Server :: Dovecot Can't Access Maildir (log Error Posted)

Dec 27, 2010

I am having the following error on my logs.

[code]...

I used mail_uid and mail_gid in dovecot.conf to set the permissions, I'm not using local system accounts, instead accounts specified in MySQL. I can dump all the output of doveconf if requested.

Slackware :: 13.1 Sendmail-procmail MAILDIR For Dovecot Server?

Jan 3, 2011

Built an MTA/LDA Slackware Server and seperate MDA (Dovecot 2.2) Slackware Server. Used the slackwiki Sendmail TLS SMTP-AUTH guide for the MTA/LDA Server.

http://www.slackwiki.org/index.php?t...TH&redirect=no
The ../cf/cf/sendmail-slackware-tls-sasl.mc config file has Procmail sorting as:
FEATURE(`local_procmail',`',`procmail -t -Y -a $h -d $u')dnl

I don't understand the arguments ($), but know the -Y forces mbox. The /var/mail directory is hardlinked to where ever the spool directory is. I want the Dovecot MDA server to use NFS or UNFS to grab user's mail from the MTA/LDA Server. Problem is the hardlink. Can't nfs share a hardlinked directory.

Is there a way to change the MTA sendmail mc config file above to have LDA promail send to /home/mail, so I can nfs that directory? And preferably in MAILDIR format? BTW: I can't find any procmailrc config file on this Slackware Server. I should have all the settings in my /etc/mail/sendmail.cf config.

Server :: Error: Connection Dropped By IMAP With Dovecot

Apr 19, 2011

I am running SquirrelMail version 1.4.8-5.el5.centos.10 on a CentOS 5.6 64-bit distribution with MailScanner 4.83.4, Sendmail 8.13.8/8.13.8, and Dovecot 1.0.7 release. One user is having problems connecting via the SquirrelMail interface to his e-mail. Whenever he tries to connect, he gets the following error message:

Quote:

Error: Connection dropped by IMAP server with dovecot

I have tested another user account, and that user is able to connect without issue. I confirmed the presence of dovecot.index, dovecot.index.cache, and dovecot.index.log files in the user's <HOME DIR>/mail/.imap/INBOX folder. The /var/log/maillog files do not list any apparent error messages with SquirrelMail.

Server :: Dovecot IMAP And Subfolders - Mac's Mail Application And Thunderbird - Both Come Up With Error

Mar 18, 2010

I'm running Dovecot version dovecot-1.0.7 on CentOS 5.4. I'm trying to create subfolders and I can't. I've tried Mac's mail application and Thunderbird; they both come up with an error, basically saying that the server doesn't support level one folders(subfolders). Squirrelmail can't create subfolders neither. I did some reading and thought that perhaps the problem lies in the /etc/dovecot.conf file; specifically with the "mail_location" directive. I currently don't have that directive active which means Dovecot uses defaults settings: saving users' mail in the %u/mail folder. Is there any way to configure Dovecot to use subfolders?

Server :: Move To Maildir, Users Mail Owned By Root Now?

Jun 4, 2010

I recently made the migration from mbox to maildir.I use postfix, spamassassin, dovecot for imap and procmail for delivery.I made the changes for Maildir to postfix main.cf, dovecot's dovecot.conf and procmail's procmailrc. All good, working well.Just noticed though, that mail marked as spam and filtered by procmail to be put in the users ~/Maildir/.spam/new folder are owned by root. Not allowing the users to even see it (600 perms)

So postfix sends all mail to Procmail:
mailbox_command = procmail -a "$EXTENSION"
But not all mail is effected, only mail picked up by this receipe in the /etc/procmailrc:

Server :: Get Postfix To Deliver Valid Emails To Maildir And Relay Remaining?

Jan 20, 2010

I got a weird postfix setup question? This is a separate server to the one I posted about earlier today.

I need to setup a postfix server which will accept emails for local know address (full addresses) and deliver them straight to the users maildir.

Any unknown addresses (however for the same domain), needs to be relayed to another server.

This is a bit of a special setup as there is no fixed Internet connection to the server. So the plan is that local email get delivered straight away whilst emails to the same @domain, but that doesn't exist in the user tables get put in the hold queue and is later relayed to server number 2 when a connection is available.

I am using mysql to retrieve all my settings into postfix.

