Programming :: Bash Script To Check How Much Free Space Is Left In /var Directory

Feb 24, 2011

I'm creating a bash script to check how much free space is left in /var directory then, if it hits a certain threshold, delete certain files with numbers for extensions (e.g. fileA.1, fileA.2 fileA.3, and fileA.4, fileB.1, fileB.2 fileB.3, and fileB.4 ). Here's a snippet from my script:

[Code]...

If I use a * as a wildcard for the number extension, the script fails. Maybe regex would work here, but I'm not particularly accomplished at it. Or some other construct.

Programming :: Check If The User Is In Correct Directory Before Executing Bash Script

Dec 10, 2010

I have been searching for 90 minutes for something that I "think" should be fairly easy. I'm pretty new to Bash Scripting so I could be completely wrong. Then again it may be a weird request to even need something like this. But here it is.I have a script written to convert data from one of our software version to another. The only thing I need to add to it is a "check to make sure the user running the script is in the /tmp directory".

Programming :: Bash Script: Sort Files Into Directory Based On Data In The File Name?

Sep 28, 2010

I have very little linux experience. And need some help with a bash script. I need to a script I can set cron to run to sort files out of a holding folder into final folders. It doesn't necessarily have to be bash, but I think it would be sufficient for this. File names are formatted as such when created: Dest-Date-Time-CID-Destination# I want the files to be moved from a all in one holding folder to a folder structure like this.

.../storage/year/month/day/Destination#/VarX(type)/hour/CID/'File'

I would need an if/else if/else statement to say if Dest = A set VarX = B If for example the file name was

infinity-20100927-17:00-1112223333-4445556666.wav

I would like the above file to end up moved from

.../holding

to

.../storage/2010/09/27/4445556666/Inbound/17/1112223333/infinity-20100927-17:00-1112223333-4445556666.wav

So the script will need to make directories based on information in the file name which is delimited by single dashes. Then move files from the holding folder to the newly created "sorted" folders.

Programming :: BASH - Can't Check If XScreenSaver Is Running

Feb 26, 2011

I'm having trouble trying to make a script. What I want to do is check if xScreenSaver is running in my user account. If not, run it. If it's running, kill it.

So this is the script I've made:

Code:

The problem is that I've echoed the output of $(pgrep -u $(whoami) xscreensaver) and it always seems to add 4 numbers to the pid, even if the pid doesn't exist. What do I mean by "doesn't exist"? That no xscreensaver is running in my user, and if I run pgrep -u $(whoami) xscreensaver in bash, I get not output, but if I run the command though the script, I get (for instance) 4050. If I run it again, I get 4054, and again 4058... etc. What the hell is going on with that?

Programming :: BASH - Script To Check Installed Software?

Apr 1, 2011

I am looking for a little help with a Bash Script. I have just finished a PC GUI application using Pygtk and glade. But, I would like to write a Bash Script to check if the user has the needed software to run my application on his or her computer. For example, the software needed to run my application among others are Python, nmap, and pygtk. Code: which python which nmap With a little bit of research I found:If python or nmap are installed on my computer and I run the above commands, the above code will tell me where it is located. But if python and nmap are not installed and I run the commands, nothing is displayed.

Could I get a few ideas on how I would go about getting a boolean value to determine whether or not the software is installed or not. I would like to use the boolean value in my bash script to perform other actions ie echo "Python is not installed" or actually install Python if the boolean value is false.

Programming :: Check Available Space On A Directory With C++?

Sep 23, 2010

i'm using c++ and Ubuntu and I need to write/copy some files to a directory chosen by the user of my system (the user can save it on any folder of any disk of the pc or other usb device). Before I do it, I need to know if there's space available on the disk. I cannot only check the result of write() function, the validation must be executed before I start to save or copy.

I was trying to use statvsf structure, but I only have the complete filepath (/home/lobinho/myDocs/), not the disk path. The statvfs() function only works with disk path (i.e. /media/KINGSTON ).

The source of my function:

Code:

int result = ERROR;
try {
struct statvfs devData;

Software :: Rkhunter To Check Hashes Of Files In Directory?

Aug 8, 2011

I wanted to write a script which would check the hash-sums of all files within a certain directory and compare them with previous hashes. I remembered that rkhunter does this by default for certain files. So my idea was to use rkhunter for this task. I copied the default configuration file and made some modifications to it. However, I just cannot get it to work. It always just computes the hashes for files in /bin /usr/bin etc. But I would like to also check the files, e.g. in /boot. Is there any way to configure rkhunter to compute and store hashes for *normal* (i.e. non-executable) files?

Programming :: Bash - Compare Directory To Database?

May 23, 2011

I have a (rather large) database of mp3 track information. I also have several directories of the actual mp3s. I'm trying to write a simple bash script that will check the contents of the directories against what's in the database, and upon finding a file that isn't in the database, do something.

Here's what I have so far:

Code:

The trouble I'm having (in the sample directory of "/mnt/music/B/Beatles, The/" the file "Beatles, The - Taxman.mp3" isn't in the database.) is getting it to actually trigger an error when an entry isn't in the database.

Once triggering on a non-entered file is working, any way to get it to traverse the entire /mnt/music hierarchy?

# --exclude "/path/to/dir/*" (Doesn't seem to work)
