Jun 9, 2009I'm in the process of setting up a script in perl to make 1,000's of curl calls to my companies application on our test server. Our software does all sorts of tracking of data based on IP addresses using geoIP, so i was wondering if anyone knew of a way to fake these addresses to the server?I know a big issue with the IP faking is the return path but i dont really need this. I also cant do it on the hardware level since the script is going to be picking lots of different IP's at random.Anyone have any idea if this is possible and if so, are there any known libraries i can use for this? I prefer perl but any Linux compatiblie scripting language is fine.

Ubuntu Servers :: Associate Internal ISS With Website Hosted By Apache?
Apr 18, 2011we have a dual server setup: Windows server 2003 and Ubuntu 10.04 with apache installed with all the goodies. This is all virtualized. What I'm wanting to do, is make the new website we've created run on the Ubuntu machine, which it is, and be accessible outside the office. However, by doing this, we forfeit being able to use remote access or web exchange on Windows server 2003.
How can I create a link from the new website on Apache point to the internal server and it work outside of the office?
General :: Access Internal Network Virtual Hosts In Apache?
Mar 6, 2011I currently have an Apache Web Server running on Ubuntu 10.4 and I use a DynDNS service to make them accessible to the outside world via a domain and/or subdomain.
My configs currently look like this:

This works fine from access outside of the network and all subdomains resolve to the correct directory.
The problem I am having is with accessing a subdomain over my internal network.
I can access the Web Server using the server's IP address: http://192.168.1.123/ but this always takes me to the same virtual host and I don't know how to distinguish between different virtual hosts (different subdomains).
Ideally I would like to access the same subdomains using http://<subdomain>/ where <subdomain> is the same as the subdomain attached to the external domain name.

Apr 20, 2010I'm not sure is this is possible or not, but what I would like to do is take my public address mydomain.com and configure a virtual host something.mydomain.com only instead of having the content on the same server I would like it to point to the IP of my virtual machine that is in my private network and display that page publicly. Does anyone know if this is possible, or how to do it? I have done this with port forwards, but would like them both to be on the same port.

With these settings i can't reach the internal network from inside.If i disable the gateway on eth1 and enable the gateway on eth0, it works.

The site5.abc.com has a requirement to be run at port 8080 internally and it is not a Ubuntu server.(Red Hat based server). While rest all are Ubuntu servers including gateway A.

The goal is to record some statistics/numbers while someone is logged in, pass those numbers to r, run some statistics algorithms on the passed set of data and output an image file back to the logged-in user's html web page.
Doing this along with knowledge on how to call general r functions from within a php framework would be great.

Mar 30, 2010I have an interesting situation. I'd like to use bittorrent for legitimate purposes (mainly linux distro based) but the powers that be have blocked access to bittorrent at my university. I have an ubuntu VPS that I use for odds and ends and was thinking that I could setup a SOCKS5 server on it. That way, I can input the SOCKS5 info directly into the proxy section of my local bittorrent application (Transmission 1.92 running on snow leopard) and be good to go. The problem, however, is that I cannot find a way to get a SOCKS server up and running on my VPS. I've heard that ssh can be used as a simple SOCKS server, but I've also heard that i may need to install a more complete SOCKS server such as dante. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Ubuntu Servers :: Setting Up Secure FTP On Internal Network
Mar 8, 2010I'm running Ubuntu Server 9.10 and I'm looking to setup an FTP server. I have SSH running beautifully and it's accessible from any computer whether it be inside the network or coming in from the internet (provided you have the administrator username and password ). I've tried Proftpd and vsftpd and have failed miserably so far. Which FTP server application do you think I should go with and how could I go about setting it up through my SSH connection?
My current setup is this:
- Ubuntu Server 9.10 with Fixed IP of 192.168.1.100
- 500GB Hard Drive
- SDA1 = 512MB ext2 /boot
- SDA2 = 2GB swap
- SDA3 = 20GB ext4 /
- SDA5 = 438GB ext4 /home
- One User (Username = administrator)
- Full SSH Capabilities
- IP Address to DNS provided by www.dyndns.org
- WRT120N Router with Remote Access and Port 22 Open
I basically want to set up a secure FTP server that anyone on the internal network can access as well as anyone from the internet (as long as they have a username and password). I want to setup a username and password for each user so that they all have read/write access to the same folder in my /home partition (I'll call it FTPSHARE).
Server :: Tunnel Apache Virtual Host To An Internal Apache?
Jan 24, 2010I am upgrading my server and I have a lot of sites. Since I cannot take my server down for a few days, maybe a week until I manage to migrate all the sites to the new machine, I figured I could migrate them one by one. After migrating one, I would somehow tunnel the requests of that name virtual host to my internal machine. When everything is migrated, I would then switch the machines, update ip's and stuff and everything will work just fine.
However I cannot seem to find a way to do this tunneling. is this at all possible? If not, what alternatives do I have?

