I'm using KDE Version 4.4.00 on OS11.2 all my browsers (konqueror, firefox, chrome) webpages loads painfully slowly on vista same connection, same machine is loading is faster. I did not notice this in OS11.1 on same machine.I tried disable IPv6 in boot and in firefox but it did not improve situation significantly. I still get long looking up of dns time after time.Am I "paranoid" or is there some way I can address this this slow loading issue?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm very new to Linux, and I have ran a Windows XP server before, with a Apache2 Server software for Windows. and didn't have any problems with it, but I really want to set this server up with Linux.
The server is running, but the only thing that comes up in the browser, is the html pages, the pages call all the images from a folder /images/ but for some reason I can't get it to pull the folder up. None of the graphics show on any of the pages.
I also have a VirtualHost setup, and have another website set up in the DocumentRoot with the 2nd site, but it won't come up ether, even tho it is listed as the 2nd VirtualHost, and have that folder set up as the DocumentRoot.
I'm just using IP Addresses for now till I get this all sorted out.So if I enter the IP the main page comes up, just no graphics. if I enter the IP Address/2ndSiteFolder/ I get a directory listing with the 2nd site folder listed, so now if I click on the 2ndSiteFolderName, it comes up as IP/2ndSiteFolder/2ndSiteFolder/ Now the 2nd site comes up, and so does all the Graphics for that site, even if I go to some of the other subfolders site. So its just weird. I don't know what I need to do to get this to work right.
I know it has to do with setting up the folders for VirtualHost, I just don't know what it is. I have been working on this for a week, and I'm not getting anywhere..
I have tried liveCD, but open suse is running so slowly. Will it be faster when I install it?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have 2 laptops connected by a lan cable - from 1 laptop network card to the other. the first laptop is an Asus eeePc that runs a modified version of debian. this one is connected to the internet and i simply want the other one to connect to the internet via the lan cable. the "server" has 2 connections: 1. one for connecting to the internet via a dialup mobile connection (i checked and this connection is shared) 2. the 2nd connection: "Local Area Connection" defined this way:
IP address: 192.168.0.4
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
+ it is also marked as 'shared'
that's all, no Gateway/DNS/Wins defined
[code]...
my problem is that the client (192.168.0.3) cannot open web pages even if it sees just fine the server's files.
In SLES 11 a freshly installed system when I try to get the man pages I get a weird error. /usr/bin/nroff: Can't create temp directory, exiting...
I know this error is just confusing because mktemp work just fine.
I read around by googling but I can only find people relating the problem without any solution.
I found this post which is cute, but I dont want to set my LD_LIBRARY_PATH has it is just a bad patch to solving the real issue.

I have an intel xeon (2.4ghz quad core) in there, with 2gb of RAM. 2gb isn't much, but the computer runs slowly even when the MC server itself is off.
I'm talking super super slow, like, the cursor doesn't even show up all the time. It disappears frequently and things take a while to render/open, a site like facebook takes about 20 seconds to completely load.
This is my first ubuntu install, so I'm kind of new to it. The only problem/solution I could think is that I may have installed the 32bit version on a 64bit processor. I don't think I did, butttt that's the only thing that occurs to me
After GRUB 2 comes up (I'm running Ubuntu 10.10) and I choose the OS to boot, there is about a 5 second delay where nothing appears to happen after I make the selection -- no disk activity. It happens consistently every time I boot. Again, this is after I choose the OS to boot, so it shouldn't have anything to do with the standard delay to allow me to choose the appropriate OS.Is there a good way to troubleshoot this and determine what is causing the delay?

Then I opened resolv.conf ,but there were 2 resolv.conf in my /etc,one contains "search lan nameserver 192.168.199.1",one contains "nameserver 8.8.8.8 nameserver 8.8.4.4".
I changed the content of the first one to 8.8.8.8 and restart networking, but I still could not open pages with wireless network.
And I open the first one again, and it changed back to 192.168.199.1,and an extra line "domain lan"above the line"search lan".
I'm playing a game using wine that uses an internet browser style menu. One of the options that the game offers is to open the current game page with your external browser. I've used it hundreds of times when I was on windows and it worked fine and I was able to save the current page to a folder. Now that I'm using fedora the link doesnt work. It doesnt open firefox and it doesnt give me any message to let me know that it even recieved the request.

