when i am in firefox, i do not get any sound when playing embedded videoes (like videos). but, i do get sound when playing videoes using vlc or when starting up or shutting kde.

Switched default Sound to USB Device in Sound Options in Task bar. After this i uninstalled the Adobe Flash plugin and reinstalled the Flash Plugin (after uninstall of Plugin, it still appears in Firefox as "10.0r32") by using the install Option direct from the adobe homepage as Yast Installation.I get sound with Koffein, can play mp3, everything fine, but Flash Clips are without sound. For sound i use usb speakers plugged in direct to the USB port of my Asrock motherboard. Suse also find the on board Nvidia Soundchip, but i only use the usb speakers. For further test i installed VLC Player. Here i also got no Sound, but Video is still playing.
I recently installed the x64 rpm of OSS on my Opensuse 11.2 installation (alsa does not have drivers for my lynx card). Sound works beautifully in KDE (login sounds, apps produce sound, etc), EXCEPT for firefox. I can get no sound at all from firefox. I am baffled at why only firefox does not play audio.
System:
OpenSuse 11.2 (it is a pretty fresh install)
OpenSoundSystem 4.2
KDE 4.4 (updated from factory repos)
I made a recent update to my Squeeze system and got this weird problem. mplayer, VLC and firefox (.....) all have sound. But when I try to run Amarok I get nothing. I looked into the Multimedia panel on the KDE4 system settings, and its not showing any devices at all. Previously it used to show HDA Intel etc., etc. Now the entries are completely blank. How do I get KDE to recognize my hardware? Shouldnt it pick things up automatically?

I got my head around the software repo's and got all my drivers working but I just can't work out how to get sound on firefox. Videos play fine (that was my problem with Mandriva) and the sound works everywhere else (Amorak,desktop sounds, etc) but firefox is silent (not just flash stuff). I've installed flash, java, mplayer and Gstreamer (but I had to change the vendor options). Am I missing some magic plugin or am i being incredibly stupid and there is some kind of "sound on" button I've missed? I've been searching for an answer all afternoon with no success. View 5 Replies View RelatedI've installed SuSE 64 11.3 (with updates) as a new installation 4 times because of video driver problems. On the 3rd installation Firefox crashes. I had no difficulties with 11.2 with the same hardware. I followed CAF's suggestion to another user to add it to the repo list and run a zypper install. No difference. I've added no new hardware. I then re-installed SuSE and made no changes to any setting or driver, but again, no Firefox continues to crash.

I've been having problems with firefox(updated) keyboard stalling. It's throwing off my typing. The stalls are small about a second, but making typing a problem. I have to wait for the stall to pass before I can finish typing a word.

I've had this issue since OpenSUSE 10.5 and Firefox 2.x. Now I'm on OpenSUSE 11.2 and Firefox 3.5.6. Here's the issue: I log into various sites to get my bank statements, utility bills, etc. They are all in PDF, and they open up acrobat reader and from there I save the bill as a permanent record. The first one I open opens fine. Subsequent sessions with subsequent providers (banks, whatever) opens up a new window as if to show me the PDF, but no PDF is there. Status on the window shows "done." No error messages. I have to shut firefox down, restart, log in again, and then it downloads fine. It's getting annoying.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a default OpenSuse 11.3 system with KDE4 and alsa and an Asrock 4coredual Sata2 motherboard with intergrated audio. I configured audio by yast2 after installation of the system, and it was working. But: anytime I re-start the system, a message pops up after start-up, asking if I really want to remove audio device this and that, and no matter what I choose, there will be no sound.
I can only get sound again by:
- running yast2,
- deleting the audio device configured,
- adding the same device, and setting the volumes again.
It is rather time consuming to manually re-configure (remove and add) audio after each system start-up.Another issue: there is absolutely no way to configure skype to be able to use the microphone input. What I speak into the microphone it goes to the loudspeakers (connected to the front speaker output), but never to skype. The only way to get skype capture mic input is to configure the front speaker as a microphone input device is skype, in which case skype captures all sounds that go to the loudspeakers, but in this case sound is overly distorted. Sometimes muting channels other than Mic and Master in kmix does not work either.
Is there a way to get a working audio in today's developped linux distributions, especially SuSE 11.3, or that is the past, like convenient file managers and useable desktop?
If one re-boots an openSUSE computer with open Firefox, the Firefox restarts when the system restarts. I started the download with KTorrent and after about 45 minutes came back to check progress and found that the ETA had gone up to around 10 hours for a 4.3 odd GB .iso. Wow thats a long time., I checked network utilization using the graph is System Monitor and we were running around 80 KB/sec. Paused KTorrent and opened Firefox, telling it to download the .iso from the ,edu site. I was very surprised when network utilization went to around 1000 kb/sec and the time to finish was much less (according to the Firefox download manager I have 13% of the file on hand and time to go is 1 hr 11 minutes). I had always been under the impression that any torrent client would be a lot faster than a straight download.......
The ISP here is Comcast. We pay for 6 mb down and around 2 up and routinely get it. The machine is a core quad with 2 GB of RAM. OS is OpenSuse 11.2-64 bit.
So what gives here. Is the torrent site that much slower than a straight download?? Or or could it be something the ISP is doing with torrent activity? I dont know enough about network protocol to know but I found the time difference and the amount of network utilization very surprising.
Does anyone know how to update firefox in SuSE Enterprise Desktop 11? I have upgraded the kernel to 2.6.33.2. I have tried to add the opensuse repository with no joy.
View 1 Replies View Relatedfor the past 2 month or so i've been constantly annoyed by my yast automatic updater to install a regress patch to send firefox back to 3.5.11...which i've been ignoring for a long time because to be honest i'm convinced that those suse developers have pretty much lost the plot recently , instead i've sticked to the latest stable releases of firefox that is 3.6.8 (btw today 3.6.9 has been released and i'm about to upgrade firefox to that...today)
anyways , my suspecion has been confirmed when another update poped up that said it's gonna update firefox from 3.5.11 to 3.6.8 (which is what i have now)so the question: HOW does the updater track which updates have been installed and which haven't? and how can i remove all or ignore firefox related updates ?
I just recently move from win 7 to opensuse, and still new on linux. just wondering if there is solution for thin font on firefox. I already search google for solution, the best solution so far is to lower screen resolution to 1024x768 (I prefer 1280x800).
Other tempt I tried are:
1. install freetype2, but the setting in "about:config" page on firefox aren't there. already try to create new boolean, but no effect at all.
2. install dejavu font and use it on firefox, but the font is still thin.
3. set minimum font size to 18. easier to read, but too big and messing up with website layout.
currently I'm using:
-dejavu font, minimum font size 18
-allow web to use own font (enable)
