Programming :: How To Find Array Length In C

Jul 3, 2011

I would like to know how can I find array length in C .I have array of structure and I want to sent it to different functions and I want to have it's length (number of elements) each time I want to use it and I don't like to use any additional variable to pass the function for each of arrays that I pass to function.
How can I do that?

Programming :: Calculate Length Of My Array?

Jun 30, 2010

I want to calculate length of my array, say Unix here.

Code:
[linux1@HMLINUX1 abc]$ declare -a Unix=('Debian' 'Red Hat' 'Suse' 'Fedora');
[linux1@HMLINUX1 abc]$
[linux1@HMLINUX1 abc]$ echo ${#Unix[@]}
5

This should be ideally 4, but somehow it is showing as 5. However, when I am removing the space as RedHat instead of Red Hat, it is working perfectly.

Code:
[linux1@HMLINUX1 abc]$ declare -a Unix=('Debian' 'Redhat' 'Suse' 'Fedora');
[linux1@HMLINUX1 abc]$ echo ${#names[@]}

Programming :: Directory Record Length Is Variable In Ext2 Filesystem?

Jan 7, 2011

The declaration for directory record length in ext2 filesystem is as follows:

Code:
#define EXT2_NAME_LEN 255
struct ext2_dir_entry_2 {
__u32 inode; /* Inode number */
__u16 rec_len; /* Directory entry length */
__u8 name_len; /* Name length */
__u8 file_type;
char name[EXT2_NAME_LEN]; /* File name */
};

Some say because the record is not in a fixed length so rec_len is the real record length. Why is the length of the array `name' not fixed? I thought C arrays like this should be fixed length. C99 has variable-length arrays, does this structure count on C99?

Programming :: Get A Variable To Work As The Index Of An Array?

May 3, 2010

I am having a little trouble with a Bash shell script that I am working on. It is intended to read the information out of a gedcom genealogy file and determine who has lived in a particular area and output a report based upon who lived in a given area (like the different sections of a bygdebok for example). I am having a number of issues.

1) I can't seem to figure out how to get a variable to work as the index of an array. For example, I am trying to use the variable $individual to count which individual is being read in from the .ged file, and once that is figured out, next I will read in the individual's name, so I would like to create an array of names using the variable

Code:
$individual
as the index of the array. However, if I try the code
Code:
name[$individual]=$lineoftext;

[Code]....

I included only the last few lines of output as to not take up too much space because the output goes on forever, but you get the point from the example. This output has nothing to do with what the final output of the program is intended to be like. It is merely a test to prove that the 2 variables in question are getting their date loaded in properly.

Programming :: Copying An Array Of Structs To New Variable?

Jun 27, 2011

I had a question about threads and mutexes recently answered and a members' answer sparked a different problem.'Nominal Animal' in the post mentioned said I should hold a mutex only long enough to copy my data to a temporary variable and then output by reading that temp. Here's some code on this. I must be copying the array of structs wrong because when the gui thread reads the temp copy, I end up with lots of garbage. Even running through gdb verifies that different data is in the temp array-copy than in the original.How do I go about copying this array of structs to another variable correctly in the gui thread?

Code:
typedef struct
{

General :: Implementing A Variable-length List Of Keywords In Mysql?

Sep 20, 2010

I'm having a hard time googling for answers because I keep using the word "keyword."

I've never really used any kind of database before, but I want to learn the basics, so I'm playing with it a little bit at work. What I want to do is make a database to hold information on various articles. For example, with columns for the title, author, and date. Those are all easy. The tricky part is that I'd also like to be able to label articles with keywords so I can search for certain topics.

Since there's no way to know ahead of time how many keywords, if any, each article might warrant, I'm not sure how to put this in database form. There's no variable-sized array data type. It seems sloppy to just list them all in a single VARCHAR column. Making several columns that may or may not be left null and putting one keyword in each seems wasteful.

Debian Multimedia :: Wine Forbids Any MS Office Software In Squeeze 32 Bit

Mar 6, 2011

I am currently using Squeeze 32 bit with both gnome and KDE desktops. I have a legitimate office disk, and wanted to use MS word for work due to formatting glitches in Open Office. However squeeze says the disk is corrupt and refuses to progress. This is not so as the same disk works fine in aptosid and Kubuntu. So wine is not very useful in Squeeze whilst it behaves like this. After all it is I suspect it at least should be able to install MS word, though of course no updates are given by MS as it hates wine. Both Gnome and KDE gave the same results, as user or root. I wonder if anything else can be done to Wine to make it work. Perhaps it is something to do with the "free" kernel, I only speculate. Otherwise Squeeze is going very well.
