Slackware :: No Sound With Frozen Bubble, But Only For One User Account?
Feb 6, 2010
I've got a strange problem: when I run Frozen Bubble from my user account, I get no sound, but the same game has sound with my wife's account and the root account.
EDITED TO ADD: My user account has sound for DVDs through Kaffeine, Mplayer, etc. And the system sounds are working just find.

When I run frozen-bubble, I get this error:
Code:
lysender@darkstar:~$ frozen-bubble
Can't locate Locale/gettext.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.12.2/i486-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.12.2 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.12.2/i486-linux-thread-multi
I have updated to current as of Jan 2 but I'm not really sure when the problem started since I only play with frozen-bubble sometimes.
Will rebuilding fronzen-bubble solve it? Haven't tried it yet as of now.

Yesterday while me and my friend were in the train, we tried to set up a wireless network and play frozen bubble. So one of us makes a new wireless connection, the other connects to it, but we observed this: When the creator of the wifi network opens the game and tries to start the multiplayer, it says that it cannot connect to the server. On the other computer there is no problem with it. We tried to change the host of the connection, but the result was the same (the host computer couldn't connect to the "server")

I am running Debian Lenny with the default Gnome desktop. When I set up a new user the sound is not available. It says the device in not installed. I have used the Gnome system menu as follows.System, Administration, Users and Groups, then used the add user button and entered the appropriate info. I then went and clicked on the properties button and then the User Privileges section and checked off the "use audio devices" button. Still no sound. When I go to System, Preferences, Sound, Devices, and do the sound tests I get report that device is not installed.
When I am logged in to the user (jon) that I set up when doing the D.Lenny install, the sound on all various media play back works fine. There is one with 1 exception when loged in to this user(jon). I can not get any sound from the system sounds like select check box = toggle .wav, chose menu item = beep, etc. It would be realy nice to know how to repair or configure tis issue as well.under system info, pci devices it lists as follows Multimedia audio controller, Intel Corp 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW. Mother board is a ECS 915P-A2 and I guess about 2007 or so vintage. 1 G mem installed and a P-4 2.66 chip. It has the sound built in to it. It works fine on WinXP.

I have a user account on my laptop which does not display the sound-service icon in my notification area applet (Ubuntu 11.04). If I try to start /usr/lib/indicator-sound/indicator-sound-service manually, I get the following error:
Code:
libindicator-WARNING **: No watchers, service timing out.
** (process:5612): DEBUG: Service shutdown !
In the many months I've had this account on this box, and as a result of the many minor mods I've made to the account, I've somehow bollixed something in the account setup which interferes with the startup of the service. I created a new account on the system, and the sound service icon displays properly, so I know it's not a system problem. Both the new, bare account and my personal account are in the audio group. As a work-around, I have an icon for gnome-volume-control on my top panel, which works pretty well.

I'm running slackware-current in a virtual machine on virtualbox 4, 512 mb ram, 1gb swap.Everything works fine, except the x11 mouse. Xfce will start up fine, and show the 'tips and tricks' dialog, and then freeze. I can't change to a TTY, or click. The mouse moves, but doesn't click.

Apache is run as www as is all the files/folders. People are uploading via FTP, scp, so the problem is if I chmod so everyone can read, then rsync as a user it works until new files are added which then my ; if rsync fails with a permission denied. Now I can add a chmod in the script so everyone can read, but since www can already read, I figured I would just change my script to use www. I added the ssh key to his authorized_keys file, but when I try to just ssh in I see this in the secure file;
server sshd[29539]: User www not allowed because account is locked
sshd[29539]: Failed none for invalid user www from ip port 54983 ssh2
Now I read a few places already saying I need to add a password to the account, etc. but before I jump and try all I read, 1st major one, will this now break apache? Will this affect any startup things, etc. and .... will that unlock that user for ssh in or is there another preferred method?

I have a user account which is required to run as part of the operating system and as a service. I am currently attempting to install my companies software on an Ubuntu desktop via wine just for the purpose of finding out if it's do-able.
Is there a way, in Ubuntu, for a user account to be given the local rights assignment to act as part of the operating system and to function as a service in the background?

