Jan 21, 2010After i installing apatche and i installing php time to test in my server. I couldn't do that from my server, i don't have GUI so, how can we do it?

Jul 1, 2010I tried to install fedora in my pc. First I insert fedora dvd and install as per procedure then finally system says like that your installation is completed please reboot ur system. So, before reboot I tried to eject my fedora dvd but it couldn't come out. So after click reboot I eject that dvd. And I got error msg like "media test failure exiting intel boot agent". How can I overcome this error.

Mar 29, 2010I have several file servers in our offices and I am relatively new to Ubuntu / Linux. I get notices that there are updates for the server software from time to time. Is it typical to update everything when available or should I follow "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..." mentality?I would hate for everything to be working fine and then have an update throw me a curve.

Aug 4, 2009I am hosting two Virtual Servers both running Centos 5.3 on a host machine also running the same OS. The VM software in use is Xen, as supplied with the OS.The host machine's time and date is fine, however both Virtual Servers are running ahead of real time consitantly.Running /etc/init.d/ntpd restart will resolve the issue however one of these is running MailScanner and when the time suddenly goes backwards, sometimes by as much as an hour, it stops working properly.

You can try to start the mysqld daemon with:

Server :: Ntpd - Time Server - Not Time Source ?
Jul 14, 2011I have a set of machines on a disconnected network. Periodically, one of the machines connects to the internet and synchronizes its time with a time server that is not known until the connection is established. (The machine queries a central command server for the address of the time server it should synchronize to.)
I then use a custom tool to do some calculations to call adjtimex() and adjust the clock so that it runs fairly accurately.
I know ntpd is supposed to be able to handle disconnected networks but I thought you had to preconfigure the servers in the configuration file.
My intent is to run ntpd on this machine (without configured "server"s) so that it can serve time to the internal network. (Periodic synchronization using ntpdate from the internal machine to the bridge machine.)
The problem: ntpd wants to fuss with the values I set using adjtimex(). I want it to quit thinking it needs to adjust the clock and just serve time to the internal network. (Maybe I have a GPS time source hooked directly to the machine!)

Sep 22, 2010This is an odd question, but I can't figure out why my nagios emails aren't being sent. In fact, I got my last one three days ago so it *should* be working.
I have everything in contacts.cfg, and the admin page tells me that the following should be sent: Unknown, Warning, Critical, Recovery, Flapping, Downtime
I also have notify-service-by-email and notify-host-by-email.
I have no idea if nagios emails just don't want to be sent or what -- and I'm not even sure if the nagios emails are even trying to be sent.
Here's my contacts.cfg code...
There's nothing in /var/log/nagios besides the mention of that email address in objects.cache, so I have no idea if an email was attempted to be sent. My sendmail queue is empty as well.
Meanwhile, I have some downtime on a service and didn't get notified. Only the web interface is helping me out here. Any ideas why I am not getting email? How can I run a test to see if everything's working okay?

But we notice, that in run time the system load of one CPU is quite often 100%. I am not sure if this is caused by the application running on Jboss or there is error by configuration on Linux.

Aug 11, 2010I have downloaded the Apache web server so I can set up a local web server to test my PHP pages. The download automatically went into the default "Downloads" folder instead of the /opt folder where the Apache instructions said to download the file to. I have tried to move the file from the Downloads folder to the /opt folder but am denied access - says I don't have enough privileges (or some such thing?). Bummer.
So I tried to use the terminal to install the file that I downloaded from Apache (following their instructions - actually copied/pasted the command line so there would be no typo problem) - no joy.
The first thing I was instructed to do was to enter the su command, which I did, and was asked for a password. I have tried every password I have ever used on this system and I receive the following:
su: Authentication failure
and it returns me to the prompt. What is my password?
I checked the archives for similar problems and came up with zero relevant hits.

I have a 1701HG 2Wire wireless router that I use for my home network. I have an old pentium 3 tower that is just laying around, and I want to be able to host my projects on it for testing. Basically, I just want to be able to do everything on my laptop and then upload it to the server for testing.
I have set up an Ubuntu LAMP server on the desktop and am able to do everything I want via SFTP; however, I want to be able to type in "projectx.local" in a browser on my laptop to go to one test site, "projectz.local" to go to another, etc.
Is this possible, since I do not have the server set up as my gateway? It is merely connected to the router like everything else.

Server :: Sendmail: Telnet Test From External Networks
Jul 22, 2010I seem to having some strange issues with my new sendmail server and was hoping that somebody can offer some assistance with this issue. I recently tried to setup an enviromental monitor that sends alerts via email using a dedicated email account I created on my sendmail server. For whatever reason, it does not seem to be able to send emails, and I have verified the account credentials multiple times.
So I attempted to run a telnet SMTP test to determine what the problem was. I was able to connect and send the emails using this test perfectly fine from my local subnet, however I ran into problems attempting this test from the outside world. When I connect the SMTP PORT 25 from the outside world, I get what seems to be a malformed SMTP greeting.
