CentOS 5 :: Unable To Install Wine (nothing To Do)?

Jun 26, 2009

Let me start by saying I'm new to CentOS. But we're getting a server with CentOS soon so I'm experimenting on a virtual machine for the moment. One of the things I'm going to test requires me to have wine installed on the CentOS box. I found that to install wine I need to use the command "yum install wine". When doing this nothing really happens. I get the following output on the screen:

Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
* base: centos.crazyfrogs.org
* updates: base: centos.crazyfrogs.org
* addons: base: centos.crazyfrogs.org
* extras: base: centos.crazyfrogs.org
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
No package wine available Nothing to do.

I've already issued the "yum upgrade" command but my problem still remains.

Does anybody know of this issue or is there anybody who can help me with this?

I've been trying to compile a small program on my 64bit Centos 5.3 but I need to compile it in 32bit mode. I've tried editing the make file and changing CC=gcc to CC='gcc -m32" and that doesn't work. I have also tried to use "make CC='gcc -m32' and that doesn't work either. It wont compile. Do I need to install something with yum to get 32bit compiler to work?

Fedora X86/64bit :: Wine Won't Run Anything

Sep 25, 2010

Im running Fedora 13 x86_64, I used to run the 32bits version, but I decided to get all I can from my 64bit procesor. Anyways, I have to run some aplications on Wine, like Microchip MPLAB software, for programing PICS, it used to workk perfectly fine on my 32 bits version, but ever since I installed the 64bits version, I can't get anything to work. Of course there are alternatives, but my coworkers use Windows, and MPLAb, alternatives have quite similar, but yet diferent sintaxis, so I kinda need to solve this, otherwise, I will have to migrate back to the 32bits version. I tryied o install some clumsy soft, but still, wine can't initialize anything. I tryied to install lots of libraries, but problably Im missing something.

General :: WINE GNOME Menus Won't Show Up After Re-install Of WINE?

Dec 18, 2009

Lot of questions about WINE... When I'm done I'm going to make a HOWTO so that others can do what I did It's hard work, but I'm nearly done.The last problem I'm having is the WINE menu on GNOME won't show up after a install of WINE from a .deb package (it usually does). This was after I compiled WINE from source and removed it with "make uninstall" and "rm -rf /.wine".So now I installed the WINE from a deb package and the Wine menu entry is not showing up.I've tried re-installing Wine and rebooting my PC but nothing seems to work.

CentOS 5 :: 64bit Vsftpd Not Working?

Mar 9, 2011

I recently got a hosted CentOS 5.5 box at a server farm to run a small ftp server for me.

They preloaded the image and installed a .86_64 build of 5.5, and I've only been familiar with i386.

I didn't think there'd be much of an issue from this, but I've gone thru all the normal steps to install and configure VSFTPD, however nothing is working.

I'm running CentOS release 5.5 (Final)

and I've gotten VSFTPD build 2.0.5 release 16.e15_5.1 installed from both yum and rpm (at separate times) and I've also tried grabbing the tar ball of 2.3.2 and 2.3.4, but run into dependency issues when compiling the code using GCC (it wasnt installed the first time).

i've started and made vsftpd persistent using service vsftpd start, chkconfig vsftpd on, and i restart the service after any changes to the conf file.

I'm trying to run the following settings. in /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf

# Example config file /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf
#
# The default compiled in settings are fairly paranoid. This sample file
# loosens things up a bit, to make the ftp daemon more usable.

CentOS 5 Server :: Running A 64bit VM In KVM?

Apr 25, 2011

I have a CentOS 5.5 system that I am able to run fully virtualized 32-bit VM's on just fine, but I have need to run some 64-bit VM's on it. It has a "paravirtualized" option that might possibly work, but it wants a network install path, and I am not sure if this is the actual solution. When I go to create the VM I only have i686 and xen for options on the virtualized method, is there a way to add (I am presuming) amd64 in here somehow? The CPU is definitely 64-bit. My google-fu hasn't found results for me yet.
