Programming :: What Is Static Inline Void Tvec_base
Aug 27, 2010
I was going through a file known as linux-2.6.34/kernel/timer.c and found following code.
static inline void
timer_set_base(struct timer_list *timer, struct tvec_base *new_base)
{
timer->base = (struct tvec_base *)((unsigned long)(new_base) |
tbase_get_deferrable(timer->base));
}
I want to understand what is it doing. What is the meaning of static inline in above? I searched and came across

I have written a small character driver, in the cleanup module at the line
int a=unregister_chrdev(Major,DEVICE_NAME);
I am getting the following error
error: void value not ignored as it ought to be
If the value return by unregister_chrdev() function is not stored in any variable it is working fine...

Is it good to set a recursive function as inline? I would think it would increase the performance speed of the program.

I have a problem with correctly using a void pointer. I am writing a system that can open plugins and run them, and so far everything is going fine: I have a struct with some variables in, some function pointers, and I've written a small library to handle these correctly to communicate with the plugin. My challenge is that I need to put a pointer (let's call it "context") into this struct. The type is not important to the main body of code, and it is not ever used except by the plugin. The plugin will malloc some space for itself, and this *context will then point to whatever malloc returned. context is the address to a struct that I typedeffed to "ctxt".
Here is the first struct I mentioned:
Code:
typedef struct slave {
int val1;
int val2;
int (*entry)(struct slave*, int a, int b);
void *context;
} target;
Here are some snippets from the plugin:
Code:
typedef struct context {
int a;
int b;
} ctxt;
(*target).context = malloc(sizeof(struct ctxt));
So that (*target).*(ctxt)*context.a should refer to the int a in struct context.
But the error that the compiler gives me is a syntax one:
"expected identifier before '*' token"
Is my logic correct? Is my C correct?

It's good that GCC support intel inline disassembly syntax, but it cannot even simply address local variables/parameters properly, making itself stupid and essentially useless, look at the following:
int myfunc(float f){
int x;
float fa[8];
asm(".intel_syntax noprefix
"
"mov eax, [x]

So, DnD is cool - and in Java, it works. Just set the component where the drag starts to allow that:
Quote: tblMain.setDragEnabled(true);
and - yes - the rest pretty much runs itself. I have a JTextField that happily takes the drop from the JTable (be it the whole row - I'm not there yet, still working on that)...but does not raise any events. I'd like the JTextField to raise an event:
- cleaning up the received data, now it gets the raw stuff, and I need an ID from that string
- starting up another void() with the received ID
I read the tutorials but - for blisters - cannot see the "light", please shed some (light, that is)

I'm testing HTML5 for the first time, using Firefox (beta) 4.0b8 and SeaMonkey (beta) 2.1b1, and its ignoring some CSS. Specifically, I have problems with the <details> tag. (It is nested in a paragraph...I am using it to provide an in-paragraph definition in hopes it can be toggled.)
Firefox only partly supports <details>. It's not supposed to show anything except the content of <summary>, unless you click on <summary>'s content. Instead, it puts a line break before the content of <details>, splitting the paragraph in two peices (which looks silly), without the "closed/open" functionality.
So I tried using "display:inline" in my CSS, but that gets ignored. Just for fun, I also tried "display:hidden" (also ignored) and "display:none" (obeyed).
SeaMonkey doesn't doesn't do anything special with the content of <display>...but it also ignores the same CSS as Firefox.
The only thing I can do to support semantic design is apply "font-style:italic" to all <details> elements.
Granted, you might ask, "why bother using <details> at all. then?" Well, I would like to have <details> for the browsers that support it, with the "font-style:italic" to degrade the page nicely for those that don't (such as for SeaMonkey).
Does anyone know why "display:inline" and "display:hidden" get ignored?

I am running opensuse11.4. When trying to forward emails I can only do so as attachment. When I click and hold to select the forward inline option I get an empty email - same as if I would have clicked new. The same happens when I place the inline button on to the toolbar. Is this a bug with Kmail or is there another setting to forward mail inline?

I am running a Cron job which mails the content of a log report every day. The problem is that the contents are sent as an attachment instead of as the body of the email. The strange thing is that if I run the instructions from the command line everything works fine, but if I do so from the Cron job the log report is attached instead of being sent inline.
The instruction I use is:
Code:
mail -s "logfile for cron" cron@example.com </var/log/cron-log
Following some advice I read on a blog I also tried this instruction in my Cron file, but the result is the same: it works fine from the command line, but attaches the report when run from Cron:
Code:
echo "Content-Type: text/plain;" | mail -s "logfile for cron" cron@example.com </var/log/cron-log
How to ensure the content of the log file is inline?

I can insert an image inline with mutt by using attach, then using ctl+d to make the image appear inline. However, it appears below my signature. If anyone knows of a way to make the image appear above the signature, I'd be grateful for their input. (This is with mutt 1.5.21--usually sent from a Fedora 14 machine, but I haven't found the behavior to change with the platform.)
Unfortunately, it's necessary to do this at work, for a particular daily email. The workaround is to use Thunderbird for this particular email, but I'd much prefer to use mutt.

i've got certain functions now declared as static and their being used as pointers. So, moving on I then added a variable which so happened to be used in both static and non static functions. Here's some testbed code, the variable in question is 'window':
Code:
//g++ -Wall -I/usr/include/ -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lX11 -lXi -lXmu -lglut -lGL -lGLU -lm main.cpp -o run
#include <GL/glut.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
[Code]....
In short, I can't see the point of using a class to wrap all of this. Never having been taught programming i'm unsure as to the best method for structuring an application like this. Should (would you design) this initial section be a class?

My project looks like this:
Home
The Team [no-page]

-Z
Projects [no-page]
-Coding [no-page]
--A
--B
--C
-Desing [no-page]
--E
--F
-Security [no-page]
--G
--H
Note: the Code/Design/Security projects pages (A,B,C,D...) will be at start around 35 pages, and will grow. My index.php is something like this:
PHP Code: .....
What I would like to know is how to build the content (the home-main.php)? Do it dynamically based on a link something like this index.php?page=coding_b, and put in the index.php page a number of 35 if/else statements to cover all the project pages or ... static, creating every page for the projects menu when I create the menu? I check if a page 'pro-co-a.php' exists, if not I create it based on some template and do the query to get the content from db or? How to organize the pages, if using static page?

The code below defines an array of structures in a class. I would like this to be a Static array and then initialize the array in a initialization method. I understand that initialization lists are the way to go but due to the size and complexity of the array I plan on using (the example below is a simple snippet that illustrates the problem) I would like to use the initialization method. However, I cant even get this thing to compile. The error says the reference to the ArrayOfStructs in the initialization routine is undefined.

P.S. This is the error message

I have been working on this for a long time.
I could get the static libcurl library ( a "libcurl.lib" file and a "curl.h" file), which supposed to be working under Windows.
Yet I tried Visual c++ 6.0 but it wasn't working at all.
Some idea on that ? I don't mind to try MinGW and Dev C++ if it will really work. (Cygwin is not good since it require client to have cygwin.dll in run-time folder).

I am currently looking for tools for static/dynamic code analysis for embedded Linux system development (both device driver and user space apps). We will use Eclipse IDE and C++ lanuage. I hope the tools are easy-to-use, reliable, popular, better with good supports, and not-too-expensive. I already find a list of tools at WiKi, however, I don't have time to try them all. Could anyboy please recommend me a few? If you can tell me briefly about their pros and cons, that will be the bet.
