What is the code snippet required to get an image to repeat vertically up a page? I can only find info relating to repeating *background* images in my search attempts, and this is just a regular image file which I want to repeat over the pre-existing page background. I'd like it to repeat all the way up the extreme left hand edge of the page. Say the image is called abd.jpg and is in the same folder as the index.html.
View 14 RepliesI'm dual booting with Win Xp at the moment and have been google-ing and tinkering about with my distro and i'm learning new stuff everyday but I have a question about something that's been bothering me. I think i've figured out that the / partition is similar to the C: Drive in windows which contains program files n stuff am i right? and the home partition which contains users and their files is an offshoot of the root?
So if this is the case, i was in the expert partitioner in YAST to see how the the drive was partitioned and was wondering if the / partition was too big and if i could decrease the size and add it to the /home?. My sys specs are 512mb RAM Dell Dimension 3000 with an 80GB HDD 2.8Ghz Intel Celeron. I also have a 80Gb and 160Gb External laptop drives mainly for my movies n music n stuff. Also is the Swap partition a good size for the spec of computer i have?

Is there a serious community of Objective-C developers outside of apple? I've been doing a fair amount of objective-c programming for iPhone and am wondering what the community is like outside of apple. I am aware of gnustep for linux. Are there objective-c libraries for Windows as well? What is the cross-platform status of objective-c? Are there many open-source projects being developed using objective-c?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to monitor the amount of free physical memory on Linux from within a large C program. The sampling will occur very frequently, so the measurement cannot be performance intensive. The fact that Linux uses much of the theoretically free memory for cache and buffers means that just measuring the free pages is not sufficient. Using free + cache + buffers gives an overestimate as not all cache/buffers can be freed, but I could get a rough idea of how much generally can't and subtract that from the answer.
Possible options that I've come across so far are: Parsing /proc/meminfo - but that involves reading from file which is slow. Extracting the free, cache and buffers values from the output of the Free command - but is there a quick way to do this? Parsing the /proc/freemem file produced by the API here - but this is again reading from file. Is there a way to get that output directly? Speed is an extremely high priority, and the answer it must accurately represent the amount of memory that my program could expand into (to within a few Mb).
I am trying to construct a quick regex that will search for six lines of text without a clear line break between them. It only needs to search, not replace, as I will be using in gEdit (with regex plugin) anyway.

There is a protocol in use - for example when I use Firefox to do a query through Google - as I type into the search field the browser sends my characters - one at a time - to the server. As I recall, at one time I found the specification but I'm pulling a blank. As I recall it does a POST of each character as I enter it, and the server responds before I have entered a <CR>. I want to write a client side program that uses that protocol and need to see the spec.

I have a simple bit of html code which is going to be used as the searching facility. I want the user to be able to enter their ID and then it will display only their results. At the moment, it is displaying the results for EVERY student because I cant seem to find the correct syntax for my statement.

I am querying a single string column in a table. The string values have spaces in them. I want to loop over each value in bash. I set IFS to split lists on newlines instead of spaces. When I try this, it is splitting the list of results on the actual character 'n', not the newline ''.

If I have a Query that returns columns where some of the values are NULL, is it possible to tell SQL to return all the NULL values as empty strings instead of the NULL datatype?

I am not sure if this is possible. I have IP's stored in a mysql database. When I query the database, it returns the IP. I would like to replace the IP with something else prior to displaying the results. Is it possible even though I have not stored it in the database?

So I've got a rather vast database, one of the columns is date in the following format: DD/MM/YY HH:MM:SS. This is starting to cause problems with a php page I'm writing which asks the user for a 'start date'. Would it be better for me to split the date column into date and say time? Or is there a way of using distinct and masking the times.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOK I have multiple developers on a system and I have setup a area on the web server where they all should have access to and all that fun stuff. Now I do not want to setup these developers default group to be this single group cause they could be members of multiple groups...
IE:
/var/www/cust1 - Group Cust1
/var/www/cust2 - Group Cust2
etc...
Then say for the developers:
dev1 - member of Cust1 & Cust2 - Default group is dev1
dev2 - member of Cust2 - Default group is dev2
dev3 - member of Cust1 - Default group is dev3
So when they go into say /var/www/cust1 only dev1 & dev3 should have access to modify files and when they create/edit files the owner should be the user and the group I want it to be Cust1. Then when going to say the Cust2 area new files and stuff have Cust2 group access with RWX.
Is this possible for users to just use their normal accounts, or will I need to look are setting up "project" accounts where they can su into say dev1cust1 account which will have the default group of Cust1?

I am trying to build minimal php and mysql binaries. While doing so, I realize that there is no documentaries to state whether does compiling straight from the source without any configurations options set, ensure an optimized yet minimal build? I am trying out for my own personal website which will be powered by Wordpress 3. The previous method I used was using the package manager: "apt-get install php-cgi php5-cgi php5-cli php5-mysql mysqld mysql-server mysql mysql-client". I am trying out to mimic the binaries installed by the package manager through building from the sources instead. How do I know what configuration options did those repositories developers used? Is there any special configuration options used for those minimal yet optimized binaries? Does doing the following ensure a minimal build?:
1) ./configure
2) make
3) install
I figured since I did not use any configuration options, therefore it should be a minimal build right (Meaning the bare-bones)?
