Slackware :: HEST/ERST Tables Not Found?
Apr 30, 2011
dmesg gives me these errorsHEST: Table is not found!ERST: Table is not found!I never remember seeing them before. I guess they're some part of ACPI specification but I don't really know what they do. Everything appears to work ok, does anyone know what these do? I attached my dmesg if anyone wants to look at it.

I am building a minimal 6.2.2 linux kernel with slackware on an AMD athlon +1700 single core box.
In the lilo.conf file, there was originally only one entry, which was created by the slackware cd install.
Now, my questions are:
1.Does a person edit the lilo.conf files before or after they rerun lilo?
2. If that person edits the lilo.conf files before they rerun lilo, does the sequence of the entries in the lilo.conf files affect the manner in which lilo treats the new and old kernels? (e.g. If I put the new minimal kernel build as the first entry, will I get an error message saying that the kernel sizes do not match or that the iso image is too large, or some other strange error message?)
3. Are there any other lilo related problems, options, or tweaks that you think are pretty cool and that I might like to hear about?
4. Would I be better off using GRUB?(I don't like GRUB, but I'm throwing this one in here just for completeness.)

First time I've done this in awhile Upgrading my Slackware64 -current VM, following the standard routine that has always worked in the past -
Code:
slackpkg clean-system
slackpkg install-new
The clean-system removed 2 packages -
util-linux-ng
eggdbus
Installpkg will no longer work, complaining that the rev command is not found. The problem hit with the removal of util-linux-ng. I cp'd util-linux to ~/. Extracted with tar and executed the doinstall. Fixed.

Problem :A couple of programs I use (or would like to use) seem to be unable to locate "gdkpixbuf.h". This kind of error occurs, every-time :
Code:
/usr/include/gtk-2.0/gdk/gdkpixbuf.h:37:35: fatal error: gdk-pixbuf/gdk-pixbuf.h: No such file or directory
Now, I realize, this file that is being looked for, is over at "/usr/include/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/gdk-pixbuf/",

I have tried ldconfig. No change there?

I'm trying to reconfigure xwindows because it looks like it's using default generic vga drivers and personally my gui looks like shit and when I open firefox to browse the web everything looks like shit, but when I run xorgconfig I get the following
xorgconfig: command not found
I searched google and couldn't find any helpful information.
I tried running xorgsetup but that's about worthless as can get it only setups the keyboard and asks you what color bit you want to use.

have recently upgraded Slackware/Salix 13.0 to 13.1 and it all went smooth except for one problem with the mixer which apparently cannot be found. Only OSS card is seen in Xfce mixer, and OSS works, but no alsa card.I have a Via82xx onboard chip and a SB Audigy 1 [SB0092], Emu10K1. Via was set up with an alias as the first to load. All this worked perfectly in 13.0. Now aplay gives the following message:Quote:

I want to upgrade Firefox to 3.6.3 The latest version should be 3.6.3 instead of 3.6.2. But even so, the 3.6.2 version is not there. Should I keep looking for other mirror that has the available software or do I miss anything?

I'm using Slackware current. I've updated my current after about two months from the last update, and since there was a huge number of changes I'm having some problems. In particular, I've forgot (my fault!) to give a "slackpkg install-new" before rebooting, so now I'm getting stuck...
Installpkg now claims a "rev" command, but I cannot figure how to find it, since the Slackware package browser on the website is still broken (when will it be available?!?!). Now, each time I try to install or upgrade a new package, I get this error:
/sbin/upgradepkg: line 41: rev: command not found
/sbin/installpkg: line 59: rev: command not found
Where can I find the package containing "rev"?

I'm trying to install compiz with a completely new install of slackware64-13.37. I had been using gsb gnome2 and compiz 0.8.6 under slackware64-13.1. I installed gsb gnome3 and, to my chagrin, found out that it is incompatible with compiz. I'm afraid I'm not "LEET" enough to install the old gnome (gnome2) pkg by pkg. Which version of compiz did you successfully install and in which desktop?

I recently install 13.37 x64 and I'm attempting to get my video card going but I'm having some problems with X11 currently. After running xorgsetup I checked the xorg.conf file with VI editor and the device was configured as "modesetting". I have the "nouveau" driver blacklisted and attempted to use the more stable "nv" driver with my GeForce 9800 GT and the xserver crashes claiming several files can not be found/accessed. The "vesa" driver issues a highly garbled screen and crashes as well.
The driver now claims a kernel module has possession of the video card and the "nv" driver will no longer work. Anyone have any idea because this did not happen when I used version 13.1 x64 with the same card and had X11 configured with "nv" until I could install the Nvidia proprietary driver.
Edit: (update) I reinstalled 13.37 again and this time it registered the X11 server under "nv" as the driver using xorgsetup, yet it still required the "nouveau" driver edited in to actually enable X11. I'm going the SBo Nvidia packages possibly later tonight or tomorrow anyway. Hopefully it should work fine until then.

