Firefox 3.0 falls out of support at the end of the month and after 3.0.19 there will be no more security fixes. what is happening with 11.1 and firefox 3.0. Are 11.1 users going to be left without any security fixes for firefox?
View 9 RepliesI am running Fedora 14 with KDE on my IBM T60p Thinkpad laptop. The wireless network adapter is Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. The wireless network uses WPA2 with AES encryption.
Until yesterday my wireless worked fine. I originally installed wlassistant and it enabled my Network Manager to work with WPA2. My XP on the same machine still works on wireless without any issues, so both the adapter hardware and the router are eliminated as sources of the problem.
Yesterday I booted up my Linux and noticed there were 20+ security updates and I installed them all. It asked me to logoff and log back in. I did, and since then my wireless is dead as a doorknob. When the wireless adapter initializes it prompts me for the WPA2 password, however the password is visible in the password field. I click to accept it but it cant connect. Network manager just sits there waiting for authentication and nothing happens. The wpa_supplicant service is disabled, however I honestly cant remember if it was enabled before, considering that I use wlassistant. If I enable it, still nothing happens.
Anyway, thinking that the security updates possibly broke wlassistant, I uninstalled it and installed the latest version. The old version was 12, the new one is 13. It makes no difference though.I always use my laptop on wireless, therefore I am dead in the water.
Its really frustrating how something always breaks on this OS. It resembles a leaky boat that always has at least one hole. By the time I plug it another one appears, so I spend 90% of my Linux time fixing problems and have the remaining 10% for work and play. Windows and Mac work out of the box and apparently thats what 99% of users want, hence the 1% market share
Anyway, sorry about this, however losing my network connectivity from installing security updates really ticked me off. Its pretty unacceptable. Anyone has any ideas which recent fixes may be to blame? I am sure it didnt only happen to me.
Is there some blog, changelog, or place where i can track what issues get fixed in the opensuse gnome 3 implementation, or what features are bein added, what changes are bein made, etc.?For example, if there is some bug in opensuse with gnome 3, where can i read that it has been fixed in the dd/mm update, or that new feature xxxyyy was added in dd/mm update, etc.Im talking about issues, fixes, updates related to gnome 3 with opensuse. Not just opensuse with 2xgnome or kde.

The monitor configuration app always want the primary monitor to be on the left hand side, thus it always extend my desktop right. Can I do anything to extend my desktop to the left instead of to the right so I can have background application on the screen to the left?
View 8 Replies View RelatedUpon logging into kde 4.4 the left mouse button (3 button usb mouse) becomes unresponsive on certain windows. For instance the toolbar may still respond to left-click while other windows on the desktop do not register it. However more and more windows/panels become unresponsive rather quickly. The same happens for right-click sometimes but far less often. Some functionality can be recovered by re-plugging the mouse.
Logging out and logging back in solves the problem until the next reboot. I have tried different users and wiping the .kde and .kde4 folders. The problem persists. I can stil work by relogging every time I turn on my computer but it does waste a lot of time so if there are any ideas I'd apreciate it. KDE 4.4 release 3 (There seems to be no updates in YAST available)
We are trying to set up a classroom training environment where our SIG can hold classes for prospective converts from Microsoft/Mac. The ten machines will have /home/student01..10 and /home/linsig01..10 as users. We want /home/student01 to be able to explore and sudo so they can learn to administer their personal machines at home. We don't want them to be able to modify (sudo) /home/linsig01. I've seen the tutorial on Access Control Lists but I'd like other input so we get it right the first time.

Now, my question is this. Are the 'users' it refers to just those created on this machine? Would a drive-by be able to use my network without entering the password?

We have been satisfied to this point with a netapp serving nfs/cifs and keeping a tight reign on nfs exports.Some of these projects have started asking us to provide access restricted sub-folders of the project space based on different groups that contain a user subset of the primary group.
We have a linux machine that serves as a version control front end to the netapp, mounting the project spaces via nfs. People are now mounting their project space via sshfs to this "front end" and sharing the root password of this sshfs client with everyone in their project, in turn creating a security hole to access the so called restricted sub-folders. I know all the obligatory responses referring to irresponsible user behavior but would like to see how others have addressed something like this where user behavior seems out of control.
I have no firefox icon in the top left, just a black space. It works when I click on it but when I right click for properties it shows "no icon". Anyone know how I can add the icon?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two computers running Ubuntu Gnome with Firefox. Upgrades yesterday (18 February 2010) at about 1430 MDT hours (UTC 2130 hours) broke Firefox on both machines. Firefox is present in the menu, and in /usr/bin/firefox, but it will not launch, not even from the command line. I have tried "sudo apt-get remove firefox" followed by "sudo apt-get install firefox" but the problem persists. When attempting to launch firefox, it does give me a tiny brown spot at the upper-left side of the screen. This can be expanded by dragging so that it is a full screen, labeled "Firefox" but there is no content in the screen...only blank space.

