Server :: How To Postpone / Delay Postfix Message Processing
Mar 14, 2011
I would like to ask whether there is a way to postpone or delay message processing on postfix mail server. E.g. to postpone message transfer/relay for 5 minutes to be able to dequeue mis-targeted emails.I couldn't find anything because these keywords mislead to performance problems.
I upgraded from Slackware 64 13.1 to Slackware 64 13.37 a week or so ago. I am now having a perceptible delay of a few seconds when launching commands from the command line, say for example: screen -R.
I have been trying to increase the message_size_limit on my Debian 2.4.26 box with postfix 2.3.8. For example, I set message_size_limit and mailbox_size_limit to 104857600 (100m) and restart postfix. Running postconf -n confirms that it has changed. However when I send a test message it kicks it back saying the message size limit is 16777216 (16m, which is, incidentally, the default value of the berkeley_db_create_buffer_size parameter)
I have postfix installed for a while now. It seems as though my server is sending out spam to other people which is really bad...I got emails like this one:
Code: Delivered-To: email@provider.com Received: by 10.223.107.17 with SMTP id z17cs2705fao;
I have a mail server taking care of mail for my 4 domains; the first is used for virtually all mail, the second rarely used anymore, the third is virtually 100% spam the past year(?), and the fourth isn't in use (and never has been, so no spam). What I'd like to do is to reject all mail to the third domain. Right now this is what I get (I tried to send to a nonexistent address from gmail):
[code]....
Since my username (xyz@) is the same for all domains, I could (or so I hope) change the reject message to give a hint to replace [URL] with [URL] and try again.
i have a website, there is a button that u click fill out a form and sends u a link to download a trial version of our software, the message gets sent with out html.. i copied a sample below (edited out some personal info)
I am just started using Ubuntu yesterday and I have been trying to install a program (Vim). I was following a tutorial and got to the following step:
- sudo dpkg -i vim73_20101114-1_amd64.deb
When run this command... I get the following message: Processing triggers for man-db ... Nothing happens after this and the regular terminal command line appears once again.
I have a mail server i need it to send message via port 587 not port 25, i make some changes to my postfix server which i use and it is already successed making a telnet to 587 port like it :
is there any HOWTO for configuring Webmin Postfix server with multiple postfix virtual hosts? Seems to be a tough challenge to set it up without any easy manual..
so i set out to change the default smtp port the server uses because my ISP blocks port 25 and i need the email to work in outlook. this morning i could receive email, but not send it. so i did some research and thought that i needed to edit the master.cf file in /etc/postfix/ by commenting out this line: smtp inet n - n - - smtpd -oand replace it with587 inet n - n - - smtpd (587 being the port i want to use)somewhere along the lines postfix server stopped running and now i cannot get it to start.if i try using SSH it crashes immediately and if i restart it in simple control panel nothing happens
I recently moved over user from an old box running postfix(v 2.0.16) over to rhel 6 running postfix (v mail_version = 2.6.6). ive tried to make sure all the files are of correct permissions and that the main.cf file is configured corectly. However there is something wrong as when i run postfix: service postfix server i get no error but when checking the status:service postfix status i get: master dead but pid file exists Looking into /var/log/mailog i find this line being the issue:
I'm trying to get messages sent to an alias to invoke a ruby script.Looking at the postfix log the message is being delivered, but I believe the script isn't being run with sufficient permissions.Quote:
Jun 3 18:31:21 hostname postfix/local[12968]: 340B911A3B4: to=<email@domain.com>, relay=local, delay=0.24, delays=0.2/0.01/0/0.03, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (delivered to command: /var/mailscripts/script)
After GRUB 2 comes up (I'm running Ubuntu 10.10) and I choose the OS to boot, there is about a 5 second delay where nothing appears to happen after I make the selection -- no disk activity. It happens consistently every time I boot. Again, this is after I choose the OS to boot, so it shouldn't have anything to do with the standard delay to allow me to choose the appropriate OS.Is there a good way to troubleshoot this and determine what is causing the delay?
New to Fedora (from Windows), I am up and running ok with packages from the repository but only half ok with Processing, the Java graphics programming front end from processing.org.Their download gave me a .tgz file which Package Manager extracted for me into a location of my choice and where there is now a "processing" shell script. This works ok and I have managed to create a launcher on the desktop. That starts ok but always with processing's default action of giving you a new and automatically named work file.In Windows an existing Processing file (.pde file) could be "opened-with" Processing. Trying to do similar in Fedora I find that I am expected to nominate an Application to open with but Processing has not installed as an application.I guess the question is how do I promote Processing to be an Application?Or is there a different approach?
I'm having trouble with my database server run with PHP & MYSQL; i just installed this system on a SUSE Linux Enterprise Sever; the Server its self is an HP Proliant ML370G with 4GB RAM The system was fine for like 3 weeks until recently when it started slowing down. Apparently, eveything is normal when you are accessing the server, for example when you are browsing on the database web interface; but problem is when you start working in the database, when you try submitting into the database, its really slow on processing, i have to first restart the mysql; Could it be RAM? or the SQL itself?
make install then i got this error: postfix: fatal: chdir(/usr/libexec/postfix): No such file or directory make: *** [install] Error 1 I don't understand why it's checking the usr/libexec folder for the daemons although I've set the folder to /opt/product/postfix-2.6.5/libexec in the makefile. Here is also the cat of my makedefs.out:
Mails are not going out of the queue. Removed all frozen mails and tried to flush queue using exim -qf command. Also checked queue after restarting exim. Still messages are not going out of the queue.
