Ubuntu :: Linux Equivalent Of Paragon Partition Manager?

Mar 1, 2011

I am looking for a Linux equivalent of Paragon Partition Manager. I have several computers that I maintain for work, and the ability to take the image of these computers regularly would be greatly beneficial. I was previously using Paragon Partition Manager, however I would like to know if there is a equivalent of this software that I could use. I know that GParted works excellently in the actual partition management, however it does not actually allow to to capture images.

Ubuntu Security :: System Restore Available Out There In Which Is Equivalent Of RollbackRX?

May 15, 2010

I am new in Ubuntu. I wanted to know if there is a System Restore available out there in which is equivalent of RollbackRX [URL].. freeware or shareware.

RollbackRX used to backup/restore OS system changes.
It is able to backup/restore system in less than 1 minute.
It is able to backup with a little amount of disk size.
Feature Needed:
Pre-Boot Snapshot Backup

[Code]...

I currently used this application in my Windows XP system. And I am happy having it. I used to modify my XP a lot and sometimes forcing myself to restore my system (using rollbackrx) because It is unbootable/freezing/sudden restart. It does save me a lot of time, especially those critical moments. I am hopeful that there is available variant of this one for Ubuntu.

Ubuntu :: Linux Ignoring Windows NTFS Permissions & Security Settings?

Apr 26, 2010

I have NTFS-protected directories under Windows. However under Linux, even though I'm not logged in as a Super-User, Ubuntu cheerfully mounts all NTFS partitions on this machine and EVERY computer on my home network. This gives my GUESTS complete access to all machines connected to my network: Nautilus -> Windows Network -> Workgroup -> Clicking on any computer Name gives access to windows' administrative shares C$, D$, etc. I've always known that Linux ignores Windows security, but... what is the solution?

Fedora Security :: Terminal Equivalent Of "sudo" Is It Still Sudo/KDEsudo

May 29, 2010

I am new to fedora (been using debian based distro's for the longest time). With the new release I decided to give FC13 (The kde 64 bit spin) a try. I told it to wipe my entire hdd and encrypt the partitions. The partition manager made a few LVM partitions which I assume are encrypted.

The problem I am having is that if I attempt to use an application that would normally need root access to run, I am not prompted to enter my root password. Instead, I am required to logout and log back in as root. Is there a way to make it so that FC13 will prompt me to enter in my root password so I do not need to log in and out? Or is there something Different I should have done during the install process? Also, what is the terminal equivalent of "sudo" in fedora, or is it still sudo/KDEsudo

I also have not used SE Linux before. Do I need to manually enforce the permissions for my applications and generate my own profiles for it, or is that done automatically?

Ubuntu :: Equivalent To Mac OS X's Speech ?

Nov 14, 2010

I'm trying to migrate to Ubuntu from Mac OS X. I have set up a dual boot on my MacBook and I am currently working to get everything I need for my computing-life up and running in Ubuntu.

I have found almost everything, expect a speech synthesis similar to the one native to Mac OS X's.

I use the OS X speech synthesis to have text I have written read back to be, I'm not blind; just really good a missing small words. What I don't want is to have all the menus and bottoms read out, only text I have selected.

I have tried something with 'festival' and some GUI overlay (think that is what it is called) but it read absolutely everything out loud (and sounds like Amiga's speech engine, i.e. a quite low quality).

In my Mac OS X I have a really nice set up (with a voice called Alex) where I can start speech of selected text with "cmd + ; " and stop it with " cmd+' " (two shortcuts not used by the system).
