View 1 Repliesi actually registered here because i'm done with my knowledge of linux, errors which cause my sys to hang and/or reboot randomly after some time. They occur while the system is under heavy cpu, heavy mem-read-write, mediocre mem fill, heavy hdd io (for ~20 seconds every ~5 minutes).
problem background we ordered two identical PCs (specs below), one of them brought those sata errors quoted below from /var/log/messages, the other one runs flawlessly. Same Hardware and Software Configuration. Faulty one brought reallocated sectors right at start, mass seek errors, read errors. 1st try: swap cables, change bios mode ata_piix <-> AHCI. Didn't work. Went away for repair. Stupid Techie did only swap hdd, so problems occured again. Shipping for repair again. Board AND hdd exchanged. no more seek/read errors, no more reallocated sectors. But similar sata problems right after 3 days of previously described workload. Following logs are from after the last repair.

I am seeing this behavior on one of my server which has huge amount of memory.,Have you ever seen this UCECC error when SUSE generates warm reset when memory test in the background ?
I have a disturbing problem with my monitor which goes to sleep (or ??) after few minutes if my comp is not used and most of the time I have to restart my comp.I disabled everything in Powersave , but nothing. I did have that problem in previous versions of SUSE, but somehow, I solved that. I cant remember what I did then.

The batter drained several days ago, and now when I attempt to boot I simply get a string of indecipherable error messages which last for about 5 minutes, and the screen then goes completely black. I am not able to even get to the login screen. Windows 7 Starter boots fine, so it's definitely a software issue. Any solutions short of completely reinstalling? I really don't want to lose all of my data.

I have implimented SugarCRM on a SUSE 10 box . Every thing goes ok but in the SugarCRM ,it's saying :

I looked through my command history to verify I hadn't done anything stupid. The only thing I had done since my last zypper command was to install ngspice....WITH zypper.
Looks to me like libreadline.so.6 is corrupt.
Is there a way I can "update" or reinstall libreadline.so.6 with an uncorrupted version without bricking my OS? I looked into uninstalling libreadline.so.6 from Yast Software Manager (GUI) but it throws all kinds of warnings about how it can't complete operations and it will break links and such....so I'd like to avoid it unless a guru says otherwise.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNewbie (again) trying to break the ties with Microsoft.Installed 11.2 this afternoon and have been fighting it ever since.I had an issue with the HLPIP Status Service stating "No system tray detected on this system. Unable to start, exiting". When I clicked "ok" I was presented with a blank destop and the widget icon in the corner.As I'm dual booting I was able to get back to M$ and determine this is an issue with the HP drivers and that I could add widgets to the desktop in order to use the OS. I've done that and have been able to get Yast running to update the drivers, didn't help, so I deleted the HP drivers for now.I can now boot into OpenSuse but I'm presented with my desktop full of widgets.

Reboot and now Win7 can join the domain, but with an error message about can't change the domain name to... but I just ignore it, and it works OK with any shared folders, the same way for WinXP. The only problem is that it won't map the logon drive P: but I can apply the "logon.bat" instead. However, I don't understand all of what I have done to make it work as I just copied from other experts.
Just ran into a problem involving mdadm, a disk which had been in a raid array, and an attempt to reformat. Basically, I went to reformat some partitions which had been in raid, and one of them threw the error andy@andy-desktop:~$ sudo mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdb5 mke2fs 1.41.11 (14-Mar-2010) /dev/sdb5 is apparently in use by the system; will not make a filesystem here! An attempt to umount revealed it was not mounted. lvdisplay and fuser did not reveal anything to me, so I just started looking around. I was graphically navigating /dev and noticed a /dev/md_d0 which did not look like /dev/md_d1 etc (it was missing a little arrow). I had not seen this notation before (my raid was md0), but figured it couldn't hurt to try stopping it.

