but otherwise is not recognized.

I have no idea where to even start with this problem. I've logged out and back in. I've restarted twice now, but the problem is not going away. Obviously, my keyboard is working properly as I am typing this message with the letter 'e', but in the Terminal it is not recognized.

Slackware :: Eth0 No Longer Recognized After Upgrade And ASUS Mobo Replace In -current

Jan 27, 2010

My office has a box which is, by necessity, dual-boot WinXP/Slack. The Slackware I'm running there is -current, all great and fine. Until now... It turned out that my mobo, an ASUS P5KPL-CM, died after a power surge. Since the XP needs software activation, we replaced it for an exact copy of the mobo. After the change the box worked fine in XP, and I was able to connect to the network via the Ethernet interface. BTW, the Slackware version is Slackware-current, updated as of the Jan 9 update (after that I was no longer able to connect to the Net with Slack). However, in Slackware there was a problem: eth0 was no longer recognized. Using /sbin/ifconfig only listed the lo (loopback) interface. The lspci output is:

Code:

Slackware :: Intel 82801H - ICH8 Family - HD Audio Controller Recognized By Alsaconf But Doesnt Work

Mar 14, 2010

Well, when I run alsaconf, it finds my 82801H and I go on to setting it up, it says it will run, but it doesnt run.

Quote:

Now ALSA is ready to use.

For adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer.

But my song don't work, ..... works, but no sound in that, and i have tried running alsamixer to raise the volume to the peak.

I have a vague idea that, this sound card has difficulty in linux but all I get is 3 year old patches for gutsy gibbon and fixes that are non-slackware so I dont have the files and what not.

I have been trying, but never seem to understand why it says it works when it doesnt work.

Oh turns out, from thinkwiki, [url]

Its AD1984 actually, and it didn't work on 2.6.24.2 mine is 2.6.29.2 .

Debian Hardware :: HDD Not Recognized In BIOS But Recognized Upon Boot

Sep 18, 2014

I have a backup HDD with a different distro for my laptop and i can boot into it via external usb or if swapped into the laptop. This HDD/install in question is debian testing and was working fine, the issue arose suddenly. I was first suspecting a failure of hardware somewhere on the motherboard, but the hdd i was using with an external usb adapter also works when installed into the machine. also, the HDD is recognized once i have booted using the external HDD and distro, but it is not recognized by the bios. so i dunno, my first guess is something became corrupt within the testing install, but i guess its also possible that there is some wrong with the HDD but thats not immediately apparent as all the data is still accessible.

Should also note that the HDD with testing on it is also recognized when connected via the external usb adapter, while booted from alternative distro/HDD.

Also. just tried this, but i can get the testing HDD/disto to boot if connected externally. it was going pretty quick, but there i did catch a line about a corrupt filesystem. any commands to run to see what might be going on?? log files to look at?

I even tried changing the key to something else (that doesn't contain alt). It didn't work either. It appears as if the manager didn't recognize the shortcut & the key strokes were passed through to the current application. Rebooting didn't help either. Note that I can do alt+f5, alt+space. alt+f2 didn't work though.
