Red Hat / Fedora :: Searching Path Of Some Basic HW Values
Apr 22, 2010
I would like know in which file is the machine name, os type and processor architecture stored in? I would like to know the path to those files where the value for os is i386 and machine i686 is something like this, in which file the systemuser and the number of users of that system is stored
/usr/src/redhat/RPMS/ ...
In these files i686 and I 386 is stored as directories and not as values but I want them as values in the file.
I have a question regarding the user that chkconfig runs as. My chkconfig script calls some other scripts to start up a tomcat instance. But the secondary scripts use %JAVA_HOME and for some reason the user it's running under doesn't have that defined. I can call the scripts directly as the root or as another user and it works properly. But I added an echo in the script and when chkconfig calls the script it has a much smaller $PATH and no $JAVA_HOME.
how to add a path to PATH variable permanently so that it remains persisent even after closing shell and rebooting the system when i added a path, to variable it remained there as long as i didn't closed the shell. but when i reopened it ,changed were undone.
After saving above changes, I enter the command: source ~/.bashrc Now if I do echo $PATH, the path shows both the old PLAY_HOME and new PLAY_HOME. This is really bad and messes up a lot of things in my project. This problem only goes away if I logout or reboot, a rather very long process. What is happening is that the old path is added to new path element and the old path includes the old path element you want to remove.
running Windows 7 64bit with VMware Workstation 7.01-build 227600. I have some knowledge of Linux, I have installed f12 and have updated the system as of 03/22/2010. All updates completed successfully.
1) How do I install VMTools on the f12 (after mounting the CD/DVD tool package)
2) How do I update the gcc files it says are dependencies?
Here's what I get on installation:Before you can compile modules, you need to have the following installed...
make gcc kernel headers of the running kernel
and then I am prompted for this input from the install script:
Searching for GCC... The path "" is not valid path to the gcc binary. Would you like to change it? [yes]
and this is where I get stuck. How do I get around this or satisfy the requirements for the install?
X programs specify parameter "-display dpy". I have failed with many guesses at dpy values. I find no definition in man pages and elsewhere. I know it is simple. I request examples.
I was just trying to search for something in the yum gui and got the following error...Anyone else getting this?
Code: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py", line 391, in _do_search for (pkg, inst) in res: ValueError: too many values to unpack
been searching for days now for a crossword app for Fedora... Im finding it extremely hard to believe that such app doesnt exist? Yet, my searching hasnt yielded anything so far. Is there nothing in the repo?
I have a file which provide the output of all the applications which started and running successfully. But it doesn't give the Error message of the applications which are failed. For example there are 5 applications (ABC,DEF,NMO,STO,XYZ) and application STO failed so I will get the following output (out.txt). content of out.txt file
Application ABC is Running Application DEF is Running Application NMO is Running Application XYZ is Running
I want to generate the text message based on the information on out.txt that STO application is Failed.
I'm on the Fedora 14. I'm getting troubles. I can't do YUM UPDATE! See the attached image. It's trying to search for mirrors forever. Impossible how awful the performance. What shall I do? My project development has been paused for a moment.
I'm currently using Fedora 12.I'm having trouble ripping a DVD. Every time I use cropdetect in Mplayer, it gives me negative x,y values which makes it impossible for me to use Mencoder to remove the borders. I shall display the info below. Also, may I add that I'm trying to use 2 pass encoding to recieve better video quality. I would like convert the DVD to an AVI file. I've compiled all the binary codes for various codecs so I'm not sure what's wrong.
Also, it can not find any audio tracks on the DVD either. I was successfully able to rip the trailor for a different movie on the DVD to avi which was track 3 no problem (wiith good quality sound that synced up)I'm new to Fedora and Mplayer/Mencoder, but "WinBlows XP" doesn't seem to help with ripping good quality videos so I decided to try something in Fedora.
Recently I was going through some chmod manipulations and found the umask values to be 0002 by default in Fedora 11 distro. What I knew about the default values to be 022. I don't know whether this is a kernel modification in this distro or my system is in compromise(I doubt for the latter option, but not confirmed).
When you put in the Fedora disk, it has an option "Install system with basic video driver". What does that mean? If I am not going to download a video driver, is that the better choice?
