Server :: Mounting Nfs Files Locally - RPC Error - Program Not Registered

Jan 21, 2010

First of all, in whether I have interpreted this correctly: [url]

Where we want all users to be able to restore backups. This involves nfs exporting and mounting the backup directory ON THE SAME MACHINE, no...?

I have been trying to fix this all day, and can't figure out why its not working.

All my /etc/fstab /etc/exports /etc/hosts.allow /etc/hosts.deny must be correct as the file mounts (after booting, but NOT ON booting) with:

All the necessary (I think) services are starting on boot:

On bootup I receive the error:

Code:

I have other filesystems mounted from another server which all mount fine. Its just this one.

General :: Program That Can Download Mail From A Server And Deliver Copies Locally?

Aug 31, 2011

Is there an open source application that can download e-mails from a generic POP mail server, keep a copy of the mails locally and then deliver copies to multiple accounts on a LAN? I have a friend who uses a group e-mail account, and more than one person is always hooked onto that account. The problem is they cannot leave e-mail on the server, as it eats out their webhosting space, but if someone downloads a message in Outlook, the other users do not see that message.

General :: Mounting Fedora ISO DVD And Then Copy The Full DVD Structure Locally

Sep 16, 2011

I need to recreate in a local folder called /distro/fedora/ the full directory tree (including eventually hidden files, symlinks, etc.) contained in the .iso file just downloaded (Fedora-15-i686-Live-Desktop.iso).

I understand I can mount the ISO image using something like this:

mount -ro loop /path/to/image.iso /mnt

but then, which would be the best way to get a copy exact of what I see underneath /mnt in to /distro/fedora ?

cp, tar, clobber?

Ubuntu :: Run A Program Installed On A Remote PC Locally?

Feb 11, 2010

Is it possible to run a program installed on a remote Ubuntu PC on the local PC? What I'm talking about is different from simply sending the GUI over the network (like X tunelling). I want the program to use the processor of the local machine. Is this possible?
(Here's an example. PC 1 has a fast processor. PC2 has gimp installed on it but has a slow processor. Can PC2 make GIMP run on PC1's processor over the network?)

General :: Installing A Library Locally In Home Directory But Program Doesn't Recognize It

Aug 18, 2011

I am installing a program on a server as a non-root user. Specifically it is tmux 1.5, but this should apply broadly to all locally installed program in my opinion (I mention the program name in case this problem ends up not being my own error).

The program requires me to install some dependent libraries (e.g. libevent and ncurses). So, I installed them both locally since I do not have root access

cd $HOME/library/installation/folder
DIR=$HOME/local
./configure --prefix=$DIR
#... make ... make install

[Code]....

Ok, so this installs the program without problems into $HOME/local/bin, but if I run the executable: $HOME/local/bin/tmux , I get the following error:

tmux: error while loading shared libraries: libevent-2.0.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

It would seem to me that the program cannot find the desired libraries, but the file libevent-2.0.so.5 does indeed exist in $HOME/local/lib as specified in the configure options. I am wondering how I can get the program to recognize the installed library in order to run. I tried putting symbolic links in $HOME/lib, $HOME/bin, and $HOME/local/bin, but none of these worked.

Debian Installation :: Error: Driver 'pcspkr' Is Already Registered, Aborting

Mar 15, 2010

I recently installed Lenny 5.0.3 i386 onto an old HP XE783 box. I've got a couple of errors that pop up on boot, and I'm not sure how to troubleshoot them. A couple of the lines from /var/dmesg that strike me:weird, boot CPU (#0) not listedby the BIOS. ACPI Error (dsopcode-0595): Field [ALB2] at 120 exceeds Buffer [CRSA] size 104 (bits) [20080321] {along with two other ACPI Errors (psparse-0530): Method parse/execution failed; and (uteval-0233): Method execution failed.}.Error: Driver 'pcspkr' is already registered, aborting.

The most annoying thing (I think) has to do with the ACPI errors: the box won't power down after issuing a shutdown command; it bumps into single user mode then prompts for the root PW.

Server :: Mounting And Backingup Files To A Usb Drive In Debian?

Jun 15, 2011

I have a question?! have a linux server which was administered by my good friend who has passed away and I have been asked to take over. the server has debian installed (installed oct 2008 and would have been the latest version) and I am looking to backup the smb shares to a external usb disc. I have formatted and mounted the disc and found a script he wrote to automate the backup run from a cron tab. Looking through the script the mount commands dont look quite right to me particulary as the owner will swap drives every day. everything else appears to be working fine! the command to mount in the script is'

mount /mnt/usb
and unmount;
unmount /mnt/usb
I think it should be' mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/usb
and to unmount . umount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/usb

am I talking nonsense here or I on the right track?

Networking :: Mounting Permissions Error / Mounting A Windows Host?

May 28, 2009

I am having permissions errors every time I try to mount a windows host. I have a linux server and all the windows computers can see that computer and its files, but we wanted to start backing up the linux machine to one of our other computers. so I tried to mount one of the computers. here is the sequence of events:

Code:
$mount -t cifs //192.168.1.194/Admin$ /mnt/Anita-comp
password: (I have no password so I left it blank)
Mount error (13): Permission Denied
I tried all sorts of passwords we use around the office and none of them worked.

I then decided to try mounting one of our other computers. this one looked like it worked fine. no error messages at all. (I left password blank) so I look in my filesystem and the mounted drive is not in the /mnt/Anita-comp file. What gives?

Fedora Servers :: Files Show Up When Viewed Through NFS But Not Locally?

