View 9 RepliesI´ve got the problem that i get no sound with adobe Flash 10.0.32.18 in Firefox 3.5.4 on my Suse 11.2 What i´ve done: After Suse 11.2 installation i installed Audiocodecs by using 1 click installation from:
Restricted Formats/11.2 - openSUSE-Community
Switched default Sound to USB Device in Sound Options in Task bar. After this i uninstalled the Adobe Flash plugin and reinstalled the Flash Plugin (after uninstall of Plugin, it still appears in Firefox as "10.0r32") by using the install Option direct from the adobe homepage as Yast Installation.I get sound with Koffein, can play mp3, everything fine, but Flash Clips are without sound. For sound i use usb speakers plugged in direct to the USB port of my Asrock motherboard. Suse also find the on board Nvidia Soundchip, but i only use the usb speakers. For further test i installed VLC Player. Here i also got no Sound, but Video is still playing.
I have a strange problem with sound, or maybe It's ok, I dunno. The problem is. The first launched program that uses sound, "takes over" the sound or smth, anyway, all programs, started next, just not play sound at all. The only solution is to close all programs using sound and start one I need to "listen". When I get into sound settings menu and see the list of programs using sound, I see just one started first.
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhile installing openSuse on my PC, I dont get Desktop but only command line. I can see the following:
1) during boot process its staing: "Failed services in runlevel 5" and "waring GdmDisplay: display lasted 2.1317348 seconds" and " GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximun number of X display failure reached.
2) /var/log/Xorg.n.log files (n=1-5) "AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0"
I recently bought a decent sound card, the Asus xonar D1. Prior to purchase, I checked the Alsa matrix to make sure that it is supported. I couldn't get it to work after putting it in, so I did a clean install of Suse 11.2. Initially, it didn't work, but after I installed alsa-firmware, it worked. However, flash videos had no sound. I remembered something about this when I fist installed 11.2 with my older card. I looked it up and figured out that it was the PCM issue. However, when I opened kmix, there ws no PCM mixer. I even looked through the "hidden" mixers, making them all visible and maxing each out all without success.
Next, I started the "SDB:AudioTroubleshooting" process. When I got to step 2, I deleted the configurations of the xonar card configuration in Yast. I rebooted and lost all sound. I then started over with the "SDB:AudioTroubleshooting" and could not get anything, though I have not gone through updating Alsa, as I hope it is not necessary.

I am having problems getting sound to work in Suse 11.1 with a Cirrus Logic CS4281 chipset. I believe audio was working correctly in 10.2 (using KDE 3.X) but I am not 100% sure. The output from alsa-info.sh can be found at:
[URL] For a window manager, I am using the minimal x option. In general, I need sound to work without having an X server running (this is an embedded system). The motherboard is a VSBC-8 from versalogic and the manual can be found at [URL]
Here is a list of the things that I have tried:
1. Used alsamixer to set all volumes to 100
2. Used Yast to set all volumes to 100
3. Used Yast to test the sound
4. Used xmms to test playing a mp3 file
5. Used speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twav
I have suse 11.4 installed and I wish to replace the on-board sound chip with an add-on sound card. The following are available at my local shop but they cannot advise whether any will work on Linux Suse 11.4.
Anyone know which of these cards will work on Suse 11.4?
Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Asus Xonar DS
I recently bought a set of 2.1 speakers, all is fine. I like to listen to my DAB radio through them. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. I can get it back by:~>alsamixerand then F6 and then scroll to mic, switching to ON and slider up to full and then mic boost up to 65% or so.Can I tell something in KDE to default to mic/line-in on?kmix does not give the full picture I see in other's posts, like here:ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hostingjust a single slider under each tab, like this:

Maybe it's just an Amarok2 problem, but whenever another app (for example Konversation) plays a sound file, the audio instantly cuts out (in Amarok2) and will not come back unless I quit Amarok2 and restart it.
Amarok2 has only the options - "HDA ATI SB VT 1708S Analog" or "PulseAudio" (which is NOT installed).

Also I am totally confused by the mixer, it has so many knobs that I am totally lost!

