I am trying to learn dns on my ubuntu 8.When the client tries to register is see the following error in the syslogunable to add reverse map from 10.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa. to tftpadmin-desktop.bbnl.iNot sure where i am going wrong. If somebody can help me out here, that will be a great help.the configurations are as follows
tftpadmin@bbnldmn:/etc/bind$ cat named.conf.local // // Do any local configuration here
I did a basic installation of Debian, which will be used for a mail server. I Installed the bind9 and did the configuration of the zones and created the files in the directory / etc / bind. After the process I typed the following command to test my DNS:
nslookup mail.hotelpart.com and presented the following error:
Easier to stay I put my files in message: The files named.conf, db.hotelpart.com and db.111.20.11.200.
I'm running bind9 on Debian 6. I have a primary domain, 44kg.net, fully configured and working dynamically (the server also runs DHCPd and updates the DNS records properly).

To access my externally-facing website, which has a blog and a forum which are keyed to the external domain, I set up the domains in bind so they would resolve to the server's internal IP. This worked great for a few months, then inexplicably ceased working. I didn't touch anything, but it coincided with our router dropping its VLANs. I've moved the server to a different location and it's still not working properly. Whenever I try to lookup the external domains, I get SERVFAILs. This is annoying because the internal domain is fully working and I copied the basic settings.
I've been forced to setup a dns server on centos as the sys admin is away. I've installed Bind with chroot and its working fine, however I cant seem to get my domain to work. Below is the configuration
I currently run Windows Server 2008 at my office, but I'm looking to test Samba as a PDC for future reference/consulting work. Before I go and try to configure Samba, I wanted to ask if anyone can think of pitfalls I would run into and perhaps recommend a better setup: <10 PCs running either Windows XP, Vista, or 7.
VirtualBox running Debian (planning on swapping for Fedora) on a Windows XP Home computer. Computers are connected to a large switch, which is connected to a wireless router. The Windows server doesn't employ ICS (essentially is just a $1500 PDC ). where I could find a .ovm format image of a windows server installation? I'm guessing vmware would work in this regard, but I'm not fond of using purposely crippled software.
I have installed a linux server in my office to run 16 machines. Its main use will be a internal mail server but will be also running websites.
I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 server x64 and have got apache running.
I am looking for the simplest more robust solution for smtp, pop3 and imap. I have only ever used qmail before and found it a pain to configure and its getting old so I though I should probably try something new. I have not much experience with running pop3 or imap on linux so would love a suggestion on that.
I'm trying to design an inexpensive large scale DNS server but fail to find any metrics or methods to base scalabilty. Can anyone offer information on building a stable dedicated DNS server? That might be able to scale well.
I've been trying to install Ubuntu Server onto Microsoft Virtual Server at the request of my boss, and I've been having an issue I cannot seem to work around. Now my background on Ubuntu and linux in general isnt amazing, I have configured server at home to act as a file sharing platform and a media server, but thats about it.
Now I've gone to install it on the MVS at work and once the install completes, I recieve the following error: Hypervisor error.JPG
I've tried running the install but limiting the resolution, but from what I can rememeber server doesnt install the GUI to start with, so it should just be showing me the standard CLI.
I'm trying to setup DNS server. But i'm getting this strange problem.normally nslookup and workin for other sites.problem only with my local setup. can't see what i'm doing wrong.i've had setted up DNS server before but had no problems.can't see any solution on google.
There is server with 3 hdd mounted to /h1 /h3 /h4 and its a file server contain 3 TB of data (must of them are in zip or rar format), We need to move whole files to the new server.I need a command or bash file to show me the name of files in these partition and the patch of them in the txt log file. (So i can create the link and download all of them in new server with download manager).I tried rsync but its too slow...After we created the links of whole files we will deny all ip address exclude new server IP address in nginx then we can transfer them all fast. (The servers are in 1 datacenter.)
I am ClearCase Admin, new to Linux administration and our development environment is in linux servers. I have found that our development server which is RHEL 3 (also ClearCase client) hangs when user gives find command. After some time of execution of the find command the server hangs. We have to hard-boot the server. Is this the normal behaviour of the Servers? This server which I am talking about is highly used.Sometimes 120 or more terminals will be opened and few compilation will be happening in the server. And same single user some times opens multiple terminals and works simulataneously. We have been monitoring the server and found out that during the workdays CPU usage % goes very high.

I recently did my first installation of centos on a vm. I tried playing around for a while but when I tried doing an update it says Determining fastest mirrors for a while then gave me Could not retrieve mirrorlist [url]
When trying to run 'yum update' or 'yum install' i get the following message:
Quote:
# yum update Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, kmod Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile YumRepo Error: All mirror URLs are not using ftp, http[s] or file.
I am merely trying to change the port for my ssh server. However it isn't changing.I edited my ssh_config file to:
Code:
# This is the ssh client system-wide configuration file. See # ssh_config(5) for more information. This file provides defaults for[code]...
When i try to connect to my server via port 443 i get a connection refused error. However when i try to connect via port 22 it connects. Since that didn't work, i tried restarting the entire server. To restate, i changed the config file and restarted ssh then the computer, however the port didn't change.Ohh and yes my router is set to port forwarding on port 443, though it doesn't matter since I'm inside the network.
I am getting these error in RHEL 5.3 while i did "yum update".

The program package-cleanup is found in the yum-utils package.
I've tried /etc/init.d/mysql start, and it actually starts, or at least, it doesn't error out. But when I do pgrep mysql I get nothing, and when I try to login with mysql -p as root, I get
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)
None of my other logins work, either, but since pgrep mysql didn't work, it's clear that MySQL just isn't running. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling mysql-server via apt-get, but I get the same thing. The logs in /var/log/syslog show this:
Apr 11 14:31:26 /etc/init.d/mysql[9774]: #007/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed Apr 11 14:31:26 /etc/init.d/mysql[9774]: error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server

i tried to download the nvidia driver for a custom version of opensuse 11.1 but it comes up with an error after i fill in the server name and directory on server which prevents the installation. help!
the error is: ERROR! A valid domain name consists of components seperated by dots. Each component contains letters, digits, numbers, and hyphens. A hyphen may not start or end a component and the last component may not begin with a digit. A valid IP address consists of four integers in the range of 0-255 seperated by dots.
however, i have not got a domain name or an ip filled in. the download website (Nvidia Installer HOWTO for SUSE LINUX users) did not provide either. i dont know why it wont work without them.
When I am trying to run the Xserver using the command startx I am getting the below mentioned error
xauth: creating new authority file /oracle/oracle10g/.serverauth.22555 Fatal server error:PAM authentication failed, cannot start X server. Perhaps you do not have console ownership?
Perty self explanitory, I'm trying to boot up ubunto server edition 10.10 from a USB stick (pen drive) and it works fine until step 3 when it says "Your installation CD-ROM couldn't be mounted. This probably means that the CD-ROM was not put in the drive. If so you can insert it and try again
Try again to mount the CD-ROM? <Yes> <No>"
I don't have an installation cd-rom! I put the .iso file onto a memory stick, inserted it into my old computer (which i will turn into a server later) , restarted it and got past the first two slides and got this error? Do I have to put the iso on a cd-rom?
