View 6 RepliesUsing the Mandriva 2010.2 distro. While using RkHunter I have inadvertently deleted the following 2 files from #/etc/ssh/these are the #ssh_config and #sshd_config files.Have tried to re-install RkHunter to see if I can get
those files back, unfortunately to no avail.Could anyone tell me the correct procedure to re-install
I have problem with the config file for clients which is ssh_config or ~/.ssh/config
every config that i write in them not working fore example when I change the escape character to ! its not working or any other config I checked with another system that has the same OS ((debian 6)) but the problem was there too
Do I missing something here that cause this? like enabling client configuration ?
I wanted to add a user to have permission to login to our webserver. Foolishly I did not back this file up. The only thing I changed was the last part of the file which was:
# override default of no subsystems
AllowUsers chris acosentino
Subsystem sftp /usr/libexec/openssh/sftp-server
to
# override default of no subsystems
AllowUsers acosentino techmaster
Subsystem sftp /usr/libexec/openssh/sftp-server
Now I'm still connected with that terminal, but any other attempt to get into the webserver from either a new terminal or from winscp results in:ssh_exchange_identification:Connection closed by remote host.If I lose connection to this last terminal I guess I'll be screwed.
Im trying to control my works server from home (due to the snow) and need to edit part of my monte carlo code so need Xforwarding turned on, have tried to edit /ect/ssh/ssh_config to this effect but Im being told I do not have the permission to save the editted file... I am the only user on the computer and this is a pretty much fresh copy of Ubuntu (using 9.04 instead of 9.10 due to networking issues on my laptop, didnt want to risk it on my desktop)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI would like to have a permanent ssh forwarding of the form ssh -f -N -L9112:localhost:9102 example.org
'man ssh' says that this can be specified in the /etc/ssh/ssh_config file. I tried this:
Code:
Host example.org
#LocalForward [bind_address:]port host:hostport
LocalForward 9112 example.org:9102
I did expect that with 'service sshd restart' the forwarding will be set up. But it does not. 'man ssh_config' doesn't give examples, so I am not sure what is wrong.
I've got 10.04 on a headless server on a home network. I've edited /etc/ssh ssh_config and changed line 39 from:
# Port 22
to:
Port 30000
I then
user@server$: sudo /etc/init.d/ssh reload
from the host
user@desktop$: ssh servername -p 30000
ssh: connect to host servername port 30000: Connection refused
What am I doing wrong? I've also tried completely restarting the computer.
Install openssh so that I can access my desktop (192.168.1.100) from my laptop (192.168.1.200) using konqueror with "fish".Googled and read that the sshd_config should be updated to enhance security.Tried fiddling with sshd_config on the desktop and hit a brick wall. Before setting ListenAddress 192.168.1.200 in sshd_config, the laptop can access the desktop with problem. However, after setting it, the laptop is not able to access the desktop.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI know how to set up sshd_config for shared key only access. Is it possible however, to set up shared key only access for specific users. Example Users ABCD I want them to only be able to login with shared keys Users EFGH I want them to be able to use a shared key, or if that key gets lost, corrupted or whatever, EFGH can still use a password, keyboard-interactive. How would I go about doing that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using ssh to connect to a Ubuntu machine from a Windows machine. I am only using key-based ssh logins and not using passwords. (I followed this tutorial: [URL] My question is in my sshd_config file, should I set UsePAM to Yes or No? Security-wise, does it make a difference one way or the other, or can I just leave it set to "yes" (the default setting)?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat is going on here? I can't access /etc/sshd_config to read or edit it, even as root. (Using debian-live 6.01)
root@debian:/etc# ls -l /etc/ssh*
total 132
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 125749 2010-02-28 01:37 moduli
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1616 2010-02-28 01:37 ssh_config
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2453 2010-03-13 17:32 sshd_config
[Code]...
I also checked the permissions for the parent file /etc, and root has rwx. Is this something peculiar to the overlay file system used in debian-live, or just another unix gotcha?

View 6 Replies View RelatedCan anyone explain the difference between IOWAIT%/IDLE%/LOAD AVG? We have a 3 servers (oracle rac) attached to a SAN. When we added another CPU to our 3rd server, the IOWAIT across the oracle rac dropped a lot. We used to get pretty high IOWAIT % before. So I don't really understand how the extra CPU could do this. I thought the IOWAIT % is high because the server is waiting for the SAN, so I thought the SAN was the bottleneck. So I don't really understand the difference between the 3 things (iowait, idle and load avg).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Centos 5.5 server and I had a problem with its time because it was 1 one hour ahead of my local time. I installed and activated NTP and I created a link for /etc/localtime:
Code:
ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/America/Mexico_City /etc/localtime
I reboot the server and waited for 1 hour but the time wasnt correct. The server's BIOS clock has UTC time so I edited /etc/sysconfig/clock file replacing:
Code:
UTC=false for
UTC=true
I reboot the server and waited for 1 hour but the time wasnt correct. After breaking my head for about 1 hour, I realized that there is a directory /usr/share/zoneinfo/Mexico and changed my link for /etc/localtime
Code:
ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/Mexico/General /etc/localtime
And It worked. What is the difference between America/Mexico_City and Mexico/General files in /usr/share/timezones, they should be identical but of course they are not?