When trying to search for applications to install via 'Add/Remove Software', I get the following error:
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py", line 391, in _do_search for (pkg, inst) in res: ValueError: too many values to unpack
I am trying to get Yumextender to work and I get a error window. I am looking for a basic online ordering system that is:Web-based. Runs on LAMP, etc.Stable, reliable, etc.Open source. The end-user uses a web browser to order items from the list, quantity for each item, etc.Prints that order for the business owner.
I have installed Fedora 13 on my system, that went smooth. After restart when I see the License, User creation screen, my normal MS usb Mouse and a MS Keyboard wont work. I have a IR remote which i use to control music >>> image attached. The mouse and kbd on this remote do work. What might be the reason?
I recently installed Fodora 14 on a PC with Asus mainboard. CPU is AMD LE-1100. The sound card is Realtek ALC662-GR Azalia High Definition Audio Unfortunately after installation, there is no sound. In fedora, System->Preferences->Sound window, Hardware tab is empty.
I tried to install two versions of sound card driver. One came from the CD of the mainboard called realtek-linux-audiopack-4.06x First I tried to run the "install", it went through to the final GUI stage searching for the sound card but failed to find. Then I tried to do a manual install following the readme file. Basically, unpack->configure->make but make failed with the following error message
make[1]: Entering directory '/home/user/00Sound/realtek-linux-audiopack-4.06x/alsa-driver-1.0.14rc3-4.06x/acore' ..... /lib/modules/2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686/build/include/linux/types.h:4:23: fatal error: asm/types.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. make[1]: *** [memalloc.o] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/user/00Sound/realtek-linux-audiopack-4.06x/alsa-driver-1.0.14rc3-4.06x/acore' make: *** [compile] Error 1
Later I tried to download another version of the driver from Realtek website realtek-linux-audiopack-5.15 make also failed but with a different error: make -C /lib/modules/2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686/source SUBDIRS=/home/user/00Sound/realtek-linux-audiopack-5.15/alsa-driver-1.0.23 CPP="gcc -E" CC="gcc" modules ..... make: *** [compile] Error 2
I'm trying to get multiple numeric valued version information into a variable, all on the same line. I want for example $VERSION=3.1.0.01.002. I'm trying to pull seperate values from the file named version.properties, wherein the file contains;
I end up with the value of .002 ?? Seems like it's only getting the last portion because if I run the script thru "bash -x" I get: ... + VERSION=$'3 .1 .0 .01 .002 ' + echo $'3 .1 .0 .01 .002 ' .002
I have installed F10 x86_64 on my laptop with the intent of having a few VM guests under qemu/kvm to run test machines for my code while at a week long class. At home, hard wired to the LAN, my DomU's connect the internet just fine. Perhaps not exactly the way i want, but it worked. Now I am at the class and I've had to connect via wireless network. My DomUs CAN resolve URLs to IPs, but I cannot connect to the web to view any basic web pages.
Attached are screeshots showing my #ifconfig and #route
Basically I've just set up a very basic network connecting my vista laptop to fedora 10 laptop via ethernet. I download from the fedora box to an external hd which I can access from both computers. So, my question is, is it possible to have the same video play on both machines, in sync?
I just recently acquired a PII 333 w/ 160M ram (I know, grossly underpowered for anything by today's standards) but mostly wanted it for internet & to use for printer / scanner & camera stuff. So, while checking it out I tried a few live cd's on it (fedora 10 & a ham version of puppy linux) the puppy worked just fine but the fedora "puked" when it got to the GUI (I had this happen with F11 on another computer) The thing that confuses me is, doesn't fedora's live cd have a basic, generic (like a vga 640 x 480) driver that SHOULD work with any video card & monitor or am I missing something here?
I am looking for a basic online expense tracking system that is:Web-based. Runs on LAMP, etc.Stable, reliable, etc.Open source. The end-user uses a web browser to enter the date of each expense, amount, vendor, etc.Print a periodic report and hand it over to the acccountant.
I'm taking here about tins of directories, thousands of files. I'm looking to find a command that makes me able to move the results above to another path, and to create that path once it doesn't exist like below:
Java applet not loading image with relative path(e.g. images/1.jpg) but loads image with absolute path(i.e. from /root/user/images/1.jpg) . This is a problem when i want to host the applet on web server
