View 2 RepliesI have a Fedora 11 PC, which I want to connect to the ldap server at my organisation. When my /etc/ldap.conf file is in place, the machine will not boot past "starting system messagebus" and just hangs there. I have to press the reset button, and boot it into single user mode, and remove /etc/ldap.conf, and only then will it boot. The ldap.conf file is fine, I think, because if you boot the machine up without ldap.conf, then log in.
I can put ldap.conf in place and immediately I can see all the user accounts etc. from the ldap server. If I then reboot, with ldap.conf in place, it hangs on boot again. I found a bug report for FC5 which stated this problem, but there was no solution. There was a workaround, making messagebus starting later in the boot process (move it from S22 to S27 in rc3/5.d), but that didn't help in my case.
My ldap.conf contains this (I've removed my actual ldap info):
host my.server.ip.addr
base dc=my,dc=dn
uri ldap://ldap.mydomain.com
ssl no
tls_cacertdir /etc/openldap/cacerts
pam_password md5
bind_policy soft
As I say, I think the ldap config is fine, because you can start it manually once the machine has booted up without an ldap.conf in place. I lifted it from a Centos client, which works fine and doesn't have the same problem with booting that Fedora does.
I want to make my machine to PXE boot windows from another machine having RHEL5.2. I know the procedure to PXE boot linux, but I want to know is it possible to PXE boot your client machine with windows XP.

I am using the synergy client to share mouse/keyboard but I would like to run Xming which is a Xserver for windows to display on my Windows machine. I have 3 monitors 1 is connected to the Linux machine and then I have 2 connected to the windows vista and I want to share 1 one using a windows Xserver. I have the server installed and setup on my windows machine and I just curios on how to configure my Xorg.conf file to use my Xming Xserver as a seccond monitor.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have LDAP authentication working via SSSD using authconfig-tui and a few minor modifications to sssd.conf (ie: max_id etc). The problem I am having is it would appear /etc/ldap.conf is being ignored and/or setups that work perfectly on RHEL5, F11 and F12 no longer work on F13. Specifically Im referring to "pam_check_host_attr" and "nss_map_attribute". It refuses to honor either of these options and I can only assume a number of the other options in our ldap.conf. For instance, "nss_map_attribute" is defaulting to the standard "homeDirectory" rather than "homeDirectoryLinux". This is related to a bunch of OSX clients we have and its not optional to use another setup. The host restriction is also a major issue.
Relevant sssd.conf:
[domain/default]
auth_provider = ldap
cache_credentials = True
My computer is Linux (FC11). My laptop is Linux (FC10). My printer Canon MP630. Connected to my computer. Prints fine from either computer or laptop. Love it. Linux easy for printing. My boss even thinks so.
Share is enabled with all users.
I cannot get my wife's Vista/Home Basic laptop to print via FC11. Have tried adding with server. nada. Tried adding with TCP/IP. nada. . smb\Towerprinter. nothing. [url] nothing + every combination there of.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy company's default OS is Windows 7. I convinced my manager so that I could use Fedora 12, since I am mostly familiar with development environment in Fedora. However there are a few things I need in Windows 7, and I want to stop going back and forth in two OS'es in dual boot-up setting.
I've searched online for easy way to use the existing Windows 7 as guest virtual machine. I first tried VMware's Vcenter Converter Standalone in Windows 7, but it failed with some error code, and searching the particular error code didn't turn up any solution. I also tried to use Sun's VirtualBox, but I get segmentation fault error in Fedora. I tried to see if VMware server has a tool, but installation exists with an error, and searching the web for the error code didn't turn up anything either.... I wonder if I am having this much difficulties because I am using x86_64 version of OS'es.
Anyhow, if anyone has done it successfully - using existing Windows 7 as guest virtual machine in x86_64 version of Fedora 12.