I encountered this on a 10.3 system but there might be similar problem with the 11 series. Having gone through the business of obtaining config info on this card via pnpdump and subsequently using Yast to configure and install it, I encountered a situation whereby the card was fully functional as far as the "Test Sound" option of Yast was concerned. However, after a reboot, it was not loaded and no sound was possible. Debugging the "alsasound" script, I discovered that the directory /proc/asound was not in place at that time and, therefore, sound was not started.
The solution was to add the module name (snd_sbawe) to /etc/sysconfig/kernel to the parameter "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT". Seems like Yast did not see a reason to do this itself.
I recently installed the x64 rpm of OSS on my Opensuse 11.2 installation (alsa does not have drivers for my lynx card). Sound works beautifully in KDE (login sounds, apps produce sound, etc), EXCEPT for firefox. I can get no sound at all from firefox. I am baffled at why only firefox does not play audio.
System:
OpenSuse 11.2 (it is a pretty fresh install)
OpenSoundSystem 4.2
KDE 4.4 (updated from factory repos)
I have configured my sound drivers many times. After doing this i am able to listen a sound. But after booting there is necessary to configure them again. So is there a any way for permanent configuration.

I updated Lucid yesterday, and when I restarted the user interface was changed to a more simple feeling display. This makes me think I'm stuck in a "basic" mode or something. I attached a screen shot, but to give you an idea ill describe some issues. For one thing the minimize buttons are now on the right. The volume control, which used to appear on the top right of the screen, is gone and my multimedia volume control buttons on my Inspiron 1420 no longer work. Furthermore, the command terminal is now white and the keyboard shortcuts for copy and past don't work.
Immediately after updating I also got an error message at login (which also appears different and gives options on bottom of screen like gnome Failsafe) which said something like "gnome default power management installed incorrectly...". I followed the advice of a forum thread that involved the purge command and that seemed to remedy that message.
I have volume on my SUSE 11.1 But it is very weak compared to my MS OS.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWell, in first place let me tell you that my HDD boot sector or i dont know what is damaged, so to boot i made a boot usb with the grubdos utility, so anytime i want to boot in win7 i have to plug my usb and select win7 from it.Today i finished downloading the opensuse iso, then i mounted the image with poweriso and initialized the install, and it asked me to restart my computer, after that when i boot from my usb pendrive it goes directly to the opensuse install, but it just showme the blackscreen and nothing happens.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI Currently have the problem of not being able to install xmms on suse 11.3, apparently since there's no way to install it from the packman repos because xmms claims it's missing glib 1.22 -oh yeah that one. But since it worked like a charm on 11.2 i'm just wondering if the glib, gtk, and gdk rpms will be present in the future or have i just missed something. I've tried to compile gtk 1.2 and above on 11.3 but since it is a 64bit system it do not comply with my request.Output from glib-1.2.2 and 1.2.10

If anyone could give me a tip on how to compile the old 32bit gtk libs on a brand new 64bit system would be much appreciated. Or if there is an even simpler way please tell i.e if there is any repos hosting what i need. Greets

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got several language multimedia CD-Rom's, made for Windows 95/98/98 SE and 2000, that I'm using by means of my daughter's old PC (Win 98 SE O.S.). However I noticed, also, that you can perfectly use them even with Windows Vista. What I'd like to know is if you can use them even with Suse/Novell and (why not?) OpenSuse Linux.
View 4 Replies View Related I'm been struggling to find a way to configure suse to send audio to a receiver in some cases. Details: - Did a fresh install - Using an old SoundBlaster card (which worked in my previous version of openSuse) - I do have digital out, but only for Amarok (start menu -> configure desktop -> multimedia -> prefer "SB Live! Platinum [CT4760P], Multichannel Capture/PT Playback (IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output") and Kaffeine (.kde4/share/apps/kaffeine/xine-config -> set "audio.output.speaker_arrangement:Pass Through").
- I have analog sound on firefox and "test volume" on Administrator Settings -> Sound, but just can't find a way to configure those to digital passthrough (tried to copy "audio.output.speaker_arrangement:Pass Through" to .config/kde.org/Phonon-Xine.xine.conf but didn't work)

I like SuSE, I even got certified as admin of it but i'm going crazy every time when i want to watch some video. It's more easy to install and maintain some services then make suse play video. I'm going crazy when every player says to me that it doesn't contain any codecs. I heard i'ts all about licensing.. So, why doesn't Ubuntu havn't any problem to play my mp4 and other video formats just from the box?My case is regular.. No way to play mp4 in totem, banshee, xine no h264 decoder.
