I have nagios/nrpe installed on a client and for some reason, the xinetd service is running/checking every minute. The log is just getting larger by the minute with the start and exit of xinetd.
View 19 Replies View RelatedWe have Nagios running on a server, and are installing NRPE as a daemon on web servers we need to monitor. I'm two servers in and have hit a small snag. The two servers we're currently trying to monitor are, to the best of our knowledge, very similar (Centos 5.4, Apache, MySQL, PHP etc etc), and the installations of NRPE on them should be the same. One is being monitored just fine, however we can't check on the other one without including the -n switch (to disable SSL) in the check_nrpe call. If we don't, however, the error we get is, "CHECK_NRPE: Socket timeout after 10 seconds.". In /var/log/messages on the machine that fails we see:

The only kind of related thing I can think of that's different between the two machines is that one (the one that works) has actually had an SSL certificate installed on it, for the site it hosts.
When ever I have an issue with our LDAP server (which I was able to fix) we see the following errors in /var/log/messages and it causes problems with our services running on that box, e.g. httpd, nrpe, xinetd, etc. Aug 8 17:44:42 hostname httpd: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server ldap://serveraddress/: Can't contact LDAP server Aug 8 17:44:42 hostname httpd: nss_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 64 seconds)... I am only wanting to authenticate SSH and Sudo and not services like httpd, nrpe, xinetd etc.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi tried to install nagios server and nrpe package i am getting some ssl issue i am unable to resolve this problem pls guide me i am using fedora servers i installed nagios,nagios-plugins,nrpe,xineted, and openssl* packages in my local fedora system i am able to login my web browser as a nagiosadmin account i can able to monitor my localhost as well as i installed the nrpe-x.x.x.tar.gz,xineted,openssl* in my remote system. i allowed the nagios server ip in /etc/xineted.d/nrpe.cfg i restarted the xineted service in my remote system i wrote the iptable rules in both systems (I allowed the 5666 port in both systems)
when i run below command i am getting the successfull out put local system and remote system