To my surprise, when I create new users with my openSUSE 11.4, they are all assigned to the 'users' shared group by default.To test this, I created a new user called 'friends'. From my terminal, I can see how the new user files look like:

View 5 Replies View RelatedFirefox 3.5 has a critical java script vulnerability as noted in the recent news. I had to manually update to 3.5.1 using the mozilla tarball because there's still no Firefox 3.5.1 in Fedora Updates or even Fedora Updates Testing repositories. Is this normal? I didn't want to resort to using the mozilla one because now I can't use flash (my system is 64 bit and mozilla only seems to offer a 32bit tar file of Firefox) and having two Firefoxs means dealing with the ProfileManager, separate bookmarks and so on.
I'm trying to find out if I'm just looking in the wrong place, I tried the normal mirrors for "updates" for Fedora 11 and then updates-testing and also the baseurl for "updates" to get rid of the mirror update delay. None of them seem to have 3.5.1 ?
Does anyone know when we'll see Firefox 3.0.19 packaged for 8.04 LTS? I'm still stuck at 3.0.18. And what will happen after this? My understanding is that after .19 Mozilla is dropping support for FF 3.0.
Upgrade policies not withstanding, I find it rather annoying when an "LTS" release doesn't keep up with the most security-critical package in the distro, the browser. 8.04 LTS should have moved to FF 3.5+ a *long* time ago. Now it seems it will be forced to do so or else just forget about browser updates for the last year of 8.04?

I recently ran out of space with my free 2 GB U1 account. So I upgraded to a 20 GB pack.This was shortly after upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10, during which I changed the name of my computer from 'Rain' to 'El-Mustango'. Don't ask.Anyway, in the process of upgrading U1 to 20 GB, I noticed the machine I had connected on the website was still called Rain. So without really thinking, I removed it.Now I can't get U1 to sync. If it tries at all, it tells me that I've got no free space. And when I say "it tells me", I mean "someone should fix the bug where it pops up a notification for every single file it tries to sync".I've gone through every fix I can find online. Description of Problem:There is another thread that discussed this same problem that I'm having: However that thread is so old that the suggestions in it no longer work in Ubuntu 10.04 and for whatever reason I can not make a reply to that thread.As in the above thread, I've tried other input devices and rebooting the computer and using other USB ports, and my mouse still intermittently double left clicks randomly at times when I've only clicked the left mouse button once and at times and places when it should only produce a single click such as when selecting a drop down menu.
Has any one else had this problem, and does any one have any idea how to fix it or to trouble shoot this a bit more? Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide to further clarify or troubleshoot this issue.

I have a new server with Fedora 10. The root user can log in by SSH using an RSA key but for any other user the RSA key is ignored and a password required.Ultimately I wish to access an SVN server over SSH and would like to to have to keep entering a password. I have Googled this issue and found nothing.If I log on as root the /var/log/secure file shows that the key is accepted, for any other user no message is added and the password is requested.I have checked all the config files and as far as I can see they are all correct so I am at a complete loss as to why SSH will not use the users RSA key.

I have an HP mini 1116nr, with the BCM4312 wireless card. I do not have any wireless or wired connection on this mini.I have looked at dozens of posts and different forums, sites, ect and most methods are the same and have not worked for me.The mini comes with a wireless switch to turn on the wireless on the front, I have tried to turn it on at almost every point in my troubleshooting with no change.I have copied and installed the following software pacs via a removable usb hd to my home file in a folder named linux and these are the results I have gotten. I have worked on this for about 10hrs today and several more hours across the week, if anyone can help me I would appreciate a line by line step by step instruction to get through this because it seems I am making an error in the steps in the forum for installing without internet connection.

Anyway I used a workaround to get it working on my Toshiba Portege laptop. However from it stemmed slower graphics, no splash, et cetera. That didn't worry me too much. However, I am now at the stage where I am getting arrays of different issues (that don't necessarily relate) and I would like to just have a nice clean install. I have been upgrading since 8.something and I long for freshness. My files are allready off.
Has anyone patched the kernel or anything? I'm purely a newbish end user and have not been following launchpad or anything. I did the workaround the week of the release. any fixes floating around? If not, I'll go back to 9.10.
