Server :: Sendmail For Inbound Mail And Redirecting Them Internally To Other Port?
Mar 22, 2011
I have configured a sendmail MTA for incoming mails in a network and by using IPtables i have redirected the traffic internally to other port where one more SMTP by a application is running.Iptables rule:
iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 25 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A PREROUTING -t nat -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 25 -j REDIRECT --to-port 25000
My sendmail config is as below.
Sendmail.mc
define(`SMART_HOST', `relay:host.subdomain.mydomain.com')dnl
dnl # define(`RELAY_MAILER',`esmtp')dnl

When I run 'sendmail -bv', it sends the mail delivery status report as a mail to the root. Is there a way I can redirect this to the console instead of sending as a mail. requirement is to programatically find the mail host of the recipient for which I thought of using this 'sendmail -bv' command. Is there any other better way to find mail host of the recipient

i've got a software that uses a specific tcp port e.g 11111. i want to redirect all the traffic from 11111 to squid port 3128. i'm using the following commands to redirecting:
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp -m tcp -i eth0 --dport 11111 -j DNAT --to 192.168.0.1:3128
iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -m tcp -i eth0 --dport 11111 -j ACCEPT
my ubuntu server has two interfaces. eth0 is for local network (dhcp assigns ips) and eth1 is for internet. my ubuntu server acts as a gateway and as an authentication server for users.
at squid also i have the following configuration regarding my port:
acl myport port 11111 http_access allow CONNECT myport. my squid installation is not transparent as users need to authenticate in order to access the web.
my application is a windows application and of course is not working. i examined the packets with wireshark and i noticed that when the program tries to access the internet, squid replies with err_invalid_request (the packet contains that data). the program is trying to send some plain text via port 11111 and as far as i can image, somehow squid declines the data. i cant get rid off squid as i want to pass the traffic from squid. what is the problem?

After searching the forum I could not find a clear answer to my question so I am giving it a try...
I have installed a LAMP server with Postfix as mail server. The scripts send email as user www-data using the mail server on the same machine.
However, the email got rejected by external mail servers (failed reverse DNS check) so I setup a mail server that meets all needed requirements.
Now I would like to use this second server instead of the mail server on the LAMP server. I found that this could be done with changing sendmail settings in php.ini (I think).
However I am not sure how that will go: www-data is no actual user on the new email server (which requires authentication before sending). Do I need to create a new user on the email server or change the settings in php.ini to match an existing user?

I have installed Centos 5.4 with Sendmail 8.13.8, i have modified sendmail.mc file and compiled to sendmail.cf with following lines
1. TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`EXTERNAL DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN')
2. Define define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS', `EXTERNAL GSSAPI DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN')dnl
3. DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp, Name=MTA')dnl
My problem is that when i try to open port 25 with telenet it takes lot of time like more than 1 minute to open session and another 30 - 40 seconds to respond to "ehlo" command.
Also when i try to open telnet session on port 25 in another server it hardly takes 1-2 seconds open session.

We have moved from a Windows based SMTP server to Sendmail on Cent 5.5. We have a special application that was written to look at the "BadMail" folder on the Windows box. I am told by my developers that it is capable of monitor remote locations and they just need to know the format or extension of the badmail files.
My question is what is the default location of the badmail folder in Sendmail? This is a default install from CentOS.

So I'm having troubles setting up a mail server. First of all, anyone want to try to telnet into <snip> on port 25 and see if it's blocked? I don't think it is, but you never know. How long does it usually take for MX records to get around? I've had this set up for about a day now and still don't see any MX records on any lookup site I go to. I'm currently using slackware 12.2's default sendmail configuration. Should I change anything? I started sendmail on my laptop and got emails going within the LAN but I cannot send emails over WAN (i.e. to/from yahoo or google accounts).e?

I'm currently running Ubuntu 10.10 Server using VirtualBox 3.2.12 r68302. I've setup a LAMP Server and Installed Redmine and I'm going to be starting some projects. The problem I have is that I've linked it to a subdomain thru my hosting, so things are a little more complex for me then usual. Here's the software I've added for this setup:
Ruby version 1.8.7 (i686-linux)
RubyGems version 1.3.7
Rack version 1.1

how mail server functionality works as well as how to properly set the host of the virtual pc.

Sendmail isn't sending mail for some reason and keeping it in the Queue. I attemped to flush them but it deferres the connection to the server in which it is trying to relay the message to. I have checked to see if there is a DNS error or anything like that. I attemped to flush the messages through webmin.
This is the result.
Code:
I am not finding anything in the logs to let me know their is an error. I can ping the mail servers that it is trying to send to. Now it has started delaying when ping MX servers. So I knew something was starting to mess with it. I have checked the /etc/hosts. It is correct. The server isn't black listed. Mail to root just gives me.

I'm simply trying to make a little restriction on www packets under two rules:
1. Allow inbound/outbound www packets (works!)
2. DROP inbound traffic to port 80 from source ports less than 1024. (DOES NOT WORK!)
Now, technically, when i use hping to test my rules, hping3 192.168.100.100 -S -p80 -s 1023 I should NOT receive any packets. However, i still receive packets, which means my rule that says less than 1024 does not work. (see below)
And this is my iptables rules in shell-script so far:
#!/bin/sh
DEFAULT_NIC=eth0
SERVER_IP="192.168.100.100"
ALLOWED_WWW_PORT=80
IPT="/sbin/iptables"