installing the PCI wireless card drivers in CentOS linux. I have "Sabrent PCI-G802 PCI Wireless Card - 54Mbps, 802.11g". I tried looking in google and tried multiple ways to install the driver but failed , I have followed the instructions given in the link i.e.
performed the following steps .....
1.# tar xvzf package.tar.gz (or tar xvjf package.tar.bz2)
2.# cd package
3.# ./configure
4.# make
5.# make install
I have the original cd (this cd has linux drivers also) which came with the PCI card but its not a plug and play cd like the MS windows, the cd drive is not reading the disk (But i can open it in windows 7). I copied the installation files from the cd to usb drive on my windows 7 PC and copied them on to the CentOS /home/user directory and performed the above mentioned steps. I was successful in getting till the second step. when i did the step 3 the system is asking some thing about
"Linux kernel source directory [/usr/src/2.6.18-92.el5PAE-i386]: Configure"
I just pressed the enter button and it went to the next message which is
"Linux source tree 'Configure' is incomplete or missing!" Configuration failed
I have an i5 Thinkpad running Windows 7 64-bit. VT is enabled in the BIOS. I have installed vmware server v 2.0.2 but am unable to install Centos 5.5 x86_64 as a guest OS. does it not accept ftp passwords.. what ftp server program (with autostart so it works with crossover linux as i know no other way start apps with that. can try to insta wine but need rpm) will work
I've followed all the instructions in nagios documentation to install the nrpe agent in a remote host, but the daemon nrpe is not listening on port.. that means I can't even test it localhost!
netstat -at | grep nrpe
returns nothing.
You added the nrpe entry to your /etc/services file - done
The only_from directive in the /etc/xinetd.d/nrpe file contains an entry for "127.0.0.1" - done
xinetd is installed and started - done
Check the system log files for references about xinetd or nrpe and fix any problems that are reported - syslog empty..
Installed lsof and lsof +M -i4:
xinetd 25680 root 5u IPv4 75987 TCP *:nrpe (LISTEN)
Is there anything else I can do to correct this? I configured this yesterday and it was working ok.. but today when got into computer it stopped working
I want to have like 4 machines, each one of them with Nagios and nrpe (plugin+daemon) installed so that every one of the machines could be able to monitor all of the others.. Is there any problem doing this? Or having nrpe+nagios in the same machine is ok?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI tried to install centos 5.3 on my dell pc. I downloaded the large 3.69 gb dvd iso. file from 5 seperate mirror sites and burned the disk images. When I boot it did the disk checks and they have been all good. The problem I'm having is it starts the boot process lets me get to the partition settings and then goes to formating the harddrive then when it starts the install part it goes for a few minutes then gives me a error that it cant find a file (not allways the same file) and says the install sorce is missing a file or is corrupted. This is why I have spent a few days downloading from different mirror sites to see if that was the issue, they all cant be bad.
When I first attempted the install it installed grub for multi boots I dont think this has any problem with finding the files but who knows. I looked up on how to uninstall grub and you can not from the info on there site.The box is a dell pent 4 with one gig ram, two ide hard drives and it ran windows xp. I intalled fedora on the box and it ran fine w/ no install errors I just need to try and set up a server so I can install webgui's cms webhosting wre software. In there forums they said centos 5 is the best os for what I want to do.
I've downloaded the YUM RPM to a flash drive and double-clicked it in an attempt to install the RPM. Package Manager reported that the RPM is already installed. Oddly enough, when I try to open Package Manager itself, I get an error, "Unable to retrieve repository metadata. This could be caused by not having a network connection available." and the >Details are "Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: c5-media. Please verify its path and try again." (A network connection IS available...I'm posting from the server, right now!)
If I click on the Repository Manager button, I get the attached picture and assume that sll is well with those different configurations.
I have a very urgent problem that is nailing me down for days now: I was running CentOS 5.7 x86_64 very successful in a VM here. Now i wanted to install it on a native system here. So i burned the 8 ISOs to 8 CDs.
When i started the installation however, it is booting correct, (continue in GUI mode) and then finally asking me for installation language/keyboard layout, then it comes up with "CD Not Found" - "The CentOS CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the CentOS CD and press OK to retry" - what i did, several times, without success.
Next try: The DVD image. So i installed a torrent client, downloaded both ISOs, burned them several hours later -> same result. after going through the first steps (selecting install language and keyboard layout): "CD Not Found" - "The CentOS CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the CentOS CD and press OK to retry" - what i did, several times, without success.
So, last try: The NetInstall image. Downloaded the ISO, burned it, and yah! Finally, i can install CentOS. It took almost 6 hours to get through the installation. I got one error (Can't download 'something i don't remember'), i said retry, and it continued. So but now it hangs after startup. Mouse cursor is visible, blue nice 'wait' anim is playing, that's it.
I'd really want to reinstall it, and i don't trust the net install (i probably screwed up something else) - so how can i fix this damn CD drive issue? is the drive (oem something standard IDE thing) not supported or what?
someone with good experience of monitoring windows event logs with nrpe or check_nt + nsclient++ give me some good examples of the above. I do have this working, but some of the checks appear inconsistent.

I downloaded the Eclipse CDT version from here CDT 4.0 for Fedora and I tried to install the RPM as root.

I downloaded the CentOS-5.3-i386-bin-DVD.iso, after recording an image on DVD
Start the installation, selecting Installation Method, chose Local CDROM - Message on my screen: "CD Not Found"

Let me start by saying I'm new to CentOS. But we're getting a server with CentOS soon so I'm experimenting on a virtual machine for the moment. One of the things I'm going to test requires me to have wine installed on the CentOS box. I found that to install wine I need to use the command "yum install wine". When doing this nothing really happens. I get the following output on the screen:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI cannot boot from the OS dvd. It says looking for boot info on CDDVD then boots right into an older version of windows that happens to be on the hdd. If I unplug the hard drive I can get into the CentOS installer but this is useless because the hdd isn't viewable as a place to install the new OS. I don't know if I need to format the drive before hand so that Cent has a clean slate or if there is a problem with the DVD itself. The later I dont believe so based on the working of the installer while hdd unplugged. The DVD drive is on its own ribbon and both hdd and dvd drive or set to primary master in DOS.
Aside: I have recenlty moved to centOS formally using ubuntu and messing around with fedora on another computer. I am using cent based on work with school, they recommended cent for project with professor.
