I have just installed OpenSUSE 11.1 and it runs great. However, I cannot access my 2nd hard drive. I usually have two 160gb drives in my system. one for OS and programs the other for data. I wiped the OS drive before the install and detached the data drive until after the install. Suse can see the drive but wont allow me access to it. i suspect its because i have used a new user name and password.
View 2 RepliesI have a storage array and one of the logical volumes stays at 100% utilization whenever any process accesses the volume. It is a 9TB RAID 5 array on it's own SCSI interface card. I have another 9TB logical volume in the same chassis, on it's own card that does NOT exhibit the same behavior.
I'm measuring the utilization using atop. The strange thing is it pegs out at 100% utilization for the entire time a process accesses the volume, even when the data being accessed is just a few kb. My users home directories reside on this volume so as you can imagine every user is impacted whenever someone accesses any file from this volume.
The only processes being shown in atop are nfsd processes and xfslogd process. Nothing has been deliberately changed on this system. The only thing out of the ordinary that changed is a user deleted several TB from his home directory a week or so ago, just about the same time this problem came up. During the troubleshooting process, tis system has been rebooted several times.
My macbook pro stopped booting yesterday due to some file system corruption in the hard drive. I am able to access this drive through a linux live cd which I am using now but when I go to some folders it says "Could not enter folder /media/Macintosh HD/..." My question is how do I give myself the permissions to be able to access these files and transfer them to a network drive?

I think there are probably some potential challanges along the way to get this "working" For example, it seems to me that the array may present itself to application code as a single device. I need to drill down into the RAID and talk to each physical device in turn via some sort of pass-through mechanism. I'm currently pretty lost - can anyone point me in the "right" direction

I configured the device on XP following instruction from this forum and the AP configured perfectly.The AP is plugged directly into the network port on the computer. It *should* function correctly without a router. I tried a restart and Suse has no idea it's there. The computer is currently configured for a wired connection which needs to be changed. The computer itself is going to be used as a small home storage server.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a SUSE 10 sp2 server that I am using for hosting VMware and virtual machines. I have installed the basic host machine with only file server enabled (no dns, dhcp, print services or anything else). This is the fifth time I have had to reinstall because after I applied all the updates the system downloaded, it would not boot with a cd/dvdrom mounted. I tried everything I knew hot to do, which I admit isn't much (edited the fstab, tried to mount through command line) but nothing brought it back.
this all started because I had the entire machine loaded with VMware, two virtual machines, and all was well until I decided to update the OES2 sp1 virtual machines. All manor of issues cropped up like corn in the summer. So I reloaded after a week because I couldn't fix the problems and decided in my limited knowledge the updates probably caused the issues, and there was no undoing the updates. I assume (dangerous as that may be) that I applied too many updates to my bare system, but I would like a more experienced opinion.
I am dual booting OpenSuse 11.2 and Windows 7 both 64bit on my PC. I've got VMware workstation installed on both. I've got few virtual machines which were all created in Windows VMware and they're all stored on a separate partition. I can access this partition and all other NTFS partition from Suse but with read-only permissions. That means I can't run any of these virtual machines from Suse VMware. Is there any possible way to make all these drives writeable from Suse? I'm really hoping someone would be able to help me. I've got a lot of googling and have even searched this forum but without any luck.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two external hard drives. One is a 2.5" 80GB USB HDD and the other is a Seagate 3.5" USB 500GB HDD. Both hard drives are mounted properly and I can access the data on both hard drives. I can access the small 80GB HDD via ssh from another computer and delete files, but when I try to access the 500GB drive via ssh it says access denied. When I try to access it with root, I can access it but I cannot see any files listed.

View 2 Replies View Related I am running a hp dv701175nr laptop and am booting ubuntu 11.04 from a usb flash drive. I can not seem to find my internal drive that has windows 7 stored on it. I tried to mount it but it give me this error:

mount: according to mtab, /dev/sdb1 is already mounted on /
mount failed
I can't use this operating system if I can't access my windows 7 drive and I really want to use this OS .
EDIT: Okay, so I think I have found my problem, but I don't know how to fix it, there are differences in my mtab and fstab commands, I will post what they say in a second, but I do not know how or what I need to do to change and make the settings right

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a sitution that I am trying to set up.I have 2 email servers that run on Windows: one is for internal purposes, the other is external purposes.The external one will receive e-mail from the outside world, clean it up and forward it to the internal one.There are 2 Windows Vista machines and 2 Unix (OpenSuse Linux) machines.Since there can be only 1 email server per domain, I thought I would:
-> set up a local domain with ALL of the machines in it
-> set up a DNS server for the local domain
-> set up a MX record in the DNS server for the email
For the external machine, just have a Dynamic IP point to the Windows machine holding the external email server.Does this sound plausible? Does this make sense?How can one fix it so that a DNS under Suse is accessible from Windows?
I have tried following several online tutorials but can not get to the CD ROM Drive on my SUSE machine from my Netbook (Win XP). When I try to map the CD ROM from the PC it tells me \Netbookcd rom (Netbook is the NetBios name and cd rom is the share in SAMBA) the mapped network drive could not be created because the following error occurred. More data is available I have been struggling with this for several days have researched the LINUX Bible and several places online but cannot seem to get anywhere. I have learned a little about SAMBA and SWAT but not enough to make this work.

