Server :: Moving LVM From Disk2 T O Disk1?

Apr 3, 2011

I have a server with 2 same size 320GB sata disks, and I wanted to have RAID-1.During installation procedure I was pretty much sure I set RAID-1 up, but it looks, it's definitely not a RAID.It looks it's definitely not a RAID, so I have to figure out how to make it.

|sda1.|.............sda2....................|sda3..||...........................sdb1................ ...........|
|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
|...................disk1................................||.......................disk2............. ..................|

[code]....

how to "move" LVM data from disk2 to disk1? I'd like to free disk2 up, because empty disk2 is a precondition in my proper and tested "RAID-1 how to" procedure. The used application isn't disk intensive, there's only 6GB used in '/'. I'm not sure that is relevant.

Ubuntu :: Moving Buttons To Left - Keep Moving Back

Mar 27, 2011

I like the buttons on the left. I'm running 10.04 & I know how to move them. The problem is that changing themes will move them back right. OK, if the new theme has them on the right that's OK. But going back to the other theme doesn't change them back. They don't seem to be controlled by the theme, or I'm just not doing it right.

General :: Cannot Log In After Moving Server?

May 6, 2010

We are really scratching our heads on this one.We moved 3 Dell PowerEdge servers with Fedora 12 x86_64 from one datacenter to another.2 of them are fine but the 3rd we cannot log into any more. The KDE login screen comes up,e user names are shown, but our passwords don't work.Going to the console, we cannot log in as root with the password either. Also, I set up shared keys for ssh between the 3 boxes so that I could ssh between machines without entering my password -- that doesn't work either. This one is one of the head scratchers since /home is on a different disk.I'm 1,600 miles away and the tech that went into the cage to try from the console does not know Linux. Dunno how he got picked...

What exactly would have been corrupted to cause this behavior -- unable to login locally AND ssh authorized_keys no longer works?Oh, and apparently they were initially able to get into the machine from the console after the move since they were able to configure the NICs. But now we can't.We know how we can get a root login on a reboot from GRUB, but we don't know what to look for as far as what might be wrong with the system once we're in

General :: Moving From Windows Server?

Nov 16, 2010

I am an experienced Windows Server user/admin (over 12 years). I have touched Linux here and there and know my way around the "GUI" portion of it; which is not to say much.

In Windows I am not just a GUI guy and have been using script and command line since the DOS days.

I want to learn Linux Server internals just as I do in Windows Server. Most of the books/guides I find are geared toward moving windows desktop user to Linux. Most linux books that I have come across are not for porting your knowledge from Windows servers to linux but instead they start to teach you linux from abc and then I lose interest because I know the basics.

what I should start so that I can pick the right distro for a server, configure it to be a solid server and deploy/manage it appropriately? I plan to use this knowledge at customer sites instead of just at home.

They can then use an FTP client to upload files. This all works well.

However, I would like to stop a user from going back up a level and traversing the tree. They can currently go back up to /home and see other users names.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Moving To Different Server - Won't Boot Past GRUB / Sort It?

Jun 11, 2010

I recently tried to clone a RHEL 4 system and migrate it to some different hardware (IBM Blade to an IBM x3650M2 rack mount). I'm getting an error when it tries to boot up. It gets past the grub part, but then errors out quickly with this error code...

I've done this before, but the other system I migrated didn't have a separate "/" and "/boot" partition. I think this may be why it's having an issue. It seems like "/boot" is actually /dev/sda1 and "/" is /dev/sda2 (from booting up RHEL rescue disk). I've tried changing fstab and grub.conf, but I think I may be missing something.

Server :: Moving Apache Directives From .htaccess To Httpd.conf In CPanel/WHM Environment

Mar 3, 2010

I've got a dedicated server using whm/cpanel and there is a particular domain being hosted which contains a very elaborate .htaccess file which is full of mod_rewrite rules, among other things. I've been asked to try and get the contents of this .htaccess file into the httpd.conf (or some appropriate include file) to improve performance.

I've been reading this page and it's really confusing me: [url]

In the file usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf I see that there are two VirtualHost sections that appear to be relevant for my domain (which I'll call mydomain.com). The first listens on port 80 and the second is on 443. Seems to me that my apache directives in .htaccess would belong in this section. In the first section I see this:

Code:

In the second section I see this:

Code:

The problem with both of these is that the directory /usr/local/apache/conf/userdata does not exist, much less the full path to either of those files.

Server :: After Moving PHP Files To /var/www They No Longer Are Seen As Hosted Php Files

Feb 25, 2010

I am setting up a Demo website that I am hosting in a Debian Lenny VM, I have installed Apache, mySQL, and PHP5 I know the php server is working because if I place an info php file I can see it in the browser. However, I downloaded phpfusion, as well as phpmyadmin and they are on my desktop, I open a superuser file browser (also added write access to /var/www to everybody and copied the files over as me) and copied over the files. Once in the www folder they are no longer seen as "valid" php files, if I try to access them with iceweasel, IE, Konquerer it asks me if I want to download the file. If I look at the files on my desktop they have different icons. I have attached a screenshot. I can't tell what the difference is, but obviously there is one otherwise the icons wouldn't be different. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here or a way to rectify it?

Ubuntu :: Moving OS From One HD To Another?

Jan 6, 2011

I want to move a 250GB IDE hard drive from a PC and repalce it with a smaller 40GB IDE HD. Currently the 250 GB drive is dual loaded with WinXP and Ubuntu desktop.

This PC is a kiosk style touch screen that I use as a home stereo and some other entertainment and household tasks. I have some hardware (touch screen, USB headset, wireless LAN card, sound card) that are proving to be problematic under Ubuntu. Currently this box is very usable under windows and I would like to just continue using the current build but with the new smaller HD.

I want to move that 250GB drive (along with several others) to a cluster and make a shared network space for file storage, music streaming, etc. but that's a project for another day.

Fedora :: Moving /usr To A New Partition

Jul 31, 2011

I'm running Fedora 14 as a KVM guest on a CentOS host. I decided to give preupgrade-cli a shot to get Fedora 15.

After reboot, I got a not enough free space error, so I decided to add another virtual drive and move /usr to it.

The partition on the new drive is ext4 formatted (just like my / partition)

Code:

Then I mounted the new partition on /newusr, and copied the files using cp and rsync

Code:

Code:

I also tried rsync without the HAX options, same results.

I then changed my /etc/fstab to reflect the new /usr

Code:

Then I reboot and watch the booting process, it fails first at loading NetworkManager, then elsewhere, and system stops. Of course I could revert back using a live CD and try all the other options, but nothing works for me.

There is an error in /var/log/boot.log, but I don't think it is related, as it shows when booting normally as well.

I have installed a number of other software on the 10.04 upgraded version like Eclipse, GATE (NLP software), BasKet Notes, Thunderbird etc. If I install the LTS version will I have to re-download and install all of these things? Or is it portable?

I use only Linux on my laptop and so the stability is very important.
