Red Hat / Fedora :: Entering Passkey Ssl Through Bootscreen
Apr 1, 2010
I created a key for an ssl site with a passphrase. Worked really well and enjoyed doing it. I then shut down the lpatop and drove back to my parents for easter...
Now Fedora won't fully boot, and I'm just have the line that creeps along the bootom. I've tried a few things, but not having any joy. I obviously need to enter this passphrase, but how should I do this?
Do I go out any get some CD's to make a boot disk? Or is there a way to disable the graphical boot options from grub?

After entering the gdm I'm being asked "Would you like to enter a Security Context [N]?" during login. I've had a look around online but can find nothing final about this.

Can't get into GRUB to reset root password. Hitting ESC only toggles between verbose boot information and progress screen. Holding SHIFT does not bring up the GRUB screen for Runlevel editing. Only found correct key strokes once and forgot what they are. While I'm here, does anyone know how to choose and permamently select a kernel version for bootup?

I've been using Ubuntu on and off ever since about 8.04. This newest release (10.04)... wow it's amazing. That's all I can say. The only gripe I have right now is that right after I select Ubuntu from GRUB, the screen goes black for about 10 seconds, then goes to the bootscreen. By the time it gets to the bootscreen, the bootscreen is shown for about 3 seconds, and then I get the lockscreen. I have a nVidia card with proprietary graphics drivers installed.

I am starting a small business for computer repair and was wondering if there is any software available for entering and keeping track of service calls. Right now I am using Kmymoney for keeping track of finances and it seems to be working out ok. I also use day planner to keep track of appointments. However, I haven't found anything to keep track of service calls. Currently, I am pretty much trying to adapt spreadsheets as a "get by" solution but its not that pretty.

For some unknown (to me) reason, "Ctrl+Shift+u, <unicode number>" doesn't work in F12. I had gotten quite used to this method in order to input several symbols and if you know what you want, it is a lot faster compared to using the character map. This was working in all recent Fedora versions.Does anyone know how to enable this functionality?

How can I uninstall grub? I have have dual boot between Gentoo and Ubuntu and I want to use the grub, that is on Gentoo partition, as its my main system. I would not care about it as it takes almost no space, but Ubuntu automatically restores its own bootscreen after updates. This is annoying... How to get rid of it?

Whenever I am prompted to enter the root password, typical example would be in 'Power Management' clicking the button 'Make Default', pressing ENTER or clicking AUTHENTICATE doesn't close the box. To get passed this I have to press ALT+F4 and it continues which I'm assuming still does authenticate.

When I use rar e to extract a rar file, the request for entry of the password always says password will not be echoed. For longer passwords, this is difficult, since a single mistyped key will result in an error.
Does anyone know how I can use the rar command to extract and have the password echoed (appear on the screen as I type it)?

I'm a newbie running Ubuntu 9.10. I have two users (wife and me), and each user's screensaver is set to lock so that on wakeup, we get to choose which user's desktop to go to. However, Ubuntu requires a password, so this is pretty tedious.I'd like to switch users without entering any password. I know about this trick that works for the boot login, but it doesn't deal with multiple users. Is it possible to set empty passwords for users in Ubuntu, or skip the password in other ways?(I'm expecting real Linux users to suggest that passwordless users must not get any rights and there be an admin user with a strong password.

Any idea how to log a user in without a password in GDM? I've found this archived thread but it doesn't appear to do anything when I tried what it says: [URL] I'm not looking for auto-login. I'd simply like one user to be able to click on his name and it will log in without prompting for a password.

Is it possible to switch users in Debian without entering a password, as in Ubuntu Maverick? I already tried adding a nopasswdlogin group but it did not work, even though the "don't ask for password on login" entry in the login manager is no longer greyed out. Replacing gdm3 with gdm also did not work.

How to allow a user to login without entering a password?
If my question sounds wierd then check out m-net at www.arbornet.org/m-net.php and see how it works.
Telnet / SSH to m-net.arbornet.org and type in newuser and it won't prompt for a password.

I have gotten my touchpad and wireless working after a day of research and help on this forum. The bad news is that I need to enter these commands every time I boot up. I know there is a way to load these commands into the startup. But I am not quite sure where to put them.
# modprobe lib80211
# cd hybrid_wl
# insmod wl.ko
# ifconfig eth1 up
# synclient tapbutton1=1
# synclient tapbutton2=1
# synclient tapbutton3=1

I just installed CentOS 5.4 (x86_64) and I encrypted my /home /var /tmp and /mnt/Storage partitions, along with my swap partition. My only complaint is that when I boot, I have to enter my password 4 times, and I did not pick a short password. The password is the same for all 4 partitions. Is there anyway I can set things up so I can just type my password once? Once I get everything set up, I won't be booting that often, but right now it is a PIA.
