I checked the site but may be missing the link.. Is there a script method (like there is for 13.1) for installing GSB 3.0 in current? The site says it is available but not from where.
I'm trying to install a BCM 4312 wireless driver following the Centos howto. Howtos>Laptops>Witeless>Broadcom
On step 3, compiling ... module.I get No rule to make target `build' Stop. When I go to the /lib/modules/2.6.18.194.3.1.el5 directory, the Build file link is broken. If i go to the link source /usr/src/kernels/2.6 ...x86_64 does not exist. The /kernels folder is empty.I think I need to reinstall the identified kernel in that directory and reestablish a link to it. but am not savy enough to do that on my own.
would someone please give me the link what I must read for if I download Slackware without the iso so that I know all the files I must download and write to disk
In Fedora 14 I used to have some links to often used folders in the top panel, and now I would like to have some shortcuts in the Gnome 3 dash. I tried adding a custom launcher to the applications menu using alacarte, but it doesn't show up there. There is, however, an entry in alacarte-made.desktop. Is there any way to accomplish this?
using Slackware 13 64bit, 2.6.29.6-smp, KDE desktop. i installed the flash-player-plugin using sbopkg. when i try [URL], it says i'm missing the flash plugin. i copied the. so file to
Very wierd problem that seems to be happening in FF4 since upgrade to the latest 1337 rc. When clicking on a web link using the laptop touchpad, if I tap the middle of touchpad, the link will invariably open in a new tab, but tapping to either the LH or RH side of the touchpad opens the link in the existing window. Any FF gurus out there who may know of some hidden option that might be causing this, and how to disable it?, or do I need to file this as a bug?
I am using Firefox-4.0b9 from /testing. I never deleted the old profile from 3.6x days. I just noticed that the Slackware identifier icon is now just a generic Linux icon. I checked in about:config, and the general. useragent.extra.linux string is still set to Slackware Linux. Is there something different to do for FF-4x? This isn't a real problem, just an annoying matter of pride.
I have just started with linux and have installed slackware 13 on my laptop - a Compaq Armarda. I need to install a wireless card and have a d-link dwa 125 usb adaptor. How do I install it?
I just did a fresh install on my Asus 1005PE and in admin there is NO Shared Folders link or button. How can I get a share going on the 1005PE that I can hit from windows system please?
In Slackware current there's a problem where iptraf does not show eth0. Here's a link to the bug report and patch.

I've had this show on 2 different current PCs. Kernels 2.6.35.10 and 2.6.35.7. This is with an Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114, and Realtek RTL8111/8168B.
Recently I've read an interview at Distrowatch, where a topic was the compatibility of Slackware and Zenwalk packages. My understanding was that now they should both be used in both systems.
As Slackware doesn't feature a complete GNOME distribution, my curiosity was about the ability of Zenwalk's GNOME packages play a role there. If so, the second question is how intrusive those packages are considering Slackware 13.1.
I'm happy to announce Linvo 2009.1 rc6. It's a full-featured Linux distribution with a lot of applications by default, including an office suite (OpenOffice.org extended with plugins), a good internet browser (Firefox extended with plugins), a music player that supports music collection and a lot more - Exaile, a video player, and all the available codecs. It can open all types of file formats. It's a LiveCD, which means that you can test it without installing and after this optionally install it - it has a nice easy graphical installer.
It's the first Slackware-based LiveCD distribution with GNOME by default. It includes NetworkManager and initng in place of sysvinit. It also features accessibility tools. It is also the first release with the innovative portable applications system. This allows you to download application from the site (modules section), place it where you like, and use it. It's just a single file, no directories. You can also use this application without installing it, directly from the internet. However, after this, the speed of the application is limited by the speed of your connection, of course. Check out the "Applications" section on the website.
Besides this, you can install software with the apt-get-like system "slapt-get" and it's graphical front-end: GSlapt. It also contains src2pkg and sbopkg in case you want to compile something from source or existing SlackBuild Depfinder is included to find dependencies of packages. Click here for a guide on how to use those. I also managed to put development tools in there, like GCC, G++, svn, cvs, so on... This is a release candidate, and despite that it's OK for using. It has a bit more things to do until the release (like language selection on the boot menu), but I decided that it's important to put it here for testing.
I'm interested in seeing what others are doing w.r.t. fonts in a standard Slack install. The 2 main apps I use are Firefox and Thunderbird and both look fairly poor out of the box. Previously I've used a combination of gtk-qt-engine and gnome-appearance-properties ( with a gsb install ) but this doesn't always do the 'right thing'.
I am browsing the package list for Slackware 13.1, accessible through Slackware.com>Get Slack, and I see the package containing the Gnome desktop enviroment nowhere in the list. Should I conclude Gnome isn't part of the Slackware distributions?
I'm a Linux newbie. Used to use Ubuntu, but I switched to Slackware because I want to learn how Linux works better.
On my Samsung qx410 laptop, I can't connect to the internet. I went to the System Settings -> Network Settings and all the tabs there, but it wouldn't detect any connection, wireless nor wired.
