Slackware :: Can't Connect To Port 6667/6668 (IRC Ports)?

Jan 19, 2011

For some reason I'm unable to connect to anything through these ports and I can't figure out why. I have to use a proxy address to access my irc channels.I've ruled out my router by disabling all router network filtering, so it must be something on this computer.

Fedora :: Connect To The Localhost At Port 6667 Using Irssi?

Aug 18, 2010

I want to use bitlbee-irssi to IM using gtalk.. I have installed bitlbee and edited /etc/bitlbee/bitlbee.conf with

RunMode = ForkDaemon
User = bitlbee
DaemonInterface = 127.0.0.1
DaemonPort = 6667

Now when I try to connect to the localhost at port 6667 using irssi, i get the following error message saying it cannot connect to localhost port 6667

13:48 -!- Irssi: Looking up localhost
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connecting to localhost [127.0.0.1] port 6667
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connection to localhost established
13:48 -!- Error: bind: Permission denied
13:48 -!- Error: listen: Bad file descriptor
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connection lost to localhost

A similar looking error comes up when I try to telnet localhost at 6667. Also, I get a selinux warning saying SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/bitlbee "name_bind" access .How do I check if bitlbee is listening to port 6667? Btw, I am using fedora 13, I have selinux running in enforcing mode and the firewall running. I have set the port 6667 in the other ports tab of "system-config-firewall" (I am hoping that this will open that port).

OpenSUSE Network :: Block All Ports But Port 80 With Iptables (DMZ)?

Jun 25, 2010

I have a Suse 10.3 router with 4 network cards. 1 is to connect to the big network and thereby also the internet, 2 are for 'client' subnets and I want to use the last one as a DMZ. In this DMZ will be a web server which has to be accessible from the other 2 subnets and from the big network. I could do it with a few simple clicks in Yast firewall, but I have some issues with this firewall and there for I want to use it as minimal as possible, using Iptables.

So now I'm struggling a bit with Iptables. Basicly what I'm looking for is how to block all ports but 80 in this last subnet with iptables.

Ubuntu Networking :: Bridging Ethernet Ports & Keeping Static IP On One Port

Mar 11, 2010

I'm currently using Ubuntu 9.1, and a motherboard which has two Ethernet ports on it.

What I would like to do is bridge these ports, so I can plug in another Ethernet cable and run it to an unmanaged switch in my room (handy for my work laptop when on-call and building other PCs, etc).

I.e. Router --> 8-Port Switch --> My PC.
Eth 0 --> 192.168.1.100 static
Eth 1 --> 5-Port Switch --> DHCP

I believe this is the config to make the ports bridged:

ifconfig Eth0 0.0.0.0
ifconfig Eth1 0.0.0.0
brctl addbr Bridge0
brctl addif Bridge0 Eth0
brctl addif Bridge0 Eth1
ifconfig Bridge0 up

- How do I save this so upon reboot it sticks?

- How do I force Eth0 to remain as a static IP of 192.168.1.100?

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Access Certain Ports Via Web Browser, Outgoing Port Blocked

Aug 12, 2011

I have a vps server running certain services which can be accessed via a web browser (e.g webmin control panel), but I have recently been unable to access these services from my home machine using Firefox 5.0, running ubuntu 11.04.

Example:

I can access the server on port 80 fine, eg: [URL]

However I cannot access my webmin control panel on: [URL]

The pages takes ages to load and then times out. Same with transmission-daemon on: [URL]

Everything is set up fine on my server, the ports are open in firewall etc. and I can access these pages fine from my work computer.

This has only started happening in the last day or two and had been working fine up till then. I have not messed around at all with the firewall on my home machine. I have tried other browsers besides Firefox with same result.

Security :: Drop Inbound Traffic To Port 80 (http) From Source Ports Less Than 1024?