Jul 19, 2011

I have just tested this 3 times now and everytime I got the same result. I have two identical servers, they are both IBM x345 and everything has been copied directly from one to the other so they are exact duplicates other than the hard drive and partition sizes. When copying over the /svn directory it looks like everything copied successfully (I have tested rsync and cp) but when I go to look at the files locally there is nothing there. I can view the files without issue over the nfs share that I am using to copy the files but nothing is there locally. Even df shows that there is nothing there. The other server on the network shows the files there and using du I can see that the size is correct on all of them.

Before anyone suggests this is a permission issue, I was using root to see if the files are there but even root does not see anything. I am completely lost on this and even google does not seem to come up with anything. The servers are running fedora 12, the /etc/exports file is placed below.

Code:
/ export 10.0.0.201(rw,no_root_squash)

Ubuntu :: Error : Mount.nfs : Access Denied By Server While Mounting Hostname

Sep 20, 2010

I just built an AMD Phenom II Six Core with 4 Gigs Ram a 160Gib / and swap, and (2) Two Tb mirror for Raid (data storage) I had been using DMRAID in the deprecated box but this box has MDADM v3.1.4 - 31st August 2010 from source (on MDADM wikipedia).

I have no permission problems with using the raid and dmraid is un-installed. The raid is working perfectly and is mounted in my fstab with ext4 defaults 0 2 as my options.

I have two exports
/media/raid/Test
/test

Both show IP and subnet on the showmount -e for the server. I can mount the test just fine on the server. I cannot, however, mount the /media/raid/Test error: mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting hostname:/media/raid/Test Using dmraid I am able to have the deprecated box export and mount nfs shares from the raid but using MDADM on the new computer, I cannot. I get similar results with pointing MYSQL's data folder to a location on the "/media/raid/Database" (even with apparmor entries).

Server :: Can't Log In Locally (keep Getting Login Prompt Over And Over) On Red Hat EL5?

Nov 19, 2010

We've set up a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 server and can log into it remotely just fine (with root and other users), but if I try to log in locally with a keyboard and monitor connected to the machine, I keep being returned to the login prompt. If a login is incorrect, I get an error message, but if it is correct then the screen just blanks and shows the login prompt again.While booting the only error message that comes up has to do with SNMPD, so I don't think it's related.

I read this post on the forum which seemed like a similar problem but it didn't help (I wasn't getting the "Module is unknown" message he was). I also read another post somewhere that said he was having the problem because the server was trying to use AD to authenticate, but I checked that and it's not the case with our server.From what I'm told (I didn't set up the server myself) it used to work fine, but then "something" happened one day that made it do this.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Mount IPhone DBus Error - "Mountpoint Already Registered"

Apr 25, 2011

"Unable to mount iPhone DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered" The above error appears upon plugging in my iPhone 3GS using a USB connection on Ubuntu 10.04. Attempting to transfer tracks to the iPhone (using Rythmbox) results in this error: "Error Transferring Track Error while getting peer-to-peer dbus connection: The name :1.140 was not provided by any .service files"

The interesting part is that I can unmount the iPhone get back into Nautilus and the iPhone icon will still be there on the left side pane. Unmounting from Nautilus does not get rid of the iPhone icon until I physically disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone. Clicking on the unmount/eject icon next to the iPhone icon in Nautilus removes the unmount/eject icon, but it does not remove the iPhone from the left side pane. My other USB devices, such as the 2TB external iOmega hard drive, exhibit identical behavior. I'm guessing that this is a gvfs bug since it appears very similar to other gvfs bugs that I've found from a couple of years ago. I am using gvfs 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~ppa1.

My iPhone used to sync work perfectly using this same Ubuntu PC as late as November 2010. There were no changes made to the iPhone, only updates to Ubuntu -- I'd like to emphasize updates; no new software was installed on this Ubuntu PC.

Server :: Vsftpd: Can Connect Remotely But Not Locally?

Jan 31, 2011

I'm running vsftpd-2.2.2 on Slackware 13.1 and I'm behind a NAT with a dynamic IP. I'm using pasv_address, which makes it necessary to have a crontab that checks whether my IP has changed, and if it has, edits the conf and restarts vsfptd. It's hackish but it works. I have also enabled FTPES on the same port that normal FTP runs. I have allowed only the 5001:5003 ports and I am aware that the recommented is 50 ports. However I never had an issue with the transfers since I'm the only user and have at maximum two simultaneous transfers.

I can connect remotely with FTP and FTPES with every client I tried but I'm having issues locally. FileZilla refuses to connect on FTP and FTPES. WinSCP can connect on FTP but not FTPES. Issues are gone if I enable pasv_promiscuous, which the manpage strongly recommends not to use unless "you know what you're doing". I don't. Why is this happening? And, can I fix the local connections without resorting to pasv_promiscuous?

Here is my config and log files from a failed local attempt.

vsftpd.conf

Code:

anonymous_enable=NO
local_enable=YES
write_enable=YES
local_umask=022

CentOS 5 :: Unable To Gain Access To Server Locally?

Jun 30, 2009

We have a server were we no longer seem to be able to gain access, neither locally or remotely.When we try to connect via SSH we get a "Connection Refused". We have checked that it's not our standard firewall blocking the request, so it can either be the local firewall (which we disabled when installing) or that the process isn't running.However, when we try to login locally on the machine (as root) all we get is "Login failed". We've tried restarting the machine in single user mode to change the root password, and while we can do this succesfully, it still doesn't give us access when rebooting the machine afterwards.No other users (besides the standard users created when installing) are available on the server, so we can't say if this is a problem with the root account, or with logging on in general.

I'm trying to workaround a limitation in a server application. The limitation is that I can only connect to a LOCAL mysql database. I am trying to fool the server in to using a remote mysql database. I was hoping to do this by simply forwarding 3306 to another server on the same subnet.To that end I've set up iptables rules to forward all connections to port 3306 to a non-standard mysql port on a remote server. This works, except that I need to deal with the loopback interface in a special way and I'm stuck.