I noticed that the kernel of Slackware 13.1 is out of date, so I tried compiling a newer one, but I couldn't get that to work.
I tried downloading this file: iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1.tgz but even after reading the readme, I had no clue how to go about installing it or even whether it was the right thing to install in the first place.
I've reinstalled Slackware 4 times today because of things I've messed up along my way, after upgrading the linux kernel I've had issues with getting back to desktop, so I'm on a clean slate right now with the exception of installing wicd. I need help since wireless is not working.. My wireless worked fine out of the box with Ubuntu,I don't understand why it is not working now... Using Slackware 13.1, Kernel 2.6.33.4
Code:
bash-4.1# ifconfig wlan0 up SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
You might be asking why would I want to this? I will tell you why. My wife. She has grown up using Windows. The jump from Windows XP to 7 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be for her. I just had to show her where things changed to for about 10-20 minutes and that was that.
I did a trial run with Ubuntu for about a month using Gnome and not her cup of tea. So now I did a search on the Internet and came up with a Gnome solution here is the link:
But both websites are oriented towards Ubuntu/Kubuntu. I am just wondering if this will work with Slackware???
My wife likes a speedy system almost as much as I do. She also like the Search field when you click on the Start menu in Windows 7, the taskbar at the bottom, the big red X in right hand corner of the windows.
I just hope I can go this route and change it to look like Windows 7. I will be very happy and so will my wife of course.
Upgraded to F14 today. After banging away on the secondary LCD monitor for about 2 hours, I finally got that working by de-installing Xfce and re-installing it, booting into gnome and running gnome-display-properties.
But "now" there is no choice for me on the GDM screen for gnome. I don't use it but I do rely on it as a 'backup' in case Xfce goes south.
I installed the Desktop Switching Tool and that doesn't do the job either. I get Xfce every time.
How can I 'rebuild' the login screen to include an option for Gnome, should I need to use it?
I have not used OpenSUSE for some time, but I am running 11.4 32 bit on my laptop now. The system runs fine and stable, but I am surprised to find icons missing for a few applications. They've never been there, like if they are missing from the rpm they are installed from.
i have an old p3 compqa desktop install 10.04.2 lts on it. install went ok. set to autologin. when it does so, gnome starts but there is no bottom or top menu bar. keyboard shortbut for terminal works and keyboard shortcut alt-f1 for running programs works but i would like to get the top menu bar or at least know a shortbut to get to network preference because i can't seem to get the machine configured for net access...
this is a 60 second video of the problem if you want to see it [URL] also shows an error it displays when booting up.
I got a new laptop, Dell Vostro with AMD A6. This came with Ubuntu 12. Got rid of it!I installed Debian 7.6 from a Live dvd with gnome & update it and no have Debian 7.7. I saw a few videos where Debian 7 comes with a vertical menu bar at the left of the screen and most of the options are available is a nice graphical interface. This is missing in my installation.Below is a link of desktop image i could find. The left activities bar does not show on my system. URL....
Also including diplay details if this could be display drivers related.

is it just me or has anyone else noticed that the repositories dont have the gnome inhibit applet for fedora 12? do i need to manually add an alternate repository location to be able to yum this?
I'm attempting to play around with Gnome Shell, both in Lucid, and now in the Maverick Alpha. However, when I attempt to install it (from software center), I get an error.
Code: Package Dependencies could not be resolved. This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time. Details > gnome-shell What dependency is missing from the repository?
Stupidly I followed this guide to installing Awn- not noticing that the instructions for removing the panels would bork my system. I have tried the recommended fix code...
If it doesn't work for you, you can always go back by opening up a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and lauching gconf-editor then changing the value above back to gnome-panel. Log out and back in again by using the command sudo service gdm restart in a terminal.
but that didn't work.
In the end I decided to re-install but I still have the same problem. Therefore the problem is somewhere in my config files in /home.
i have some problem with my Maverick, his gnome panel (top panel) always missing after reboot, and I always type gnome-panel & to get back my gnome panel, get back my panel permanently?
I installed ubuntu netbook edition on my desktop (from the Ubuntu Software Center) to test out Unity. It looked pretty cool, but every time I went to the sidebar it flashed black. I decided I didn't want to fiddle with it too much to get it working so I uninstalled the ubuntu-netbook package. Mutter was still hanging around though (and lot of other things I assume) so I uninstalled that as well. Now gnome-panel is gone and I don't know how to get it back. Any way to uninstall all those packages and put it back?
just installed 10.04.2 on a slightly older compaq p3 desktop.install went fine.set to login automatically.it boots into gnome but there is no top menu bar.i can use alt-f1 to run an applicationbut how do i get to the preferences and administration menus?i made a ..... video showing the error and i would include it but i think that's why my last post on this topic didn't make it through the spam filter.
I downloaded mupen64plus from the software center the other day but I can't find it anywhere! Every other program shows up fine. I tried making a manual launcher and that failed too.... Software center says it is installed, but it simply doesn't show up!
