View 7 RepliesI'm trying to format a device into XFS filesystem using mkfs command. Suppose I have a /dev/sda1 device with 4096 block and I want to format the whole thing, how can I execute the command? I keep getting various errors while executing it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to assign pci devices to pci-stub at boot before any of the kernel drivers can access it. I've successfully managed to do this on a Ubuntu system but I cannot get it to work on Debian. I've set pci-stub to load as a module in /etc/modules. I've then tried both these methods:
Add pci_stub ids=8086:100f to /etc/initramfs-tools/modulesSet GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="pci_stub.ids=8086:100f" in /etc/default/grub.
Both give the same result after updating grub/initramfs and a reboot: when I check "dmesg | grep pci-stub" I get:
Code: Select all[ 1.522487] pci-stub: add 8086:100F sub=FFFFFFFF:FFFFFFFF cls=00000000/00000000
The actual device id's are not claimed by stub. Same for lspci -v which shows that the devices are still using the kernel drivers.Again, this configuration works on Ubuntu. Also issuing the following commands successfully assigns one of the devices to pci-stub but I need it to work on boot before the kernel drivers load:
Code: Select allecho "8086 100f" > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/pci-stub/new_id
echo 0000:02:02.0 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:02:02.0/driver/unbind
echo 0000:02:02.0 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/pci-stub/bind
I want to pass ip address, port address and some parameters from command line using python script. The ip address and port address for establishing socket connection and remaining parameters to execute different connection.

I have a server running ubuntu 8.04 with apache2. What I'd like to know is how to go about setting up a domain name? I've looked at a heap of hosting sites, but they son't seem to allow you to specify your own IP address that you already have. Also, I'm not sure about what, if any kind of DNS software I would then have to run on my server. At this stage I'm only doing preliminary research about it I guess.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a server hosted with greatseeder.com, its a dedicated ubuntu server using Ubuntu 10.4.I have set up apache2 together with php5, and build a website from that. If you go though the ip address (http://94.23.251.209) the website loads fine, but if you go though the domain (athenagaming.com) it don't.I have registered the domain at domain.com. The nameservers I got from the host did not work, so I used a free dns site, to refer the domain to the ip address. The site I use is, http://freedns.afraid.org. I have signed up the domain, and added the nameservers i got from free dns to domain.com. But still it can't find the server though the domain, even though when I trace the domain it comes back all[URL]

So I wanted to know if I had to use different machines to accomplish this or can I alter maybe the http conf file or what. I did find this in the forums but wasn't quite sure if this applied to me. I am trying to point my domain to my server with a static IP address. My domain is registered with Network Solutions and they ask "Primary and Secondary DNS" settings in their setup. What primary and secondary DNS settings I need to give when I have a dedicated server with static single IP address with BIND installed.

Can anyone tell me how i change the default domain name for cron?everything i cron runs it emails from and to user@com.com
this leaves me with a massive list of failed mails in postfix.i have mailto on my main crontab but i cant do it on all of them.
I'm trying to figure out how to access the local part and the domain part of an email address in postfix's main.cf. For example, myname@mydomain.net has myname as the local part and mydomain.net as the domain part.I get the whole email address with %s. I want to speed up the lookups by writing better database queries.I've had no luck finding this in the otherwise well documented postfix.

I'm really new to this subject. Instead of purchasing hosting services from another party, what requirements are necessary to host a domain yourself, i.e.:
1. Minimal connection speed
2. Minimal hardware requirements, e.g. disc space
3. Effort to host domain and secure Slackware
4. Will an average ISP provide sufficient reliability, i.e. uptime, and bandwidth?
I have both desktop and notebook with Ubuntu 10.10.In the desktop, net domain correctly displays domain and server name, but in the notebook both appear as blank. Maybe that's the reason why I can't see the shares in the desktop from the notebook. How do I set the domain and machine name from the terminal command line?

I'd like to use UDF as the file format. Does anyone see any issues with formatting a 500GB drive with UDF? I don't see any reason why I would want to WRITE to the drive in Windows, just read...but there is software out there to allow Windows XP to write to a UDF drive if I needed to.

In Unix
Code:
ls -ltr | awk '{print $9}'
In linux output is something similar to
Code:
drwxrwxrwx 2 vinay vinay 4096 2010-02-04 20:31 test
According to above output nothing will be displayed for
Code:
ls -ltr | awk '{print $9}'
ls -ltr | awk '{print $8}' will give test as ouptut in Linux.
I wanted to check the output format for ls -ltr, Anyone using Unix systems may paste a sample output of the command ls -ltr..

View 4 Replies View RelatedI put a larger drive in my netbook and stuck the old in an external USB enclosure so I could use it for backups. It had three partitions on it, ntfs and linux so I deleted all the partitions and created one big linux partition. Every time I write and exit fdisk the removable disk utility in KDE pops up and says ntfs drive. If I ignore it and try to formatit wants to use ntfs, if I fsck.ext3 it saysThe superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2filesystem. If the deviceis valid and it really contains an ext2filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblockis corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:e2fsck -b 8193 <device>2fsck -b 8193 doesn't work either. It seems like its caching something, I can print the partition table and see the one linux partition I created.

I use to know this command but lost it and did not note the entire command on my Linux cheat sheet. Someone once showed me a simple very easy command I could use to simple format a USB flash drive as FAT32 and in the same command also name the label of the drive.I have the device /dev/sdc1 and I am formatting this as FAT32 so it's compatible across multiple systems but also want the drive to have the name 'my_usb'.