The sudoers file is fine, in the log's nothing unusual, since other PC take long to enter samba.
Recently i had migrated from windows 7 to fedora 15. i have lot of flipbooks with me and unable to open those flipbooks in fedora. finding a suitable solution to open those flipbooks. is there a software to open these books linux. in windows there is no requirement for special softwares to open flipbook, since it is similar to flv or swf files. i had already tried with wine. with wine the file is opened but do not displays the contents or pages, show a blank white screen. @people who dont know about flipbooks: flipbooks are flash objects usually created from pdf files used for reading, flipbooks simulate the reallife book actions(page turning).

I used to run lighttpd with php in my server until now and all was fine. But yesterday I changed my website which needs apache to run. So installed apache using yum install httpd command.
Then I added the virtual host name of my domain in webmin panel but when i try to run my php script in browser then its not opening php pages.
Instead it downloads php files like index.php when i open in browser. So I guess apache is not able to compile and run php pages. Only html pages are opening right now..
when i input man <cmd>.....it's saying formatting pages....n then it is displaying blank page.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using centos 5 for squid. I have enabled delay pools in it. The scenario is I have two clients machines have IP address 192.168.1.200 (The Manager) and 192.168.1.201 (Manager Assistant). The issue is I assign 512kbps to the Manager IP address and 128 to his assistant. When either of them download it start from 60 KB/Sec they finally get 11 KB/Sec which is wrong. If I disable the assistant delay pools settings then the Manager get 60KB/Sec continuously. By enabling both squid does not show any error.
Following is my line of code taken from squid.conf
Code:

acl our_128kbps src "/usr/local/squid/etc/our_128kbps"

View 0 Replies View RelatedSendmail on the RHEL server is set up to forward email to company internal mail server (via SMART_HOST). This has worked fine for years.
From the server, doing a sendmail dave@company.com, the message is sent immediately. No problems - and no change here.
From the server, doing a sendmail roberto@compania.com (compania is the part of the company in Mexico) causes a 2m40s delay before sendmail does anything.
No packets are sent until after 2m40s wait. Message is always sent after the delay. It is not clear what the server is waiting for.
For *each* user in the @compania domain specified in sendmail command, an additional 2:40 is imposed before email is sent. Email is always sent after the n*2:40 sec delay.
Sending email to some_name@AnUnusedDomainNameThatDoesntExist.com is processed immediately - with a bounce email received in a couple of seconds.
Q: How do I determine where this 2m 40s delay is introduced?
Time synchronization with ntp 3 mins delay from client and server

I rented a server to run CS 1.6 game servers. I had someone install Apache and configure my server to be able to use control panel for my game servers( i am running 4 gservers and have 5 ips = 1 ip is free). When i type my primary ip in the web browser it displays the Apache test page.
My question is can i add pages to the Apache without messing up anything with the control panel or my game servers. I am familiar with html. My primary ip is used for 1 of th egame servers but i can change that if necessary. And if possible to add pages how to add a site name, sth like [url] instead of entering the primary ip to display the content.
My first post here. I've been using Ubuntu Server edition (Hardy) happily for some time now. I use sudo regularly during configuration of new services. It always works/authorises within seconds, however, it recently became very slow, to the point of being nearly unusable. It turns out that ANY authentication request stalls in this way - in in a plain shell, X or Gnome, via VNC (and even FTP seems affected). In /var/log/auth.log I noticed a regular working pattern like this:
[Code].....
Unfortunately now, these records look the same, but the timestamps are much wider apart (minutes). The problem occured after running synaptic and dpkg-reconfigure obm-conf. I was trying to remove 'OBM' [URL] completely as I'd messed up (just OBM) while trying to fix a minor-looking misconfiguration.
I've carefully analysed which files were altered (modified) during my changes (as the problem survives a reboot), but there are no likely-looking candidates in the list (I deleted some blank lock files). I also did a wireshark capture during an authentication session and noticed that it doesn't appear to be looking off the server for information (I had likewise-open installed, but the problem exists whether that is running or not). Research in the forums hinted that this might just be as simple as a bad /etc/hosts file - but /etc/hosts has not been modified. I may have a flawed DNS, but I get fast enough responses to nslookup and can access Internet etc.
I have configured a normal squid & now I want to manage internet bandwidth thru. "squid" proxy only.
Squid proxy server ip is :- 192.168.17.30
Client PC ip addres is 192.168.17.25
Total bandwidth avaialable :- 2 Mbps
Now, I want to limit bandwith of 400 kbps for the ip address 192.168.17.25 pc only. So, is there any method available for bandwidth limiting for a single pc?
