Debian :: How To Create A Package
Jun 13, 2010I would like to know how to create a package properly. Because, in Wine website, the latest .deb is for Wine 1.1.42 and now there is Wine 1.2-rc3.
I know that i can install Wine with the source and these command : ./configure make make install
doesn't want to compile Wine source (brr it's terrible), it's simpler to install the lastest Wine version with the package.

Jul 12, 2010I tried following this tutorial on how to create a Debian/Ubuntu package and ran into the following stumbling block: When I tried installing debmake (a tool to easily create Debian packages; trying to debian-package a jhbuild prefix and upload it to a PPA) I got an error from APT saying that the package was not found.After an extensive Google search, I noticed that the package was only used in Ubuntu up to Hardy and after that was deprecated. Why? Did dpkg-dev suddenly include the deb-make command in its package or something?
After reading the deprecation announcement on the mailing list located in the Google search it seems as though debhelper replaces debmake.

Jun 7, 2011I have been trying to create an rsyslog config for a software package that I use. I want to use the local7 facility for this package, and split the messages according to priority across several files. I would like the config to be a file which can just be dropped into rsyslog.d without having to modify the rsyslog.conf or 50-defaults.conf. I created a file called 40-test.conf, in which I have the following:
local7.none /var/log/messages
local7.none /var/log/syslog
local7.=info -/var/log/test.info
local7.=debug -/var/log/test.debug
local7.=notice;local7.=warning -/var/log/test.notice
local7.=err -/var/log/test.error
I am getting the correct local7 messages in the correct 'test' files, but i am also still getting local7 messages in /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog, so it seems the local7.none has no effect. Is this the correct method of achieving what I want? What am I doing wrong?

May 6, 2011I've compiled the last stable ubuntu kernel (2.6.38-...) following this guide: How to compile a Ubuntu 10.10 kernel but in this guide doesn't explain how create linux-libc-dev package for that kernel? How do I do?
I've tried with fakeroot debian/rules binary-arch-headers but it returns an, IMHO, absurd error:
mkdir /home/simon/sources/kernel/ubuntu-natty/debian/linux-libc-dev/usr/include/
mkdir: cannot create directory `/home/simon/sources/kernel/ubuntu-natty/debian/linux-libc-dev/usr/include/': File exists
make: *** [install-arch-headers] Error 1
The error is correct but this folder is created in the same process!

Wich tool and how can i do it? c Well, i am in position to say that i had downloaded from Internet or located the package in the Cd or DVD that comes with the magazine.
But now comes the big question. How can i put this package ( install) on my distro ???
Do i have to be a normal user or should it be root or su (superuser) ?
The packages that come with the distro is easy, because i select them and everything is done
As i told before, maybe this is a silly question, but i simple don't know how to install them and i need some of them to leave MS for good.

Feb 17, 2010After a long time I tried ubuntu(9.10) again on my fileserver, I have some remarks; why does a minimal server installation include X/openoffice? I don't need document conversion on a fileserver and I bet a lot of people don't. Wouldn't it be better to create a new server package and leave minimal minimal? low memory installs (64mb) don't work unless you configure swap by hand in between things, 64mb ram is a lot in my eyes. I mean, not to be rude but if I wanted all this I could've better installed Solaris.
That said it's stable and running fine. Since it's my home fileserver I tried to convert my previously created raid10 mirror on an adaptec 1200 card to a softraid 5 solution. This is wat I did:

May 24, 2010Today I was using Gchempaint (part of Gnome Chemistry Tools) and found that the F12 version fails miserably to correctly export H to xyz. So I decided to install the latest version I found (0.11). There are, however, some problems I must sort out during compilation.
Apparently it does not see my 'cairo' installation and so I get the following error message:

which used to work in RHEL, but in here, I get the message on screen: "You have specified that the group 'everything' should be installed. This group does not exist. Would you like to continue or abort". so what's the group name/code to install all packages?

Of these, only libnetpacket-perl is not packaged for Ubuntu 9.10 karmic.

I simply want that the war file from sources is transferred to the web app of my tomcat server through RPM. I try to package it as an RPM, but its always giving me errors in %build stage. When I try to remove %build from stage from the spec file, then it says command missing.
My system details are:

This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies I tried to download and install Chrome, and it came up with a similar error.
Is my install corrupt/incomplete or something? My setup is a P4 2.4Ghz, 512Mb RAM, onboard graphics, wireless internet and the HDD is 40GB, split into 2 partitions, and my Ubuntu Partition is 10 GB. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS distribution, and the other OS is Windows XP Professional SP3.I installed Ubuntu by using the Wubi installer.