I'm trying to get HP DeskJet 1050 working on Slackware 13.1. When I plug it in to USB I can see it in lsusb. I've installed CUPS started it and went to add printer - but printer is not found. Ok, so I wanted to choose the series I have but 1050 is not listed in HP (is this driver missing?). So I went on to google on it and I got to HP website telling me to install HPLIP. Ok downloaded extracted and ./configure should run but it is not there (automatic script run has no Slackware listed).

I'm trying to set up my EPSON Stylus TX120 multifunction, and i've successfully installed the printer, and for the scanner i followd the instructions from avasys page: installed iscan-data and iscan (core) compiling them from source with no problems using --prefix=/usr in both packages, but when i run sane-find-scanner no scanner is found. If i try using scanimage -L only my webcam is listed, so, is there anything else i have to do in order to get my scanner detected in slack 13.37? I've run both commands as root, by the way.

I'm trying to install eCryptfs in my new Slackware system. ./configure runs pretty well, without errors, but when a try to run `make` i got this:
[...]
main.c:25:22: error: pk11func.h: No such file or directory
main.c: In function 'do_hash':
main.c:77: error: 'SECStatus' undeclared (first use in this function)
[code]....
But i do have 3 copies of pk11func.h under:
/usr/include/seamonkey-2.0.4/pk11func.h
/usr/include/seamonkey-2.0.4/nss/pk11func.h
/usr/include/nss/pk11func.h
What's going wrong?, why the compiler can't find the header if it's installed? I don't have too much experience compiling package, and it's the first time i try to it in Slackware.

I'm running Slacware current. Ran the updates this morning, including kernel 2.6.33.2. I always get nervous about that since something often goes wrong. Sure enough -
trying to boot I get No kewrnel modules found for Linux 2.6.33.2-smp mount: mounting /dev/sda9 on /mnt failed: No such device ERROR: No /sbin/init found on rootdev ( or not mounted ) and failure to proceed with booting. I got an original warning about the initial ram disk being too big to fit and switched to using generic kernel, and yes I did run lilo afterwards and did add the initrd.gz line. I run Ubuntu on the same laptop and have to boot into that and work as chroot in my Slackware partition to try and fix things.

I have made a full install of Slack 13.37.0. When I try to run the installer of the NVIDIA GF 8400GS card (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.29-pkg1.run) downloaded from [URL], I receive an error message. It says that the kernel source cannot be indetified/found. /lib/modules/2.6.37.6-smp/source and .../build links to /usr/src/linux-2.6.37.6-smp, which contains the full kernel source (can be compiled), including the header .h files in include/linux. The same NVIDIA installer can be run successfully on my previous Slack 11.

I've been trying to get some kind of virtualisation solution for my Slackware64, and I'd been having an absolute nightmare trying to get virtualbox to work on my Slackware64 install, so I decided to ditch it and move to KVM instead, as a type 1 hypervisor, having had success with QEMU in the past. I installed qemu-kvm along with all the dependencies using sbopkg, and I didn't have any problems building it, nor creating a user for kvm, or anything of that sort. However, now if I try to open a .iso on a disk image I created using qemu:
Code:
qemu-img create -f qcow2 ubuntu.qcow 4G
Which I am then easily able to access with qemu using the following command:
Code:
qemu ubuntu.qcow -cdrom /ISO/ubuntu-8.10-dvd-i386.iso -m 256 &
(I have an old ubuntu 8.10.iso on my PC that I used just to see if the thing would work) This works just as expected. However, if I try to launch the same .iso using kvm
Code:
kvm -hda ubuntu.qcow -cdrom /ISO/ubuntu-8.10-dvd-i386.iso -m 256 -boot -d &
all I get is "bash: command not found: kvm" I have already loaded the following modules: kvm, kvm-intel, tun. Could I be missing something?
[edit] Also just noticed that though I have created a group for kvm and added myself to libvirt, but when I issue the command "groups" neither of them are there, though I did use:
Code:
groupadd -g 221 kvm
And I was under the impression that I just needed to add my user to libvirt, without needing to manually create the group itself.I may have misunderstood the procedure for installing this properly, but I'm not sure what I've done wrong.
