Ubuntu :: Weird Keyboard In Firefox - Open New Tab When Ctrl+click A Link

Feb 4, 2010

I have this little problem with my keyboard. When in Firefox, I have to ctrl+click a link about three times before there is any reaction and a new tab is opened with that link. There is not much chance that there is some physical impediment in the keyboard because all of my other keyboard shortcuts involving ctrl work fine, and I have disassembled and cleaned the keyboard on my netbook (eeepc 1008ha).

Debian :: No Double Click And Run Option

Jul 15, 2011

I have a custom LXDE installation with mostly the core applications. (Read my signature for a better picture.) Because it is custom I do not have the option to double click and run a Linux (not Windows) executable file. When I try to open the application it says choose an application to open it with. Do I have to install an application like gdebi (except for Linux executable) to be able to just double click and run it?

Ubuntu :: Right-click With Keyboard (11.04)?

May 15, 2011

So I'm on a CR-48 (the Google Chrome notebook) and one of the things that are not possible is right-clicking and two-finger scrolling. I don't care much for the latter, but right-clicking is an obvious necessity. I need a way to emulate the right-click action with key press.

Software :: Text Based Screen Cast - Ability To Copy And Paste Text From Screen Cast?

Jan 3, 2011

I'm looking for software which will allow me to record a screen-cast of a terminal based application, recording keystrokes, timing of keystrokes, and audio. I see a couple of advantages to this approach over video capture: Display independence: the viewer can display text in any resolution/style they want, not limited to the resolution of the recorded video. Ability to copy and paste text from the screencast.

General :: Right Click Using The Keyboard From Ubuntu On A Mac?

Dec 2, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu on a Macbook Pro. How do you right-click using the keyboard in this setup? I've read that holding down the command key simulates pressing the "context menu" button on a Windows machine, but this behavior doesn't seem to be present in Ubuntu. I also don't see any way to configure this in Ubuntu's keyboard shortcut preferences dialog. Is there anyway else to do it?

Fedora :: Right-click The Result Is The Automatic Selection Of The Option In The Context Menu?

Feb 23, 2011

I'm a Fedora user, and recently I switched from KDE to Gnome. Since then I'm experiencing a nerve-wracking problem when I use the right-click. Almost every time when I right-click the result is the automatic selection of the option in the context menu which is at the same level as the cursor. This happens more than 50% of the cases. Is that normal in Gnome or am I the only one that experiences this kind of problem?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Error - GstDecodeBin2: This Appears To Be A Text File When I Click The HD

Jun 9, 2010

I have a problem with streaming from .mov from Appl.com. As most of you must know, the iPhone 4 was announced in WWDC 10 on Monday. I am interested in it and I wanted to watch the keynote (available at different resolution:[URL]... When I click on low-large resolutions, Totem opens up and I get this error message:

Code:
GstDecodeBin2: This appears to be a text file When I click the HD , totem opens, and video starts streaming, but it is of a terrible quality (so much for Apple's "perfect presentation" rep). I'm not so sure this is so much a problem of Ubuntu as of my network connection. I have heard that "live" streams are not of that great quality because the video player is prioritizing to deliver live continuous stream, I can understand that. But I want quality video. So, can any of you Linux guru's (I am a newbie) tell me if this is a problem with Ubuntu (not proper mov codecs?), my connection? Apple?

Also, as I understand it, if I were to download the stream, it would have full quality because the player isn't focusing on delivering it live. Is there any app/Firefox extension/hack/terminal code, etc.

Ubuntu :: Adding Right Click -> Keyboard 'v' For Editing A File With Gvim In Nautilus?

Mar 21, 2010

In windows when I install gvim/vim, it automatically installs a context menu in explorer that lets me edit a file in gvim by simply right clicking and pressing v. For someone who edits a lot of files and is really used to vim, it is super-convenient. I want to do the same thing in nautilus. So I installed nautilus-actions and added to the context menu of editing with gvim. That wasn't hard. The hard part is getting that keyboard key to bind to that context menu item. Currently when I right click and press v, it sends the item to trash. I want it such that when I right click a file and press v, it edits the file in gvim. How can I do that? I want a good solution, and am willing to switch file managers/window managers if need be. This particular shortcut key is very important to my user experience.

Ubuntu :: How To Request New Option For Keyboard Layouts

Jun 15, 2010

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 on my Macbook Pro 3,1. I would like it if there was an option in Preferences > Keyboard > Layouts > Options that if selected would swap the Ctrl and Command keys around so that those keys would behave like they do in Mac OS. On the macbook pro the keys go fn, ctrl, alt, command, space etc. and it's really much easier to use command (with your thumb) + z/x/c/v/b/w/q/r/a etc. than it is to use ctrl (with your little finger). If your keys are in the same order as mine, try it. I'm sure you'll find it downright awkward using your little finger for ctrl. You might think that I'm just not used to it but that's not it.

I was used to using ctrl for years and when I started using my macbook pro I was astounded by how much easier it is to use command. In Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 on my mac I was able to remap the keys with xmodmap but while with 10.04 the keys are remapped according to xev it has no effect on their behaviour. I can't imagine adding one more option to the list would be that hard. I have learned how to code in the past but it has been years and years and wouldn't have the first clue where to start in Linux. How I can find and contact the developers of this part of GNOME so that I can make the request?

just want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.

Ubuntu :: Right Click Open As Administrator Does Not Work

Jan 28, 2011

Strange. After a recent update, I can no longer right click on a folder and open it as Administrator. I get this error message:

Unable to determine the program to run.

The item you selected cannot be open with administrator powers because the correct application cannot be determined.

I don't quite get this but why is it looking for a program to run? I only want to open a folder, not run a program. Anyway, I have done an uninstall and re-install of nautilus-gksu but that did not solve the problem. I have googled but no answers I could use.

Again, all I want to do is open a folder as Administrator so I can perform other operations that require root permission on files in that folder.

using: 10.04 LTS fully updated