I try to access my ubuntu machine via my Windows Machine (Samba Server on Ubuntu Machine). Anytime I try to access the machine it asks me for my password...I enter it but it says it is invalid....is there anyway to reset it? I have already tried to remove and purge everything Samba related and then tried reinstalling, but that still didn't do anything
View 2 Replies View RelatedI remember it being really easy to add a printer attached to another computer using Ubuntu, but I don't remember exactly what made it so easy. All I know is that now that I have switched to Kubuntu the process has become much harder because now I have to find out some special locations, numbers etc. for it to connect to the printer. It's connected to a Windows XP machine on the other side of the house.
It says alot about 'contacting the network administrator' if I am unsure about what to put in. But I am more or less the network administrator. how to find out what numbers to put in so that my Linux machine can connect and print to the Windows machine? Or maybe someone knows a few commands to share? I go to Applications > Settings > System settings, Printer configuration, New Printer, New Network printer, and then there are a few options but I don't know which one to choose. Windows Printer via Samba, I guess? Then in the box that says smb://[enter stuff here] I need to put in info but I don't know how to find that info.
I installed samba and samba-client (sudo yum install samba samba-client) but I still cannot connect to this Windows machine.I installed samba, started the samba services (although that may only by necessary to connect into Fedora?), and even restarted the computer and I still cannot do this, I have been googling like crazy and only se articles on how to make Fedora a samba server...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to establish the easiest way to share a folder from an Ubuntu machine to a Windows machine.In the past I have added things to smb.conf and that has all worked fine but what I am trying to do is to figure out what the "new user" way of doing this is so that when I am helping other people I know I am getting them to do the simplest thing.I completely removed samba and reinstalled it so that I didn't have any configuration. Right clicked on a folder and selected "Sharing Options" ticked the "Share this folder box" gave it a name and a comment and ticked the other two boxes.
When I went to the windows laptop then it kept asking for a username/password and nothing worked.Back on the ubuntu machine I did sudo smbpasswd -a [username] and created a blank password. Now from the windows machine I can access the shared folder.Is the smbpasswd step still required? It's very confusing for a new user as there is no suggestion that anything other than right clicking on the folder and choosing the options you want would be required. Is it something to do with the fact that this is an ubuntu machine that has gradually been upgraded through versions and this problem wouldn't have been there from a new install?
I need to access a Windows Server 2000 machine using a Linux machine via KDE, but that will migrate to Gnome. The Linux user to connect to Windows machine, you should open an application 'XYZ' automatically, and only this, denying any unauthorized access. When you close the application 'XYZ' communications (RDP?) Should be terminated. Do I need a log of accesses and possible attempts to circumvent the system and access other application.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two machines, one has XP service pack2, second one has CentOS 5.3 (Linux), they are connected through crossover cable. I have configured everything fine but don't know why till now can't ping!
A. Windows machine settings as follows:
IP Address: 192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gatway: 192.168.1.1
+ Firewall is turned OFF.
B. For Linux machine, I will list everything stored in network files, logged as [root@localhost ~]# :
1. /etc/sysconfig/network:
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.4 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
route add -net 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 eth0
route add default gw 192.168.1.1 eth0
NETWORKING = yes
NETWORKING_IPV6=no
HOSTNAME=localhost.localdomain
2. /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE="eth0"
IPADDR="192.168.1.4"
NETMASK="255.255.255.0"
ONBOOT="yes"
BOOTPROTO="yes"
3. /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 192.168.1.4
search locadomain
4. I restarted network service using this command:
/etc/init.d/network start
everything is fine. When checking using ifconfig command. I get the following:
eth0 Link encap: Ethernet HWaddr 00:08:0D:EE:19:66
inet addr:192.168.1.4 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr:........
[code]....
I mean I assigned the IP: 192.168.1.4 to Linux machine (Eth0). I did everything above and can't ping till now, when pinging from windows or Linux I get a message "destination host unreachable" restarted Linux many times but same result. NETWORK CABLE is working fine I tested it.
