i had configures sendmail and dovecote in rhel 5.3, as it was working fine with pop3 and imap, but it will not work for pop3s and imaps .the cerificate is chked with mutt it is fine , on client side i use outlook express/Thunderbird . the ports status shown as listening . moreover the certificate was not trusted by the clients. is there any more setting i have to do .

I've used Dovecot only in the past but my package manager loads tons of MySQL libraries with Dovecot which is a problem since that's not authorized on my server right now. I can either install it from source or try another application like Courier.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running SquirrelMail version 1.4.8-5.el5.centos.10 on a CentOS 5.6 64-bit distribution with MailScanner 4.83.4, Sendmail 8.13.8/8.13.8, and Dovecot 1.0.7 release. One user is having problems connecting via the SquirrelMail interface to his e-mail. Whenever he tries to connect, he gets the following error message:

I have tested another user account, and that user is able to connect without issue. I confirmed the presence of dovecot.index, dovecot.index.cache, and dovecot.index.log files in the user's <HOME DIR>/mail/.imap/INBOX folder. The /var/log/maillog files do not list any apparent error messages with SquirrelMail.
i have some problems to start my dovecot server. I tried to install it from webmin using "un-used modules" but it was allways the same error: "E: Unable to locate package dovecot-pop3d".When I tried to install it from console using the commands: apt-get install dovecot-imapd dovecot-pop3d dovecot-common - and there are no problems with dovecot-imapd and dovecot-common, but still the same error with dovecot-pop3d. I'm running Dovecot version dovecot-1.0.7 on CentOS 5.4. I'm trying to create subfolders and I can't. I've tried Mac's mail application and Thunderbird; they both come up with an error, basically saying that the server doesn't support level one folders(subfolders). Squirrelmail can't create subfolders neither. I did some reading and thought that perhaps the problem lies in the /etc/dovecot.conf file; specifically with the "mail_location" directive. I currently don't have that directive active which means Dovecot uses defaults settings: saving users' mail in the %u/mail folder. Is there any way to configure Dovecot to use subfolders?

I'm somewhat familiar with Linux and became pretty decent at installing and configuring packages in Ubuntu. One of the things I was able to do with my tinkering was set up a functioning imap and pop3 mail server using dovecot-postfix. Now I'm experimenting with Slackware to get the feel of another distro, and I noticed that the mail server packages were already installed. On my client computer they can pick up that I have users configured and my mx record is working.
However it is failing to send mail saying that it is failing to relay the e-mail message and that the server responded 5.7.1 which was a problem that I was having in Ubuntu when first configuring the mail server. The fix was to edit the postfix.conf file and adding the localhost name of my server. Does anybody know of the file that I need to edit to make it possible to relay my messages with both pop3 and imap.

I have a problem connecting my roundcube to my imap server.
So, here it is : I have a working imap server (dovecot), installed following the guide provided here [url]. I can successfully telnet it, or ssl it (from localhost or from another ip of my local network). I can even use my thunderbird from another local computer. Well, for me it is working fine.
Then I installed roundcube (0.3.1-3) with synaptic, but I cannot connect to my localhost imap server.
I have set auth as plain ($rcmail_config['imap_auth_type'] = 'plain';)
Looking in my dovecot log, i see two different behaviour. One is when it seems correct, and roundcube log in imap server, but is disconnect immediately :
Second is when server is refusing the password :
I am working with a plain text passwd, with no encryption at all. Does roundcube encrypt the password I type before to sent it to imap ?
I cannot explain the first behaviour, when roundcube sometimes managed to connect but disconnect immediately. I manage ONE time to reach my mailboxes, but i don't know how, and this never happens again.
I want to connect my blackberry mobile phone to connect with my Sendmail / Dovecot service... Is it require some extra settings??