I upgraded from 13.1. I'm using Xfce4, I've been using a button on my lower panel to launch xlock. Been working fine the last month. Upgraded to 13.37rc3.pi this morning.
Used my computer today for several hours today (after the upgrade). No problems. Hit my xlock launcher a couple hours ago, animation started. Turned monitor off. Then a few minutes ago, when I turned my monitor back on, black/blank screen, no password prompt. Killed xlock (had to use -s 9); no change. Saw xscreensaver was running, killed that too. No effect on my locked screen.
I then killed kdm and logged back in to an Xfce session. Back to normal now. I hit my xlock button. Got an animation up, typed in my password, and got back to my desktop no problem.
Here's something for starters:
Code:

Updated from KDE 4.3.5, saw memory consumption dropped a little bit, speed increased by a few percent. But when I added a widget to the panel, I could not see the widget. And when I double-clicked the same widget in the widget list (intending to remove it -- if it is a T' flip-flop), the widget was still on the panel, alive, and hidden.
Then I gave up, and wanted to change the font for the digital clock, and KDE was frozen. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace worked, fortunately. I think for my workshop presentation next week, I'd better use xfce.

I recently installed likewise 6.0 on a Ubuntu 10.04 box and I was able to login as a Domain user. However my domain user account is not showing on the "User Settings" panel (I can only see locally created accounts). And if try to change login shell by typing "chsh", then it tells me user "DOMAINusername" does not exist in /etc/passwd.
Does anyone know a way around this?

I recently created a new user account in ubuntu linux, and created a file called xsession so that I can boot directly into xmbc when I log into that account. Is there anyway to delete the home folder for that account. I can view the file but when I try to delete it is says I do not have apporite permisions to delete the file.
I removed the account and deleted the group but it still shows up when I type in the address /home/xmbc
Is there anyway I can delete this file. It also will not let me create any new user accounts is there any way I can fix these prolbems without totaly reinstalling the system.

I tried to add a samba user account on an Ubuntu machine called "video" like I had on another Ubuntu machine, but it's telling me it already exists. At one point I had added the user via terminal, but the user did not show up in system-config-samba (the popular samba gui a lot of people use). So now I'm trying to re-add him and it's not working. Likewise, if I use terminal to sudo smbpasswd -x video, it says failed to find an entry for that user.
As far as I can tell, the user doesn't exist - yet I can't add him because it "already exists."

I see how to add a user with a full name using:
Code:
And I've seen that if I delete my user account, and create a new one with the same UID/GID, that it would have access to my files.

I was changing my GUI settings in XFCE in my root user account on Xubuntu when suddenly I was logged out and the computer shut down.
(I have done this before with no such trouble...)
Now I can't log into my root account all I get is a blank screen for a few seconds then I'm back at the log-in screen, the other account works fine.
(This is on my Xubuntu 10.10 laptop BTW...)

So I was creating a backup user on my Ubuntu machine, and realized that there was already one there. I wanted to have a user account that only had permission to scp data archives to my backup directory. Is there already a mechanism in place via this backup user to do just that? Or does this account have other uses and should be left alone?

I have two Fedora 10 boxes. Both have a user account, Andrew. I use this account all the time.
Now when I put my USB drive (ext3-filesystem) in box I, create a file in it. It works. But when I attach it to box II and try to access the files, it gives me error - Permission denied. I have to use
Quote:
sudo chown -R Andrew
Only then I am able to access the files in it.
When I attach my drive to box I again, it also gives me error - Permission denied. So in both boxes, I have to use
Quote:
sudo chown -R Andrew
first. Otherwise I get Permission denied message.
This means Andrew on both systems is different. How can I make Andrew account on both systems same? So that I can access files on my usb drive without running chown all the time.

I have set the non interactive with /sbin/nologin (through the GUI), but when I login with the interactive user and su to the non interactive user I get the following:
"This account is currently not available".