2. Connect and view the emails via IMAP using dovecot server logging in using "cody"

So far i have the fetchmail part working fine, but i cannot see any emails in the inbox. The messages are going thru however as they are visable in MUTT. i have edited my /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf to change the mail directories, but no luck

Software :: POP3 Access Through Dovecot With Outlook 2007

Aug 15, 2010

I have recently set up a mail system using Postfix, Dovecot, Spamassasin, ClamAV and atMail - I'm new at this, so proud of myself to have gotten this far. I have required secure authetication for both sending through SMTP and access via POP3 and IMAP. All seems to work properly. I have tested POP3 with KMail and Evolution and everything works great. The only problem is I cannot get Outlook 2007 to authenticate for POP3. I can send through SMTP with secure authentication from Outlook, but no matter what I try I cannot get it to authenticate for POP3 access. Checking SPA in Outlook causes it to repeatedly ask for credentials which it does not accept, while un-checking it causes the client to be immediately rejected by the server.

I have turned on all the various relevant client work-around options in Dovecot and Postfix (that I am aware of) and I have hunted through the web to see what I can find, but no luck.

Besides using the listed client work-arounds in the Dovecot config file, can anyone shed light on what else I might need to do to get Outlook 07 working with POP3?

Server :: Can't Get Postfix Mail Boxes From /var/mail To ~/Maildir?

May 31, 2010

I'm running a Debian LAMP server and I am adding postfix. The initial config is working and I can send and receive mail both locally and over the WAN. The problem is that I cannot get mail delivered to the user's home directory using Maildir/. I have set the:home_mailbox = Maildir/ parameter in main.cf but mail still goes to /var/mail after Postfix reload. The system is now using Maildir/ instead of mbox but in /var/mail. I really want to get mail into the user's home directory.

CentOS 5 Server :: Email Server Setup Using Sendmail And Dovecot?

Apr 24, 2009

I am trying to set up a mail server on centos5 using sendmail and dovecot, and eventually spamassassin and some antivirus filter as well. I'd also like to get the proper secure auth mechanism set up at some point too. But for starters, I've been having a lot of difficulty trying to even connect to the mail server from a client computer in the local network. I installed Eudora on the client and after some tweaking in dovecot I was able to connect to the mail server, but then when I try to send an email I get a "connection refused" error, with nothing being logged on the server that I can see.

The last time I set up a mail server was Fedora Core 2, so the configuration files have changed a bit to say the least, and I can't really refer back to those to set up this new server. Does anybody know of a good step-by-step doc on getting the mail server going? I've read the man pages and other various readme's, but these really only list out the available options with no really good explanation of what needs to be done to get the mail server going. If there isn't a full write-up on how to do this, I'll put something together when I'm finished so others can use it in the future.

Software :: Dovecot Dotlock Error - Locking Set To Fcntl?

Aug 16, 2010

We are currently running Dovecot 1.2 on a Centos 5.5 machine for a production workload of around 56,000 - 60,000 pop/imap logins per hour of the day (totaling a million something a day). The server has it's storage hosted on nfs. This server is usually humming along just fine until we get the following error in the mail syslog:

Created dotlock file's timestamp is different than current time (1281964699 vs 1281964649): /mail/user/Mai. ldir/dovecot-uidlist We see a couple of these errors and the server explodes with a load average of over 300, which drops back down immediately but definitely causes a small outage. The strangest part is that we are NOT using dotlock as a locking mechanism on this server. We are also not using dotlock as a locking mechanism for any of the servers that access this nfs storage, rather we use fcntl. There was a time when we tested dotlock on the servers in our mail cluster, but we are not sure why these errors are appearing now after running without dotlock for so long.

2- Is it good, bad or indifferent to put up hardware that is not currently avaible? I've got several older computers, and I'm more than happy to put them up. I'd assume that its encouraged to do so, but seeing how I was going to ask the other question I thought there is no harm in asking.

Server :: Postfix / Dovecot Help On New Setup

Mar 20, 2011

CentOS 5 box was just setup to replace a crashed old one. I have postfix.admin installed and working, added users (confirmed from mysql command line) and can login using telnet server pop3 with the user information. The problem I am left with is just receiving mail. I have both squirrelmail and roundcube installed, and can also authenticate using both (/var/log/maillog shows); From either webclient I can naturally send mail out and both yahoo and gmail client confirms, yet a reply shows nothing, and nothing ever shows in the maillog. Firewall is shut down but I don't know postfix enough to see how to test, or is something else grabbing the mail.

I can provide anything necessary, just let me know what. As I see it (just so far) Postfix should be the server that answers and receives the mail, dovecot is more the pop/imap the client would use, so I think it's a postfix issue. If so, can I turn up the debugging, etc. but again, I think all mail received should appear in the maillog file 1st as I see the outbound mail go fine!