I disabled the Firewall and have Security Settings set to Networked Workstation. My system can be accessed from an other machine via PuTTY... I would like to be able to access the internet from this machine, but don't know what goes wrong here...

I boot into Suse OK but, don't have any rights. "su -" gives me "su: cannot set groups: Operation not permitted". I can't open Yast either.
View 6 Replies View Relatedthis weekend I updated the OS on my laptop from OS 10.3 to 11.2.Most things worked fine ... and quickly ... but I have issues with some USB devices.Printers and everthing that works like a Memory Stick, HD (camera, mobile phone) are OK. But after the update to 11.2 I can neither use my scanner anymore nor my Garmin GPS device. Both devices are listed with 'lsusb' correctly. But applications are not able to find/access them.
For the GPS device I do not know how to do more tests. The application (gpsman) that worked fine with 10.3 does not find it anymore. The Scanner is detected by Xsane or Skanlite and also the driver can be installed with Yast when plugged in. But a test fails with "sane_start: Error during Device I/O". 'sane-find-scanner' also lists the device correctly. As a normal user it complains that there is no write access for usblib to the usb device. As root this error does not appear. It can be avoided temporarily by setting chmod 777 to all /dev/bus/usb entries. Then 'sane-find-scanner' does not show any errors.
But the applications do not work.
I already added the normal user to the "lp" group as shown in the /etc/udev/rules.d/55-libsane.rules and tried to give access to the usb-devices in /etc/fstab .... all without success. As I have two USB devices (Scanner, GPS) that worked fine with 10.3 but are not an external HD (or similar), I assume that someting has changed with the handling of USB devices from 10.3 to 11.2.
I have set up nagios on Suse 11.2 and it is working fine on the localhost. I can access localhost/nagios, <ipaddress>/nagios in the browser and it loads up the nagios webinterface. If I try on a computer on the network with <ipaddress>/nagios the request times out. I have tested that I can ping to and from both machines (nagios machine and the machine I am trying to access the interface from).Some detailsNagios is running in a hyper-v VM. I installed it through yast2. Communication is run via a switch and sonicwall firewall but firewall has allow all within the network.I have a feeling it's some apache2 setting that I haven't configured or something blocking port 80.

I have the modem set up and still can't get the internet to come up. I get the mozilla blank webpage, but I am connected to the internet server. What can I do to get full internet access if everything seems to be working they way it should except for the blank webpage? I know I must be missing something but what?
Also, how do I open Yast to use it? I think I opened it by accident and got some things done
I have suse 11.0 installed and now that 11.1 is out i would like to update. I have searched for this already and have found three ways of doing it:
zypper dup
zypper up
in YAST view all packages and right click and click update all if update available.
I have tried all these methods but i still seem to be running Suse 11.0 as it says in sysinfo:/ . How do i successfully update from 11.0 to 11.1?
I tried to download the Suse 11.2 DVD to do an install. When I went to do the install it failed cause it was corrupt.Not to big of deal, I had an older version of 10.2.Now that I have 10.2 installed, is there a way for me to upgrade this to 11.2 without downloading the Install DVD.I've been away from messing with Linux for a few months so I'm pretty darn rusty. I'll run Linux for awhile and when I get frustrated I'll move back to Windows. I'll mess with that for a few months and then go back to Linux...

also separately the CD ROM is not detecting/detected except by the hardware report I sent in. My external Zip100 Is visible. as is the plug in floppy drive

I cloned a drive image on a computer using clonezilla. I want to clone the hard drive to another computer with same CPU/Motherboard/graphics card.
On the first computer, OpenSUSE is on sda. However, I found that the hard drive I want to clone to on the second computer is sdc. Now, the second computer won't boot because it want to load from sda. How can I change the drive from sdc to sda?
I am using 11.2 suse with gnome in vmware player on windows 7. I can drag and drop indivisual files from windows to suse and vice versa but Can I mount the whole windows file system in Suse.
View 5 Replies View Relatedhow to configure it. What I am trying to is this: I have a departmental folder housing two sub folders. The permissions on the parent folder for the department are 770 and the users from that department are all in a group based on their departments name.
One of the users who is granted access as a member of the group needs to be denided access to one of the two sub folders. How do I allow all users in the department into the first folder (this works already) but at the same time allow all but one into the second folder?
I am able to access internet, can ping other machines and can ssh into other machines. But cannot be pinged (it just hangs), and when trying to ssh into machine, it also hangs (no response)I checked the sshd daemon, it is not runningchkconfig --add sshdreboot, the sshd does not seem to come up.

Not only is the application missing in the KDE-Menu after installation (had to add it manually) but it is crashing frequently. Whenever one adds new text in a Textbox (which will NOT be formated with the specified default font but the first in the list) and then immediately changes the font without first leaving the input-focus of that box: Segfault / signal 11. I understand that there is a RC2 out by now and the specific error seems to be fixed by that.
Now my question is: After having decided to ship sUSE 11.4 with a RC: Will further RCs and maybe the final release of scribus be shipped by the OpenSuse Update? Or does the user have to manually install a working version of that software?
