View 14 RepliesNow I use mutt to manage the mail list.
But when I start to mutt, it takes a long time (about 1~2 minutes) to
load all the mail list, about 20 thousands mail.
I don't know why it takes such a long time.
I'm running a Minecraft server off of a dell T110 with Ubuntu 10.1 installed, as I haven't had a chance to install Natty yet. The problem is, it's running very very slowly, past the point where I could say it's the hardware's issue.
I have an intel xeon (2.4ghz quad core) in there, with 2gb of RAM. 2gb isn't much, but the computer runs slowly even when the MC server itself is off.
I'm talking super super slow, like, the cursor doesn't even show up all the time. It disappears frequently and things take a while to render/open, a site like facebook takes about 20 seconds to completely load.
This is my first ubuntu install, so I'm kind of new to it. The only problem/solution I could think is that I may have installed the 32bit version on a 64bit processor. I don't think I did, butttt that's the only thing that occurs to me
the web page will eventually open up or if i hit refresh 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686 bind version 9.7.3 i have disabled ipv6. using ie for browser.

Hi!
I've been frustrated with several problems I've been experiencing with Karmic Koala. The one I'll mention in this post is the fact that it randomly decides to adjust the system clock ahead 6 hours. I believe this began happening when I set the location for the system time that displays in the top panel. I'm guessing that the 6 hours is the fact that I'm in the US Central Time zone.
I have debian lenny, when I run an application is slow to load (example: iceweacel open and it takes, I can hold him iceweacel work normally), I tried to change from gnome to another and the same thing, went down some services (samba, squid) and nothing. I open a terminal and it takes, I want to duplicate it and do it fast. From a terminal without X (tty1) with root run mc and moves quickly, also run as root "sudo mc" and takes to boot.Any action done with sudo it takes to run.
Can not be what it takes to make starting the applications, not the PC because it is new, and from one moment to another I began to pass this
The sudoers file is fine, in the log's nothing unusual, since other PC take long to enter samba.
I am having a problem in Amarok. Recently I am using the following version of the software:
Code:Amarok Version 2.2.0 Using KDE 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2) The problem is that the seek bar is not working.Whenever I play an audio file the seek bar advances to show the progress. However, when i try to drive that seek bar manually with my mouse there is no effect. As i result I can't go to the desired position as I want.
After a period of time, the gnome nautilus responds very slowly and occupy high CPU and memory resource. when I open a folder, I have to wait for several seconds to see its response But there is no such problem under KDE environment.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Western Digital 1 TB external HDD. I had slackware 13 and it could copy data to it with speed around 30 MB/s (copy from machine to HDD) and it was cool. It's usb 2.0 as KInfoCenter says. But now in fedora 13, it's like 1 MB/s or even less (KInfoCenter still says usb 2.0). Any special mount option to set in fuseblk to speed it up? I mean something like blksize or like that?
Code:
/dev/sdc1 on /media/My Book type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,blksize=4096)
Is it me or is Fedora's Firefox slow? This is really noticable on my machine when viewing Myspace pages, especially ones with playlists. With pages like these, it scrolls really realy slowly. Also, it seems to load pages much slower than in Windows (something in Windows that is actually better than its Linux counterpart?!?!?)
Another problem that I've noticed is that when running Blender, it shows the title bar, but if I try to drop down a menu like File, or Render, It shows a white square, about the same size as the menu should be covering the GNOME panel, and it looks like the Blender panel that the File, Render, etc, menus are on covers the GNOME Panel, but if I move my cursor over icons or click on GNOME menus, it replaces that section of the Blender panel with the menu or whatever I clicked on, kind of like a hallucination, if that makes any sense.
how to synchronize time in NFS client with its NFS server. I am using Fedora.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Dovecot installed that constantly "commits suicide" due toe constant time changes on my server. But I don't have any NTPD or anything running.. If I do a Code: watch date it updates the screen every 2 seconds, and you can clearly see the time flip back a few seconds, and then go back to the correct time.. Sometimes it goes back a few minutes, and back to normal..
I literally did this 10 seconds ago..

