I'm running KDE on slack13.1 However i've wrecked my system tray.When i "add widgets" and add "system tray" the widget aligns to the left of screen which means when i minimze windows they just disappear.

View 14 Replies View RelatedFor the heck of it (and because I wanted to see if it was possible) I booted to the Slack13 DVD to see if I would be able to install from an online source. I was actually surprised that I could. Why can I only select the A series to install from an online source? Does it have to do with bandwidth considerations? I'm curious for if I wanted to install -current to begin with instead of just upgrading to it.I don't want to have to download all the packages. Just let it install from the net.

I'm trying to install mongodb (so called schema-less database). It requires libraries like libjs, libmozjs, spider-monkey and the like. I had an idea that installing xulrunner would provide most of that, but it doesn't do so in any nice way. I'm a bit scared to muck up my firefox/thunderbird/seamonkey system, which I suspect might easily happen if I tread wrong.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUp until a couple days ago, samba server worked perfectly. I don't remember doing anything with it except adding another share or two. I can still run SWAT, even from remote computers, but I still have the problem of starting the samba server itself.

After issuing the "start" option, I go into SWAT and the status page says samba's not running.
I have a new install of Slack 13 and upgrading to current will break a lot of things for my 4 year old son (he's a gnome guy, what can I say). I will be using this machine too, and I NEED KDE, but of course the stock KDE packages are unstable to say the least. I know I've seen people talking of downloading upgraded kde packages for slackware 13, but when I google, I find a lot of things complaining about the stock KDE and of course Eric's packages for current.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am installing slackware 13 on a machine that already has slackware 64- current. I'm doing this to try LFS which needs a 32 bit host (I know about CFLS, but I'm trying to keep it simple). My current installation is on sda with / being on sda1. My new 32 bit installation is on sdb with / being on sdb2.
I didn't install LILO as I figured it would be easy enough to just edit the current lilo.conf and run lilo after rebooting from the installation and then rebooting again into the new 32 bit install. What keeps happening is that the system boots seemingly fine, but after some wierdness I realized that it is booting a kernel from the 64 bit install on sda1. I'm assuming this is a simple screw up in my lilo.conf but I'm not sure exactly how to fix it.

how stable I can pretend slackware 13.1 is.... Im getting my share of problems with an "out-of-the-box" supposely "stable" release of the OS... I'm trying to start the NFS daemon on the server and I get:

Now I understand I'm not the only one to have that problem... apparently something to do with a kernel problem or something like that. I've found a website where the site maintainer reported the same exact problem, but his solution worked for him, not for me (of course!)... Now , when i log on and get to the desktop i have no way to get anywhere else . Managed to get on - line via Help icon on log off screen . View 9 Replies View RelatedBeen trying to get Enlightenment to install on my 13.37 multilib. Used sbo to install most of the libraries (ecore needed the LDFLAGS="-L/usr/lib${LIBDIRSUFFIX}" fix so I manually did that). All installed correctly. Then started enlightenment itself in sbopkg. It did the 'file in wrong format' thing, so I manually dled the slackbuild, added the LDFLAGS line, and ran it. It produced this error, and I have no idea what its telling me.

I've got a problem with the Claws-mail client. Couple of days ago I have updated the client to its newest version 3.7.8. Because I couldn't find a ready-made package for Slackware 13.0 I've downloaded the source, unpacked to a folder and using src2slack created a package. Package has been created using default settings. And when done upgraded as it should be with upgradepkg. And it was very nice until I've noticed that Claws didn't load into the tray.
Went into plugin loading screen and saw that the trayicon plugin isn't loaded. This one is easy I thought and loaded the plugin. And then it happened. The plugin didn't load but instead it spit out this message: "The following error occurred while loading Trayicon.so : /usr/lib/claws-mail/plugins/trayicon.so: undefined symbol: gtk_status_icon_set_title". I've found what this symbol should do (or so I think) but it doesn't get me anywhere. I would really like to drop claws into the tray.

