Nov 6, 2010In Kubuntu 10.10, the clock is set to military time. I shouldn't have to do the math just to look at the clock. There is no setting anywhere to change it to normal time.

Mar 24, 2010I have a linux (Slackware) machine and the time/date is like, June 23rd 2003, 10:00am (It's 11 here) and I am not able to set the time to have it correct. I change the timezome to Montreal but the time is still wrong.
Is there a way to force it to sync with my domain controler or even another online NTP server?

Mar 18, 2010For those of us in the US, last weekend we started daylight saving time (1 hour ahead). When I booted up my laptop on Sunday morning, the clock did not automatically update. I have a script to sync my clock with a public time server, so it was no big deal to run it. I did think it was odd that Slackware did not automatically adjust the clock.
My question is this: Is this expected behavior?

Mar 29, 2010I am currently running KDE4.4.1 from AlienBob, and now with the change to BST I noticed that my clock hasn't changed. So I go to change it through SystemSettings and it shows a message thus:-
Quote: You are not allowed to save the configuration
This happens as both normal user and root. Googling around seems to suggest this error is tied to a Kauth/PolicuKit/polkit problem, which aren;t provided yet in Slackware as far as I am aware.

Slackware :: Clock Shows The Wrong Time In Slackware
May 10, 2011I've been running arch linux, with my clock set to UTC with no problem. Recently I installed slackware on a different partition. During the setup I chose to set my clock to 'local time' instead of UTC by accident. Now in slackware my clock shows the wrong time. Also in arch it shows the same wrong time.
I booted back into slackware and ran pkgtool to enter the setup again, and changed my time to UTC. But this makes no difference. My clock is still wrong in both slackware and arch. Do I need to reboot after changing my clock settings in slackware before it takes effect? how the clock or the setup works.

Jul 23, 2011I set my location, but Debian displays DATE in some messed format. I would expect such neat OS to recognize all those local settings based on my location, but that's not the case. It seems that Debian follows locale settings by set language (which is en_us in my case, as I guess in majority uses) or this format is default in any case
I would like to set date/time to DD.MM.YY. hh:mm:ss, and programs that display date data to follow this setting. Simply put, in Windows there is Control Panel and you set location, then OS uses some regional settings, like currency, separators, date/time format.

I'm using robocopy to copy the files. But i have a small problem with sleep. Every 30mins or maybe an hour knoppix goes to sleep and my transfer stops. How do i change the time or disable it completely? so i dont have to tap a key every 30mins

Dir - changed 1/1/1
Sub Dir 1 - changed 2/1/1
Sub Dir 2 - changed 3/1/1
File 1 - changed 10/1/1
File 2 - change 5/1/1
The output for this for Dir should be 10/1/1 (File 1 was the last modified one). Getting the last file name to be modified is a bonus but isn't necessary.

Jan 18, 2015I have Linux debian 7.7.0 i386-amd64 under VBox 4.3.20 and here is the problem:::
When I open the menu from Linux's top-right corner and click SHUT DOWN..., it shows the dialog with choices, and that Linux guest will automatically shutdown after 60 seconds and I need to change that delay value to 3 seconds. Of course I could just re-click Shut Down -button again, but I don't want to do it. Period.
By Googling I found these "instructions" for UBUNTU:

Mar 22, 2011I have just recently found I have a problem under SUSE 10.3. History, I had my PC, an IBM Power Centre box with 4g ram and 2 hard-drives (80gb and 1Tb) fail to reboot after a power drop. Got an error message about the 80gb H/D losing some information. I was able tofix the issues by using "fsck". The PC was able to restart after this, and seemed to be working well.
However in the last couple of days I noiticed that the time was incorrect, it seems the sync for time has switched to normal time too early. Right mouse click to adjust this would not bring up the "adjust time" window. ?Why, unknown. I then decided I would go through "YAST" to do my changes, but now I am unable to load "YAST". I can load it through a terminal window, but there must be some reason why it won't load the GUI? from the menu.? There could be other programs that are also not loading that I have not found.
Q- could something have been lost when I had the H/D reboot issue? And if so is there any way of restoring lost or coruputed OS files?
I have the 10.3 OS on DVD, which is how I installed it, and note that there is a recovey prompt, but need some advise on how to go about it. A total reinstall is not an option at this time until I can get a backup unit running.