I have several file servers in our offices and I am relatively new to Ubuntu / Linux. I get notices that there are updates for the server software from time to time. Is it typical to update everything when available or should I follow "If it ain't broke, don't fix it..." mentality?I would hate for everything to be working fine and then have an update throw me a curve.

I have made changes to the /etc/ntp.conf file of both the server and client . But still on rebooting is shows Synchronizing with time server failed. I am attaching the ntp.conf file of both server and client.

The VM software in use is Xen, as supplied with the OS.The host machine's time and date is fine, however both Virtual Servers are running ahead of real time consitantly.Running /etc/init.d/ntpd restart will resolve the issue however one of these is running MailScanner and when the time suddenly goes backwards, sometimes by as much as an hour, it stops working properly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a set of machines on a disconnected network. Periodically, one of the machines connects to the internet and synchronizes its time with a time server that is not known until the connection is established. (The machine queries a central command server for the address of the time server it should synchronize to.)
I then use a custom tool to do some calculations to call adjtimex() and adjust the clock so that it runs fairly accurately.
I know ntpd is supposed to be able to handle disconnected networks but I thought you had to preconfigure the servers in the configuration file.
My intent is to run ntpd on this machine (without configured "server"s) so that it can serve time to the internal network. (Periodic synchronization using ntpdate from the internal machine to the bridge machine.)
The problem: ntpd wants to fuss with the values I set using adjtimex(). I want it to quit thinking it needs to adjust the clock and just serve time to the internal network. (Maybe I have a GPS time source hooked directly to the machine!)

View 4 Replies View RelatedI messed up the first installation of Fedora on my server. My setup is as follows: Fedora and Gnome - NFS system, No dual boot (Windows or anything) Fedora ISO DVD downloaded No kickstart or other tools. how to set this up, from the time I insert the disk and have it boot up (configged already to boot from it). I know how to wipe it clean at intall time. Is that the root directory? And, is /boot the actual boot directory? I'm just having a hard time uderstanding that. As I said, I just want a quick itemized list, step 1, step 2, etc, from partitioning, creating file system, mounting, etc. in the right order.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got fedora 11 set up to use network time protocol to sync my laptop's date & time when I'm on-line. The question is simple really, I've added a local universality's time server (what is public) and it's live. but it's added to the end of the default time servers what come with fedora. How do I get fedora to just use the local time server, is it a case of removing the default time servers for fedora, but there is a box what says advanced options which are. sync system clock before starting service ???? & use Local time source (( is that the same as the local ntp server that I've got set up ))Hope some body can help me with the network time protocol part of Date/Time settings.

In a little over my head here but eager to learn. Running Fedora 10 on an IBM T41. Trying to set up a local server so that I can run PHP and test webpages locally (I'm a client-side web designer). Went through the SendDerek tutorial and everything went great until I tried to check the port with canyouseeme.org. I get "Connection timed out" every time.
- The httpd service is started via the terminal.
- Port 80 is unblocked via "Firewall Configuration."
- I set up port forwarding on my router.
What am I missing? I just want to be able to have the local computer run my PHP scripts instead of having to upload them to a remote server every time I make a change.

trying to connect to a NXserver across internet, it won't connect.I'm getting to this point at "time out"
203 NXSSH running with pid:2163
285 Enabling skip of SSH config files
285 Enabling check 0n switch command
285 Setting the preferred NX options
If I do a "ssh tom@76.254.20.238" I can connect to Server and tom /home. In ~/.nx the only two directories there is Config and Temp and in Temp there is three files , numbered 3112 6900 6903.
6900, 6903 can be read by user
3112 can only be read by 'ROOT'

I'm running Vim 7.0 on Debian Etch. The system is between 2-3 years old. Over the past week or so, when I open vim, the document opens very slowly -- on the order of 6-7 seconds... I ran 'time vim', then exited the document as quickly as I could (I figure it probably took less than a second to type ':x<enter>')How do I figure out what changed to cause this problem? It's not outside the realm of possibility that I installed something on the system that caused this, although I never noticed a correspondence between installation and the slowdown in vim. I'm not even exactly sure what I've installed over the last week.