I am currently deploying Nagios as my NMS on CentOS 5 and using pn4nagios to create graphs.I have successfully configured Nagios-3.3.3 along with nagios-plugins-1.4.15. its working fine and showing my windows machine and linux machine. But here is the problem, when I try to configure pnp4nagios-0.6.11 I am unable to restart nagios service as it gives me error in commands.cfgfile on line number 240.can sum1 tell me how to get rid of this error. i had encountered similar problem while using nagiosgrapher. kindly note that i have allowed perdata to be processed by setting its value to 1.
I want to use TightVNC on Linux to display a KDE desktop to VNC clients, do I have to have a super duper graphics card in my server, or is it down to the VNC client to process the graphics?
I need to set a delay between sending two mails (say 1 second). I have a shared server so delay for specific domain will be more usefull(aaa.com - 2 sec, bb.com 1 sec etc).
I am running the Linux server ( debian etch ) on a virtual machine since more than a year. About a week ago the mail server ( exim4 ) stopped working. I've started aptitude and made something i cannot remember exactly ( said o.k. to an action aptitude proposed me solving some inconsistencies, but aptitude itself crashed several time with "cannot fork" and "SIGSEGV" ) - since then apache2 does not handle the PHP pages, delivers the php source to the browser.
I've tried reinstalling PHP5, but no success so far
- php5 is installed, also the libapache2-mod-php5
- The php5 module is activeted ( the symbolic links stay in mods-enabled. If i remove / rename the /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so file, i get an error message when i restart apache2 - it seems me, the PHP5 module is loaded into apache2.
The apache2 configuration file 000-default contains my virtual hosts, among them for example:
When i try to load a page from this virtual host into my browser, i get the php source code (opened by a texteditor), and no log line is written, neither into error.log, nor into access.log As i said, the system worked correctly for monthes, it is not a new installation, but something went wrong in the last days.
A while back I was asking the forum for FTP server reco's, said what I needed and the response from all was only proftpd has post processing functionality.Basically we will have numerous users uploading data at a constant rate and after each successful upload, I would like to fire a script to do some work. The script is nearly done, so I am now looking to see how to do this. Not sure if it matters, but the server is running / allowing via MySQL not the local user's.
I have debian lenny, when I run an application is slow to load (example: iceweacel open and it takes, I can hold him iceweacel work normally), I tried to change from gnome to another and the same thing, went down some services (samba, squid) and nothing. I open a terminal and it takes, I want to duplicate it and do it fast. From a terminal without X (tty1) with root run mc and moves quickly, also run as root "sudo mc" and takes to boot.Any action done with sudo it takes to run.Can not be what it takes to make starting the applications, not the PC because it is new, and from one moment to another I began to pass this
I am using centos 5 for squid. I have enabled delay pools in it. The scenario is I have two clients machines have IP address 192.168.1.200 (The Manager) and 192.168.1.201 (Manager Assistant). The issue is I assign 512kbps to the Manager IP address and 128 to his assistant. When either of them download it start from 60 KB/Sec they finally get 11 KB/Sec which is wrong. If I disable the assistant delay pools settings then the Manager get 60KB/Sec continuously. By enabling both squid does not show any error.
Following is my line of code taken from squid.conf Code: acl our_512kbps src "/usr/local/squid/etc/our_512kbps" acl our_128kbps src "/usr/local/squid/etc/our_128kbps" http_access allow our_512kbps http_access allow our_128kbps http_access deny all
How do you configure proftpd so that once a user has failed to login and reached the MaxLoginAttempts. That they can not retry logging in for another 4 hours ?
I'm trying to lower consumption of my server/HTPC. After wakeup from pm-suspend server/HTPC is ready to use in 1 or 2 seconds .For example if I suspend it while watching movie in KODI, after resume movie starts playing instantly. But some services (SSH and SAMBA) are not running. I thought it was network problem so I change configuration to static (not DHCP). SAMBA and SSH starts like 15 seconds after wakeup.
Sendmail on the RHEL server is set up to forward email to company internal mail server (via SMART_HOST). This has worked fine for years.
From the server, doing a sendmail dave@company.com, the message is sent immediately. No problems - and no change here.
From the server, doing a sendmail roberto@compania.com (compania is the part of the company in Mexico) causes a 2m40s delay before sendmail does anything.
No packets are sent until after 2m40s wait. Message is always sent after the delay. It is not clear what the server is waiting for.
For *each* user in the @compania domain specified in sendmail command, an additional 2:40 is imposed before email is sent. Email is always sent after the n*2:40 sec delay.
Sending email to some_name@AnUnusedDomainNameThatDoesntExist.com is processed immediately - with a bounce email received in a couple of seconds.
Q: How do I determine where this 2m 40s delay is introduced?