1. Download POP email messages from cody@clearsky.net.au using fetchmail and assigning them to account "cody"
2. Connect and view the emails via IMAP using dovecot server logging in using "cody"
So far i have the fetchmail part working fine, but i cannot see any emails in the inbox. The messages are going thru however as they are visable in MUTT. i have edited my /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf to change the mail directories, but no luck

I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 server x64 and have got apache running.
I am looking for the simplest more robust solution for smtp, pop3 and imap. I have only ever used qmail before and found it a pain to configure and its getting old so I though I should probably try something new. I have not much experience with running pop3 or imap on linux so would love a suggestion on that.
I've been running Courier IMAP for many years now, but when I added gmail's IMAP to my Outlook I noticed something interesting: when you delete a message, it gets thrown into the trash instantly.
With Courier IMAP (or any other IMAP server, for that matter), when you delete, it first marks it for deletion. Then after you Purge Deleted Messages it either gets rid of them or moves them to trash.
Is there a way to implement this in Courier IMAP?
I'm looking for a method to sync my calendars on my IMAP server with both my Thunderbird/Lightning any my Blackberry. I found "IMAP Calendar Proxy" here recently, but it has been inactive for 5 years. I've seen people suggesting the use of services like Plaxo and such, but I don't like the idea of a third party messing with my calendars and contacts. Also, I've had to remove several viruses from computers with Plaxo, and I'm not sure if it in itself is a virus or not..... It certainly is a thorn in my side as is. This is for my personal IMAP server, so I'd prefer a free solution even if it is more difficult to install than a paid version. I mainly need it to just sync my calendar to my Blackberry and Thunderbird and couldn't care less about the contacts.
I've been Googling for things for quite some time now, and haven't really found anything that says that it will work with Blackberry and Thunderbird. They really only give a sense of maybe with nothing really defined. I can put on an Ubuntu server to sync everything? I don't want to leave my computer on all the time, and RIM has yet to come out with something decent to sync Blackberries and Thunderbird properly as far as I know.
is possible to edited the default RHEL CD to have it automatically install RHEL based off of a kickstart file that I will store locally on the CD. My plan would be to put a cd in a server and have the OS automatically being installed.

I installed Cyrus-imap and it is running and listening on 993. When I try to login, it doesn't accept authentication even though I verified the user's password is correct. (tested with ssh)Is there something I have to do with Cyrus or on the server to allow connections to email? I have not used Cyrus before. I am attempting to access my mail folders via Sendmail and did not make mailboxes in Cyrus. I did allow imaps through the firewall.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up a mail server on centos5 using sendmail and dovecot, and eventually spamassassin and some antivirus filter as well. I'd also like to get the proper secure auth mechanism set up at some point too. But for starters, I've been having a lot of difficulty trying to even connect to the mail server from a client computer in the local network. I installed Eudora on the client and after some tweaking in dovecot I was able to connect to the mail server, but then when I try to send an email I get a "connection refused" error, with nothing being logged on the server that I can see.
The last time I set up a mail server was Fedora Core 2, so the configuration files have changed a bit to say the least, and I can't really refer back to those to set up this new server. Does anybody know of a good step-by-step doc on getting the mail server going? I've read the man pages and other various readme's, but these really only list out the available options with no really good explanation of what needs to be done to get the mail server going. If there isn't a full write-up on how to do this, I'll put something together when I'm finished so others can use it in the future.

We were able to patch it back together and keep it running, but now the manufacturing site it supports is going to shut down for two weeks and I would like to replace it permenantly. Does anyone have any guidance for that sort of thing? I'd like to have the new server up and running before hand, basically changing the hostname/ip and restoring the databases only on conversion day. I've done this in the past with HP UX - Red Hat conversions, but this is my first red hat to red hat move. Any advice or shortcuts?I forgot to add the other wrinkle. The new server will be running 64bit linux.

I need the IMAP IDLE features but I really prefer the POP way to manage my email. It is really important that all the email I download on my email client is automatically removed from the server but stored locally on my machine. As you have noticed this is the usually behaviour that all email client assumes with the POP server. Since I need the IMAP IDLE I can't use POP, do you know an email client that let me use an IMAP server like a POP one?