since yesterday my 11.04 system behaves real strange. Firstly, i can not use any of my external storage media anymore (detachable cd-rom among them). On several devices i tried to mount, they would not appear in /media/ dir, neither could i see them in Nautilus. I know that the system does recognize them in the usual fashion as before, which i can see in system.log and for example GParted.
The other thing is i can't access my trash anymore - when clicking on it in Nautilus, i get the "Sorry, could not display all the contents of "trash": Operation not supported" message. Last obvious and weird thing was that my Ubuntu One panel personalizations i have made since installing are gone (that is adding and removing icons from there) - it is back to the "original" state which was just after installation.
I didn't notice anything else obvious - apart from the things already mentioned, system seems to work fine.The worthy of mentioning things i've done before these failures was the downloading of system updates and installing of some software (tex-base, monkeyaudio codec, DropBox; actually i've got a shadow of doubt cast on this last one, since installing it required some changes to Nautilus). I don't have any previous kernel to try to load.
Since it's been only a month of usage of ubuntu on my new machine reinstalling it wouldn't hurt me so much, but i would really fancy to find out the root of this strange behavior of the system i am experiencing.
I am experiencing a problem with the DVD reader/burner... At first, I would come up to my office and noticed that the DVD tray was opened... Strange because I never use it and did not remembered to have used it. When it happened, I simply closed the dvd tray and I was all set (until the next time). This issue occurred several times within the last month... Today, it happened again, but this time, I close the tray, it stayed closed for 8-10 seconds and reopens by itself again! It happened 5 o 6 times in a row until 5 minutes ago, I closed the tray and it stayed closed...

Does someone have the same problem ?Another issue is that in my install the /home mount point was mounted on top of an older install of Opensuse.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI dont use Network Manager to connect, but the nm-applet wireless icon wont go out of the system tray. Ive tried to do it through the GUI by unchecking Network Manager in the startup applications: didnt work. I tried to do it by editing the .desktop files in /.config/autostart and /etc/xdg/autostart: didnt work. I deleted all the .desktop files: didnt work. I can get rid of it by killing nm-applet, but then it comes back next time I log in. Is there any way to get rid of this stupid thing outside of purging Network Manager?

I have to use the manual feed, as the tray jams.
When set to manual feed, it prints fine in B&W and color.
However, page 2 goes from manual to tray 1! One page at a time works great.

So I just turned my computer on and it was beeping rapidly, and it would stop if I hit "Enter". Also this came on my screen: Cannot set Fray", something like that. It boots fine..just what is that?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have decided to install Debian 8.2 in my desktop. I am test driving it in virtual box find and solve any problem I may face later on. The isp I use provides me with a shared ip every time and I have to create a DSL connection with username and password to connect to it. I can create the connection from the gui connection manager using "nm-connection-editor" command in Debian.
I am using elementary os freya and I can do so from the system tray at the top right. So, I wanted to do the same in debian also. But I can only create VLAN, VPN, Bridge, Team and Bond. There is no option for DSL but if I create one in the way mentioned before, it appears as a profile under "Wired" network option in system tray. I read some post regarding network option in system tray but I could not make them work and other I did not understand. In KDE window manager I have this feature but I want to use gnome 3.
Can I minimize the rhythmbox so that it appears only as a item in the system tray in fedora 11?Ctrl + W seems doesn't work.

Basically all is great except for 1 little annoying problem - system tray.Applications like Amarok, Network Manager, SUSE updater, etc just does not show up in system tray! Amarok keeps playing music after I minimalize it to tray, but its no where to be found XD.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.04. I just installed HP drivers for my printer tonight, and now my laptop is acting a little "buggy". Some applications have froze, and my system tray icons are getting messed up. Sometimes the little power button dissapears and my username appears there instead, but it's not clickable. This means I have to shut down by using the power button on my laptop.
Also, as I am typing this message, the letters onscreen are lagging quite a bit behind my actual typing. It's as if there's something running in the background that is slowing everything down and messing things up.
Is anyone else getting a non-transparent icon in the system tray when TrueCrypt 6.3a loads on Ubuntu 10.04 with the default theme? Annoying white bars on the top and bottom of the icon. This didn't occur with the same version of TrueCrypt on previous versions of Ubuntu. Any way to resolve it? It looks out of place...

The clock is sometimes in the middle, sometimes at the end. This is very annoying I locked it to the panel, but it keeps moving randomly after restart. And I can't move it after the panel is loaded.
