After running startx using a dvi cable, my monitor goes blank. It works fine in command line, and while using windows. I originally used a vga cable and a dvi-vga adapter, connected to my graphics cards dvi, and it worked fine. My monitor is an LG flatron w2352vp and my graphics card is a Radeon HD 5570. Using slackware 13.1 64 bit.

Using Slackware 13.1 and rxvt-unicode as terminal emulator. There is no colors in ls output under user but running ls as root gives color output.
I check that /etc/profile.d/coreutils-dircolors.sh has executable bit, and LS_OPTIONS environment variable is correct

Running ls with --color option gives me color output. As I can see /etc/profile.d/coreutils-dircolors.sh should set up aliases for ls, dir and vdir commands but why this aliases don't work under user?
I am using a 64-bit Slackware 13.1 distro (I chose 64 by mistake, to be honest, as I know there's less trouble with a 32-bit distro) and I have some problems with my consoles (in text mode). After changing the runlevel in ininittab to graphic mode (4), I can't enter any of my consoles. Actually, only ctrl+alt F1 shows some output, regarding the graphic mode (I'm currently using KDE4, the default for slackware 13.1) and F6 is the only normal consoles I have access to. However, if I log out and log in (with another user, maybe) there's no output anywhere (not on F1, neither on F6).

In windows, when i plug in the headphones, the speakers automatically turn off and audio is output only on the heads but that's not the case with slackware. I was looking in alsamixer and the audio and video configuration, but no success.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI try to connect my graphic card with my TV. I have ATI Radeon 4850 card with 7 pins S-video output and I want to connect it my TV using s-video to RCA cable (the RCA output is yelow, red and white, I assume the 7 pins has audio signal as well).
My card doesn't have problem when connect it wit my monitor via DVI, but the S-video out is not detected. How can I enable it? Can I configure the card from KDE? If so, how?
I'm using the driver from Slackware package and I'm using Slackware 13 stable 64.
Firefox does not open under any circumstances, it's allocated in the memory and has it's process ids, but the browser is not opened at all. There's not terminal output when ran in terminal, no dmesg, debug..., nothing.

I am having getting bluetooth working. I am using a home built computer, AMD Athalon 64, 1.5 gig ram, Slackware 13_64, up to date. I have bluez-firmware-1.2-x86_64-1, bluez-hcidump-1.42-x86_64-2, bluez-libs-3.36-x86_64-2, bluez-utils-3.36-x86_64-7 installed. I have a USB Micro Adapter 2.1 from IOGear and a Motorola S9-HD stereo headset.

I have just upgraded my box to be more multimedia friendly and one of the upgrades was to improve the sound card. I decided to get the Asus Xonar DX pci-e card. I have it working but the speakers are not plugged into the front output socket as the xonar dx only plays sound from side surround output. Will the sound be any better from the front out on my 2.0 speaker system or is the sound being directed out of the side surround out full quality? How to overcome this discrepancy?
View 8 Replies View RelatedOccasionally, when startx, I got the error message: "Monitor output has changed" error message ( and sometimes it appear while I am working in X too but rarer). Whenever this happened, my screen changes to "1024x768" resolution when normally it is "1280x800". I click on "Configure", a "Configure Display" windows appear and I have to change the screen to Size"1280x800" back (since it would give me 1024x768"). Besides, the number of error messages will be up to 50s, 60s message. (This "Configure Display" is what you get when you go to "Application->System->"Screen Resize and Rotate" (KRandRTray)) My computer is Toshiba Satellite L500, the distro is Slackware 13.37. It was just installed so all the configuration is out of the box.

If I open VLC (or any other media player available for Slackware) before I open Firefox, then my sound works 100% and there's never any problem, however, if I open Firefox first, and there happens to be a flash video loading, then any other media player (mplayer-plugin, Amarok or VLC) will fail to play sound. VLC tells me:

So here's the situation. He plugs his audio jack into his computer and then into the speakers but it still plays from the computer speakers.
I finally got audio working on my ubuntu 9.10 desktop... now I am having sound issues watching movies from a network share.The sound device continually randomly changes to "dummy output device" and then there is no sound output. The sound icon dissapears on the toolbar. To get it back and audio to start working I have to $sudo alsa force-reloadIt seems to happen everytime there is a network delay, the movie will stop for a second and then when it plays the sound is gone

ffmpeg -formats does list mtv but the only command I really ever used was one to convert a vid to an mp3 so I tried Code: ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -acodec copy output.mtv it returns Code: Unable to find a suitable output format for 'output.mtv' I can't find any mtv files online for purchase or free for that matter, so I know this is all pretty obscure but shouldn't there be a way to convert them since ffmpeg lists mtv format?
I have been given the task to install slackware 13.1 over windows. I have downloaded and copied slackware 13.1 on to a disk, and rebooted the computer, but i am not getting what all the tutorials have shown. it's possible to compile the 2.6.37 kernel patched with the autogroup patch on a Slackware 13.1 system running 2.6.33.4-smp with 2.6.33.4 headers? I just compiled and installed the 2.6.37-autogroup kernel from AUR on my ARCH setup and I like it especially when using firefox with lots of tabs open and other background apps also running. I did notice a speed and smothness difference in my ARCH testing setup with this kernel patch and I can get same results in 13.1??

And I've been looking around the net for information and kept on trying to make my nvidia card to work but to no avail. I cant get X to start, once I put in a xorg.conf stating to use the nvidia card. After troubleshooting for almost 2 weeks and now at my wits end, I now come humbly looking for help in linuxquestions slackware community forum.I've installed nvidia 64 bit kernel, drivers from slackbuilds (version 256.44). The laptop model I'm trying to get it working is an -ASUS K52J Intel Core i3 2.40Ghz with 2GB RAM and with an Nvidia Geforce 310M with 1GB dedicated VRAM.

I've only installed 3 Linux disto's on my main laptop (Ubuntu 9.10 , 10.04 , and Crunchbang Linux 9.04 , just had Crunchbang), and they all had the same problem. In all three , I was able to enable Windows Wireless drivers and every thing worked. Now , I'm assuming I have to the same ting in Slackware? Sorry , but I have no idea what my wireless card is. But I know that my laptop is a Dell Insprion E1705. One last thing , I did ifconfig and that wlan0 is my Wi-Fi interface. I typed ifconfig wlan0 up to see if that was the problem. After I did that , I got and error message. Then I typed ifconfig wlan0 down to see if it was down and it made wlan0 down. I tried bringing it up again , but I got an error saying it couldn't find the device specified. Also , how do I install XFCE? I really don't like KDE for some reason and would like to install XFCE. I chose XFCE over GNOME (my favorite) because I want to try something new.

It's a full-featured Linux distribution with a lot of applications by default, including an office suite (OpenOffice.org extended with plugins), a good internet browser (Firefox extended with plugins), a music player that supports music collection and a lot more - Exaile, a video player, and all the available codecs. It can open all types of file formats. It's a LiveCD, which means that you can test it without installing and after this optionally install it - it has a nice easy graphical installer.
It's the first Slackware-based LiveCD distribution with GNOME by default. It includes NetworkManager and initng in place of sysvinit. It also features accessibility tools. It is also the first release with the innovative portable applications system. This allows you to download application from the site (modules section), place it where you like, and use it. It's just a single file, no directories. You can also use this application without installing it, directly from the internet. However, after this, the speed of the application is limited by the speed of your connection, of course. Check out the "Applications" section on the website.
Besides this, you can install software with the apt-get-like system "slapt-get" and it's graphical front-end: GSlapt.