It has all been working fine until recently when Apache is becoming unresponsive. I manually ran ps to check and there were 3 processes. However when I ran apache2ctl graceful I got the message 'httpd not running, trying to start' Is there a better way to check if a daemon is up?

So on my Ubuntu desktop I would like to install something as simple as possible to be used as a proxy, I've seen squid but does that only handle http requests? Does that handle streaming requests and such as well? This so I can see the source of some media that's being played in flash or pps.tv

Aug 26, 2011I have a little bit of a problem, I run openSUSE as a server on a Dell PowerEdge T610. I use it for sharing files in a local network and as a web server accessible through the public IP (configured through router DMZ). Also, I use Teamviewer for remote control in order to avoid some compatibility and network problems. Generally the computer runs flawless but from time to time, as about once in two weeks, all network related services except the Apache server which runs just fine, and is still accesible, crash. The Samba share can't be accessed anymore, the Teamviewer is also dead and the only way to put everything back in order is a restart. The thing is I don't know if an error occurs since the server hasn't got a monitor installed, and more than that I do most of my work remotely (as in miles and miles away from the location) and it takes me quite some time to actually get there and see what's happening.
So, any ideas what might be happening? I belive that there might be some information in some of the logs, but as I am not an expert in Unix like operating systems I don't exactly know where to start from.

Some of the machines( we have no information regarding their ip, name and no physical access to the servers) in the network are connected to internet and they run an http proxy at some port say 3128. Is there a program which can be run on Windows or Linux which will give me the list of machines(ip addresses and ports if possible) acting as proxy servers?

Jan 6, 2009I've tried, but now I give up. I'm trying to run Apache on FC9. Nothing fancy, no extras, just the default installed apache. [correction, I have coldfusion installed, however the service is not running] I've set the Listen variable to every combination I could think of, with no success. I can set it whatever I like (such as my local IP) on any port other than port 80. If I try to set it to 192.168.x.x:80, it gives me the error message:
Starting httpd: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 192.168.x.x:80
I've run netstat commands to try and find applications listening on port 80 and found nothing. Whenever I chose a port other than 80 to get the service to start successfully, I am able to serve pages locally. But even with my ports forwarded correctly, no one outside the local network can see it. I've checked with nmap that my machine is opening the ports and even cheated, disabling the firewall during testing to ensure it was not part of the problem.
I noticed while locally nmaping my server that whenever I set Listen 192.168.x.x:8081, 8081 is opened, as well as normal port 80. When I stop the httpd service, both those ports are simultaneously closed. Why is httpd opening port 80? I'm assuming this is related to why I cannot assign Listen to port 80. If I run remote scans from sites like www.nmap-online.com and www.canyouseeme.org, nmap-online will report filtered on ports 80 and 8081 if my httpd is running, and if httpd stopped, 80 is closed, filtered 8081.
Can you seem reports success on ports 80 and 8081 if httpd is running, fail if httpd is stopped. I'm sure thats all a lot of information cluttered in to all that. To summarize, I cannot start my httpd server on port 80, and I cannot ever see my webpages beyond my local network. Am I missing something extremely is simple and I'm just over looking it?
Fedora Servers :: Apache On Local Network Does Not Work
May 23, 2010The situation is this, I have one of those router cable/wifi. So I have the main pc plugged to the router, the router give local ip for all my network (the others computers connects via wi-fi). Main pc starts up apache under Fedora 12, http://localhost.. works, http://127.0.0.1.. works, http://192.168.0.13 (my local ip) works. But when I try to connect to http://192.168.0.13 from another pc of my local network, it doesn't work. The others pcs are running windows vista.
I go another computers ping 192.168.0.13, responds!
From the main computer ping 192.168.0.14, responds!
So, there is communication between the machines, but I cant get to work under apache. I tried opening port 80 with iptables, i tried changing apache's port to another.

Does anyone know what this process does? I tried to find it online but didn't find anything. Also, I tried to find the binary on the server but find doesn't return anything. I would like to have it so they can access by the name of my computer though. I have no local DNS server so I guess I need to hard code the relationship in each machine? Ideally I'd actually like to be able to use subdomains (which I use locally to avoid annoying .htaccess path problems). i.e. from another machine on the network to go to [URL].
