what the best free linux graphic design interface was? Possibly one from the ubuntu one software center. I tried boa constructor and it was glitchy and kept crashing. I want something very easy to use and as simple as possible as i am new to programming. I want something that also supports the major programming languages like python C++, etc and was also wondering where i could go to learn codes for python.
View 4 RepliesI am having an annoying problem with ubuntu 10.04. with SSH, I get connected to a linux server. The command line works well. But I can NOT get a graphic interface from it. For example:

it's said this line is not needed for linux system trying to connet to the server.
i'v installed centos 5.4 on vmware, but their is no graphic interface so i try: yum groupinstall "Gnome Desktop Environement" "X window System" but it says no packages in any requested group available to install or update the commande: yum grouplist gives me Trixboxcore actually avery time i try to do a yum install <package> it returns no package <available>

View 7 Replies View Relatedworking on KDE, I cannot shutdown, reset, logout or switch users through graphical interface (you know, bit blue button, 'leave' tab and all these buttons).I've googled the problem, and here's what I have found:[URL]Guys on the Arch forum related the problem to the OGG files and phonon-xine - indeed, I cannot play OGG files anymore.I tried to install phonon-vlc, but the package is not in any of my repositories. I tried to remove libqt4-phonon, but it would also remove half of the system, which isn't the best idea. Someone else suggested to install speex, but it's already installed on my Kubuntu.I'm out of ideas, and I'm not really sure how to reinstall xine and phonon without deleting half of the system like this:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am a newbie to Jaunty, so please forgive my descrip. terminology. I am experiencing a great amount of grief with my Jaunty install. I can no longer get a login screen in Jaunty. When I try to boot normally for this install I get an unclean shutdown screen & it goes into the "checking drive" mode. I uninstalled some applications such as has to do with touchpad, remote desktop, xorg-driver-fglrx etc. I reinstalled xorg-driver-fglrx, which I later found out that I do not need. I have an AMD64 HP system with ATI graphics onboard.
I need to find out how to load graphic user interface in Jaunty. Some of the necessary files have been completely removed by me & I need to reload the repositories and update my current install.The partition is encrypted but I have been able to login with the username & password for THIS encrypted install using the "repair broken system" part of the GRUB screen.
How do I go into the terminal and load repositories, and maybe the kernel so I can do an update/upgrade? I do not know if upgrade is part of what I need to do I wanna keep my Jaunty install so I can access 50G of data that is on this install. I have made no backup of this data!!!
I am able to login to my install using my username & password after I get to the "#" prompt, (option "fix broken system" in GRUB) so I know login can be done under username of install. I just need to know what to TYPE into the terminal to restore the necessary files in the right place to make it run. (Is it called terminal at that point?)
As a substitute for IDM, for linux this program comes in handy.. I want to know how to get it installed graphically

I want to develop a Web Application to accomplish this task in a more convenient and effective way. Well, you guess, the client should be happy to see how we provide support more effectively...? I want to make it ITIL-Compliant. I (optionally) want to provide the Problem and Change Management facilities within it in a way that the concerned teams and the management can find the KEDB very useful for their work also. I am going to do it entirely in PHP and JavaScript for client-side validations wherever needed.

We are, however, completely new to programming and (x)html. We have a few (what we think are) interesting ideas for dynamic websites.Ideally we would like to develop our own course of study to get to the point where we have a basic understanding of programming so that our adventures in the programming of a dynamic website would be possible. Much of what we need learn to do is the following: use daily updated public-domain data from several other sites, manipulate that data algorithmically, which would then yield updating output on our site. Here is what I would like to do:
1. learn the basics of programming with a language that would teach good code habits and fundamental understanding.
2. become comfortable with (x)html
3. learn another language for the extension of (x)html into a dynamic data-heavy website.
Question could you please suggest a way about going about 1>2>3?Ideally the language of (1) would be something that would not be "wasted" just on web design etc. As a language, C really appeals to me. However, if learning this wouldn't lend itself to being helpful in learning another language for webdesign maybe I shouldn't use it(?).If (1) weren't to be C, what language would be funadmental enough to teach good coding but also be helpful in learning (3)

View 3 Replies View RelatedSelf learner developer since about 2 years, I'm trying to understand deeper how to design a database in the best and most efficient way possible.Reading about UML design, I've found this: Do not automatically add ID numbers(surrogate keys) or substitute keys to a table until you are sure that:
-There is at least one candidate key (before the surrogate is added),
-the table is a parent in at least one association, and
-there is no candidate key small enough for its values to be copied many times into the child table.
Until then, I've always did this (I mean using ID) to identify my rows.So my questions are:
1. Why should we avoid using ID to identify rows?
2. Candidate keys add some weight to our database, and this can huge if we have millions of records, so why should we use these over surrogate keys?
I want to write an application with an interface similar to those used in non-GUI linux installation programs. It is not really a pseudo-graphic. Does anybody knows an appropriate library?

I have an ubuntu PC with 512 MB ram and an 3d graphic card that can normally support Guild Wars on windows xp. I installed the game with Wine an the game opens, I can see my character menu but the problem is none of the 3D graphic parts works, I just see a black screen.I even installed directX.

The reason is so that one of the interfaces has vlan tagging, and I need my UDP packets to be accordingly vlan tagged. For example, one of the interfaces is eth1.200.
The following are the output of command "ifconfig -a":
