Red Hat / Fedora :: Enabling Mousepad Tapping?

Jan 10, 2010

I recently switched to Fedora from Debian (Fedora 12 LXDE Spin), and the one thing that bothers me is that I can't find a way to enable tapping on the mousepad to click. So far the solutions I've found have included editing the xorg.conf, which, to my understanding, is no longer included in the Fedora kernel.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Enabling Touchpad Tapping (synaptics) - Why Disabled By Default

Aug 24, 2010

To all those who hit this after installing 11.3: Enable the tapping function of your touch pad by adding Option "TapButton1" "1" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-synaptics.conf. then restart X (relogin). It will work with all WMs for which SuSE didn't bother to add a GUI config function/utility (xfce, WMaker, twm/fvwm, etc).

To SuSE: WHY? Why is this disabled by default? Why has a system/HW function to be enabled at WM level?? Why only KDE/Gnome?

Debian :: Change Indent Size In Mousepad?

Sep 27, 2010

I really enjoy using Mousepad for my programming. A lot of you might stare at me for a second, but I really do like it. I do use Medit from time to time for it's tabbed interface and syntax highlighting. I know Mousepad doesn't have syntax highlighting but I figure if I know how to program without relying on the colors, then I can understand the structure and dynamics of a programming language's syntax.how can I change the indent size on Mousepad? It seems to be at 8 and that seems like too much of an indent. When I have to go over to my Windows machine, my indent size is 4 there on Notepad++, as is Medit here on Linux.

Ubuntu Installation :: Mousepad Not Working In LiveCD?

Mar 6, 2011

I recently purchased a new Sony Vaio laptop for my sister and convinced her to try Ubuntu. I am now trying to install Ubuntu 10.10, alongside pre-installed Windows 7.I am installing through the Live CD. When I boot using the live cd, it takes me to the ubuntu desktop as usual but the mousepad is not working at all. I used keyboard to navigate and click the install Ubuntu icon. However in the step where you are required to specify partitions, I can not specify the size ofifferent partitions ad the mouespad is not working and hence, I can not use the slider. How should I now proceed with installation. Could it be some driver related issues. If Ubuntu was installed, I could have installed drivers or tried solutions as suggested in some other threads (changing some config files etc.). But how to proceed in Live CD.

Slackware :: Mousepad Patch Available For Find Button?

Mousepad in xfce seems to have a problem when compiled with the latest libraries. In Slackware Current (13.1 RC1?) the "Find" button stays disabled the SECOND time you try to do a "find". Because of this, you can only do one "find" without closing Mousepad and opening it again.I found a bug report for this problem in a forumr a different distribution:[URL]I have applied this patch to the current xfce source code on my local machine and it seemed to solve the problem. It would be nice if this patch could make its way into the 13.1 release.

I have googled things about fixes and I'm a beginner, so some of the things were too advanced for me and others didn't work. with this so I can have the best experience I can with the operating system.

Fedora Servers :: Enabling Sqlite In 12?

Feb 4, 2010

I'm having a bit of trouble with a web server running Fedora 12. Apache works fine, and serves up php content without a hitch. My problem is SQLite -- I thought that it was built into php5, but support is disabled in the repo version. phpinfo shows this as part of the configure command:

Code:
'--without-sqlite' ... '--disable-pdo' ... '--without-sqlite3'

The only solution I've read anywhere is "compile php from source," but I'd like to avoid that if possible, for ease of future upgrades. Is there a way to convince php to use sqlite despite its current state?

Fedora :: Permanently Enabling Repos ?

Feb 4, 2010

I have various repos in my yum.repos.d including rawhide, google, and various others which I can enable on specific yum commands with --enablerepo=reponame.

Question is, how come these aren't enabled by default? When I do a yum repolist they don't show up, which effectively leaves orphan programs.

I can see why you might not want rawhide enabled by default for obvious update reasons, but I might want others to be enabled by default, like google for one.

So how is the default repo anabling/disabling controlled?

Slackware :: Set Mouse Tapping To Off?

May 8, 2011

I got a netbook and I'd like to know how I can fix something that is annoying the heck out of me.

1- How can I set mouse tapping to off? I have searched and all the threads I could find were related to the use of the synaptics driver. However, synclient accuses no synaptics driver being loaded and it is as far as I can tell a PS/2 mouse. kcm_touchpad also is completely grayed out. I think I'll have to write a mouse.conf to place in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ but I have no idea what to put there.

Debian Hardware :: Disabling Scroll Wheel On Mousepad On HP Pavilion Laptop

Aug 28, 2014

I have a HP Pavilion Dv71245dx Laptop running Debian Wheezy, which has been alright so far except for the mouse wheel built into the right side of the touch mousepad. It's positioned in such a way that makes my thumb hit it all the time by accident while typing, and it's been a total nightmare. I would just like to disable the scroll wheel feature on this mousepad entirely, but I would like to do so in such a way that I can still use the scroll wheel on my USB mouse whenever I have that plugged in.

Fedora :: Enabling Keyboard During F11 Live USB Boot?

Aug 23, 2009

Back during the early days of live usb drives (F9) before persistent overlays were not ready for prime time, I created an approach to do persistence by injecting a special rc.local file into my custom live usb spin. This script mounts a file containing an encrypted ext3 filesystem using losetup which prompts for a password.

This scheme worked well for F9 and F10 but is now broken for F11 because the keyboard is not enabled at the time rc.local is executed. Obviously, all the work done to F11 for speeding up the boot time and moving the boot to the first console has broken my approach.

Fedora :: Enabling X11 Bitmap Fonts In GTK Applications?

May 29, 2010

I'm having difficulty enabling X11 bitmap fonts for GTK apps in F13. From all I've read on this forum and elsewhere on the Internet, this normally just requires symlinking 70-yes-bitmaps.conf into /etc/fonts/conf.d, but I can't get this to work properly.

X11 bitmap fonts are available to X11. I have them working in xterms, but no GTK applications.

What I've tried so far:

- Symlinked /etc/fonts/conf.avail/70-yes-bitmaps.conf to /etc/fonts/conf.d

Manually added font path to xorg.conf to force it to be picked up:

Code:
Section "Files"
FontPath "/usr/share/X11/fonts/misc"
EndSection
/usr/share/X11/fonts/misc is symlinked in /etc/X11/fontpath.d

[Code]....

Fedora :: HPLIP Install - Enabling Network Printing?

Nov 30, 2009

In short, attached a terminal screenshot of me trying to install hplip. Why hplip-3.9.10.run doesn't recognize the fact that gcc has already been installed? In detail: I have HP PSC 1210 connected to a Windoze XP machine. I want to enable network printing, but the only printer showing up standard in the F12 drivers is the HP PSC 1200. When I use that one, I reach the printer, and the Windoze printer queue, but no matter how long I wait, nothing ever comes out of the printer. It'll start moving like "I'm about to print!" but then does nothing. So through the hp-opensource website I determined which driver I want, and get a long way into installing the file. It hangs up on the attached screenshot.