After this, the partition formatted fine! I saw a lot of instructions including zeroing the partition and removing a logical volume, but the above was the only thing which worked for me! Just posted it in case it helps someone else. I know I've not been terribly technical!

I have a system running om vmware esxi with suse 9.3 i did an inplace upgrade to 10.2. i got the follwoing error during upgrade error occurred while installing grub (version 0.97) error 21 disk cannot be found. I ignore this error and the upgrade went fine. after a reboot the server works pretty fine. Except one thing GRUB.. i cannot install it on this system. i want to install grub on this system.

Error: Lsass Error [code 0x00080047] 9502 (0x251E) DNS_ERROR_BAD_PACKET - A bad packet was received from a DNS server. Potentially the requested address does not exist. I have already read up on this a little bit. Both servers are within a minute of each other, so I am not concerned about server timing. I am not sure where to go from this point. Everything I have read seems to indicate that this should "just work".
I noticed that a bit after I had updated Ubuntu 10.04 through the Update Manager, I couldn't print at all! (I run ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop and have a networked HP Officejet 6110xi all-in-one printer connected to a comp running Windows XP home on the same LAN). Everything works when I boot up in windows vista, so the problem is definitely in Ubuntu.
First, I checked the printer jobs and it said that there was an error with a filter or something. Restarting the job didn't do squat, so I decided to try reinstalling my printer, but get the same CUPS error "error-client-not-possible" right after I click "Apply". I then Googled the issue but didn't find much of anything, so I thought I'd try reinstalling CUPS. No luck there either... Same error again and again.
I am having some problems uninstalling wubi. Its not in the uninstall programs or coming up and a boot option when i boot my computer anymore. So i went out and downloaded the newest version, and tried to install it. Cause i thought that it had been removed maybe by anti-virus or something. When i clicked on it to install it said i had a previous version that i had to uninstall. So i clicked OK. It started to uninstall and then i got an error message. I tried it again and got the some error message.

We are in the process of testing SLES 10 SP1 installation, onto a new system.
Initially the installation got failed at the start giving following error :
"Could not find the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Installation CD. Activating Manual setup program."
What is interesting to notice is , if we use SLES 10 SP2 to boot the system upto the Installation menu and then replace the CD with SLES 10 SP1 media, the installation proceeds as normal without any error.
Not sure that could be the problematic thing over here. Does it mean with SP1 , no cdrom/cd or hard disk gets detected ?
After untarring the file and executing the binary for firefox, the following error is coming "brilliant:/firefox # ./firefox ./firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libpangocairo-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory". The libpangocairo-1.0.so.0 is there in /usr/lib.. I guess this is because the SuSE is 64 bit and the software Im trying to install is 32 bit.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am in possession of a new HP HPE-570f PC which I bought this morning. This has AMD Phenon 1090T and AMD Radeon HD 6770 graphics card. The OEM Windows 7 works fine. When I try to install Suse 11.4 using same DVD that works on my other (older) machine, I see the Suse Installation screen from which I select "installation", then comes the "Loading Linux Kernel" progress bar. As soon as the progress bar gets to the end, the computer reboots! Then of course I end up back at the Installation screen since the DVD is still in the drive.

The cluster successfully started and was working fine for about a day or so and then i logged in as root and hosts, fstab, known_hosts were all giving me this error when i tried to modify them "W10: Warning: Changing a readonly file"

I loaded the DVD with Bittorrent and Checksume and Burning are o.k/successfull. I also tried to reinstall with ext3 but still the same problem. Are there any known issues/solutions for this Problem?
I recently installed open SUSE 11.3 on my computer which I built myself and the problem I have is after rebooting the computer, I get a black screen. It will not boot the operating system. Here is my component specification:

Once I halt my desktop machine and then boot it back up, applications previously open will open automatically. Is this some sort of KDE4 feature? Or what process is responsible for this? And is there some sort of file constantly updated about open programs and once I reboot, this file is read by KDE during the boot-up and those previously open programs will be started automatically?
