I am thinking of installing a Linux mail server and use it for my company. We are about 3 people that using emails and i do not want do spend a significant amount to get an exchange server. However, i need a mail server that i will be able to get the functionality that exchange server provides such as emails (to my mobile, web access, and using outlook client), calendar, tasks and contacts. Can you reccomend me which Linux mail server should i use for all the above functionality?
I am using FEDORA 11 and Squid 3. Squid configured and working perfectly but some Win XP users unable to access their mails through outlook express. can anybody guide me what should i do to enable pop/smtp ports via through nating / MASQUERADE etc..
I use Windows XP with Outlook 2003 (soon to be Outlook 2010) on my work laptop, and also the same on my home PC. I copy the .PST file containing my home emails between the two so I still have access to my home emails on my work laptop when I'm away on business. So, why am I mentioning this on a non-Windows forum?
Well, I'm migrating my home PC to Ubuntu, but I still want to be able to move the mail PST file to & from the work laptop, but I don't know of any Ubuntu mail clients that will work directly on the PST file. Those that I have looked at will import from the PST file but maintain emails in their own file format, which means I can't read the new ones again using Outlook if I have updated the mail folders with the mail client on Ubuntu.
So, does anyone know of and can recommend any mail clients that work with PST files directly? The analogy is like using Open office to read & write MS Word .doc & Excel .xls files directly without any importing or exporting. I should also mention that I've tried unsuccessfully to install Outlook using Wine, but it's not happening, same problems as described in the Wine appdb test results.
i have problem in sending emails using outlook on my client machines i.e XP i am getting the error Relay access denied. i am using fedora 9 as our server. with dovecot and postfix and fetchmail.it was working fine previously .
Is there any Linux software that fetches emails from let's say 3-d party imap server (ex imap.gmail.com) and allows you to access it in nice format through web interface.
So - if I run my own LAMP server I could just type in my ip address and access emails/calendars.
I guess something like Outlook Web Access but free and for Linux?
I have a Nis server on Suse 11 which is configured using Yast and nis clients on Suse and CentOs .All clients which is on the Suse Os is working fine. My desktop is running 'buntu 9.10 and I have recently aquired a couple of half decent servers running Windows server 2003. I have a few windows app's that I use regularly for work that I have had limited success in running with wine or in vm's. I stumbled upon a how to to call apps in a vm to run seamlessly on the host desktop and did some playing and have succeeded in calling app's on my servers from my 'buntu desktop, the command I have set in my launcher for one of them (DIALux)
My question is, can I change the default application/file association in 'buntu with a custom command so I can double click on a file and have it open in one of these remote app's??If I can, what is the correct custom command to be using as using the above doesn't work at all, it just tries to open the file with rdesktop not the remote app.
I have a CentOS + Samba server and Windows XP client machines. Users, passwords and permissions are entered on the server machine.users and passwords ( same as on the server ) are entered in the XP client machine. When attempting to access a public file on the server using a XP client machine and the IP address of my server, I am asked a user name and password and none of the already entered seem to work. I cannot access the server file (prompted again and again to enter user name and password). What did i miss
I have a wireless router situated in another room. I am able to access this router (and consequently the internet) through a Windows laptop that has a wireless card in it. However, my other laptop that has Ubuntu 10.10 installed on it, doesn't seem to have a wireless card in it, and I have confirmed this by running the commands
Code: lspci and Code: iwlist scan
I briefly was able to share a folder in my Windows machine, and access it through my Ubuntu machine, after connecting both laptops with a cross-over cable. However, I can't even ping the Windows machine from my Ubuntu machine anymore, after trying to configure the IP addresses. I think I screwed it up.
Also, although this is not an Ubuntu issue, I have a weird Windows problem, where I can't access the Internet when both wireless and wired ethernet controllers are active at the same time. It would be a bonus if you could solve this problem too for me. I was surfing online for a solution to this problem for quite some time, but I was unable to comprehensively understand and implement what I browsed through. Also, some of the guides, like for example, that on configuring Samba, seem to be outdated, as the terminal tells me something like the package (that was required to be installed by the guides through sudo apt-get install) has been superceded. Hence I post here for clear, concise and easy-to-understand help from you gurus. It would be great if I could achieve the end result of being able to access the internet on my Ubuntu machine (through the Windows one).
I'm trying to setup a linux box to act as just a DNS server. Its something I'd like to use just for WAN type requests and leave other domain related things to the Server running WIndows. At this point on my Linux box, I can run queries and nslookups from it. I can not however, from a Windows box, run a NSLOOKUP command from the Linux box which is telling me to check the permissions from Linux to enable that for the clients. It's enabled. From a C: I type in nslookup - *ip of Linux box* and it tells me -- Can't find server name for address.
I have NIS and NFS Server in Linux EL5 and i want to make client as windows..How to make windows as client for Linux server..Can any one explain me more detail.
I have a very nice SUSE 11.2 Samba PDC that runs well with Windows XP clients. I am using NETBIOS for name resolution since I dont want to put in a DNS server because my router already has one, Im pretty sure it would make things more complicated. I enabled wins support in smb.conf and made the name resolve order with lmhosts first. lmhosts lists all the ip adresses with their computer names in capitals. I hope thats right. I set up my windows 7 with the reg file from the samba wiki on windows 7 [URL].
That's great now I get the old screen from XP in windows 7 when joining the domain. I gave the machine netbios name MAINPC a smb trust account MAINPC and added the unix user MAINPC$ that should all work. I manage to successfully join it says welcome to domain, afterwards an error appears "changing the dns name of this computer to "" failed" and something bout not finding the domain controller. although I joined. then I resatart and when I try to log on it says "trust relationship failed". How to make it join and logon properly.
I have set up my Openvpn Server in Centos and it is working fine. Windows XP clients are able to connect the OpenVPN Server and access the network. This is a customized OpenVPN Gui Client. Now I need the customized OpenVPN Client for MS Windows 7Bit. I am using openvpn-2.1.4-install OpenVPN Client in MS Windows 7 64Bit. This is a executable and working fine in the said architecture. Now I want to compile this version. I am following the given steps at : [URL].. As per the direction i have copied the source from 2.1.4 and tried to compile, but compiled copy is giving the error " An error occurred Installing the TAP-Win32 Device Driver". I have tried this compilation by making every change and hack but all in vain.
I think that there are some certain steps which are missing and not documented any where. And sure that someone in forum will know the facts.
I have configured samba in linux .i can share file from windows client. we are not using any domain or ldap. using workgroup only. kindly let me know is it possible to change the smbpassword from client.
I have been messing around with freenx to see if I can support my customer via remote desktop... I have installed the server on Ubuntu Karmic and the client on Windows 7. I love linux but need the windows computer for customer work and that is why I chose to install the client on windows. I setup the server the best I could and created custom keys which I then copied to windows and imported them to the freenx client. I am looking for security for my customer and that is why I chose custom keys... There are several issues to deal with but I want to just get started to see where it takes me. I added the test server computers ip address to the freenx client configuration and tried to connect to Ubuntu... I have left the port as 22 at the moment
Desktop setting on the client...I chose vnc which seems to be a good choice according to all the material I have been reading....Other settings I have left alone at the moment to see how things work.... All that said - I have the login window asking for information... I have the password asking for information....and I have the session wanting information....? Obviously I understand that login info can be set on the server and the password...but I haven't seen how to set up that? Of course I am testing the server from a client on my home network at the moment - but the customer has his own router as do I so those settings will need to be looked at as well.