Feb 1, 2011

I'm simply trying to make a little restriction on www packets under two rules:

1. Allow inbound/outbound www packets (works!)

2. DROP inbound traffic to port 80 from source ports less than 1024. (DOES NOT WORK!)

Now, technically, when i use hping to test my rules, hping3 192.168.100.100 -S -p80 -s 1023 I should NOT receive any packets. However, i still receive packets, which means my rule that says less than 1024 does not work. (see below)

And this is my iptables rules in shell-script so far:

#!/bin/sh
DEFAULT_NIC=eth0
SERVER_IP="192.168.100.100"
ALLOWED_WWW_PORT=80
IPT="/sbin/iptables"

Slackware :: USB Ports Vanished From 12.1

Jul 20, 2010

I'm using slackware 12.1 for some time now and this morning (kind of the first day of my winter break) I decided to fix an old USB pen drive to save some docs... (bad idea #1). I had some trouble deleting some files. Slack kept telling me that the files weren't there, so (probably not the smartest decision ever) I decided to "format" the tiny thing. (bad idea #2). Cfdisk wouldn't do it and I ended up on fdisk. (bad idea #3). I thought I was formatting 4 partitions in the same pen drive which now I think might have been my four usb ports. After that, no USB Ports are working at my computer at all. I even boot slackware 13.1 from a dvd and still couldn't get any USB working. Rc.hotplug is nowhere to be found.

At the end of dmesg, I get:
usb 1-7: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2
usb 1-7: device descriptor read/64, error -32
usb 1-7: device descriptor read/64, error -32
usb 1-7: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
usb 1-7: device descriptor read/64, error -32
usb 1-7: device descriptor read/64, error -32
usb 1-7: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
usb 1-7: device not accepting address 4, error -32 .....
usb 1-3: device not accepting address 21, error -32
I didn't mess with this kernel and everything was just great 4 hours ago.

Networking :: Opening Ports On Slackware?

Jun 20, 2010

How can I open a p[ort in slackware? I am "trying" to install and use Alfresco, a DMS that runs on linux platforms. So far that has been a nightmare........

Basically, according to their support tech, port 3306 is blocked. I dont really understand because I have MySQL DB server running and listening to 3306 on that machine and no problems at all... However, they recommended to try:

Code:
telnet localhost 3306
or

Code:
telnet <machinename> 3306

but it resulted in:

Code:
telnet connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused

If I understand correctly , the Alfresco support is correct, 3306 is indeed blocked. But how come mysql is running fine then? How can I unblock this port? And finally, I need to specify that I dont have ANY type of firewall or anything like that because this machine is not connected to the web... So if I dont have a firewall , what is blocking the port?

Slackware :: Why Don't We Have A Ports-like SlackBuilds Tree?

Jan 9, 2010

I think I've finally settled on Slackware, but I kept missing Arch or FreeBSD for some reason. Last night I realized it's the abs/ports systems they have. I love the freedom to rebuild any package from source so I can configure build options and not worry about how packages from third party sites were compiled (missing features, patent restrictions, etc.).

SlackBuilds.org is awesome, and according to that site Pat uses SlackBuilds to build the official packages. Wouldn't it be great if there was a /var/slackbuilds/ directory with subdirectories for each software set for the officially supported software and then a subdirectory for each category on SlackBuilds.org?I would really like to see this in Slackware some time. It would help organize all the available software in the official sets and SlackBuilds.org and make it easy to compile anything. Other software would, as usual, be downloaded from third-party sources and simply installed that way.

CentOS 5 :: Unable To Connect Through Ssh Port 22?

Jun 3, 2010

My config :
Dell PowerEdge 2900III
16Gb RAM
2 arrays RAID1 (2*(2*500Gb))
CentOS5.5
VMWare 2.0.2 (with workaround of downgrade glibc to CentOS5.3)

Since the upgrade from CentOS5.4 to CentOS5.5, it seems the sshd is crashing every other day.I can access to the VMWare webserver, but no way to connect through ssh port 22.The only "workaround" is a hard reboot of the server, and with luck, I can access to the server through ssh.I checked /var/log/secure, it looks like time to time when the server start, it does not start the sshd service, there is no entry at all for the time the server started up. For instance today, the server has been started early this morning, but the first entry was found after a hard reboot this evening : Jun 3 18:19:14 hercules sshd[3617]: Server listening on 0.0.0.0 port 22.
