When a request is made via https, php displays the content fine. If the request is made over HTTP the file is offered for download, rather than displaying it.
I know its probably something trivial but I've never seen this issue.
The plot thickens, I can display PHP over HTTP in some directories but not others (which offer the file for download)?

Actually things are working OK.
However, ON THE SERVER php only gets interpreted by the FireFox browser when called upon localhost:

When called thru the IP:
BUT when I call

FROM ANOTHER CLIENT-COMPUTER, for example my windows computer with XP, using Internet Explorer, then it works!
So, does s.o. have any idea why the same call that does work on another client does not work on the Server? And why does the call with localhost on the server work?
Is that a bug in the FireFox-Browser or where do I have to tell him that he should interpret the php-code also from the IP and not only from loccalhost?
how to update my system online (for example my firefox 3.0 to 3.5) but i can't figure out how this possibly works. I tried the "online update" using Yast2 but apparently (according to Yast) there is nothing at all to be patched on my system. I tried to click on the Firefox-3.5.5 rpm in the repository web-interface and open it using "install software" but the process aborts because of unresolved dependencies. Is there an easy way to update software without having to download/install every dependency manually?

Since the DVD is only 4.7GB and missing some stuff (e.g. pvm) I decided to download the network install /oss folder for openSUSE 11.2 so that I can install multiple copies locally and keep my bandwidth usage down.
I've downloaded the full /oss folder using wget -r and wget -cr during my ISP's free bandwidth slot (12-8am - and it took 2 sessions to get it all).Wget didn't throw up any errors so why the difference?Is there any (simple) way I can check the integrity of the download?

I can connect to the internet I can download things from the internet but anything pretending to ubuntu I just can't I've tried everything and it just doesn't work. When I try installing software from synapatic, the same thing happens but it won't download even the first item. The same thing also happens when I try apt-get from the terminal. The same thing also happens when I try downloading a .deb file and the said piece of software has unmet dependencies. I tried switching the software server from the US server to the main server, but when I try updating the sources, I get a couple error windows.

I just installed ubuntu server on a spare pc I have and I plan on hosting forums on it. I don't want to install the gui on it and waste resources as the pc is not all that new. But I don't know how to download things into the pc and store them in folders through the CLI. View 2 Replies View RelatedI just setup a vsftpd server and I am baffled about one issue. I allow local login and have not chroot anybody and disallow anonymous login. When connected as a local user I can browse the servers file system including the root (/) directory. There I can download whatever file I want but not write to it.All permissions are untouched since installing the server.Looking at the file permissions they are in general rwxr-xr-x (root root)
Isn't this a security threat? If so it seems strange as these are the default permissions. I don't dare changing the permissions for the entire file system.

Download only seems to be a more esoteric option.I saw a reference to a yum plug-in for this, but I'd really like to avoid installing anything new, or altering the behavior of system tools. In a pinch download with FTP might work.
