I'm setting up a web server (lighttpd) and I wanted to install phpMyAdmin and rpm -i came back and said that dependency was needed for the install. So, OK, I tried to install squirrelmail and got the same error.I tried using webpin to find it and I looked in the at repositories/server:/php:/ sub-directories with no luck.
View 4 Replies View RelatedPretty much self explanatory:This morning I went into the update manager, and found a bunch of RPM package-management stuff such as rpm, alien, compiling tools, etc. What is up with this?I suspect they are setting the scenery for some big press release saying they now support RPM packages in Ubuntu too. Any ideas? (or better, inside info from someone who knows)
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen configuring certain programs for compilation from source it's required to include path to required libraries/packages. I don't know how to obtain that information. For example, how do I know the installation prefix for openssl on my system? It's not in the default directory (/usr/local/openssl).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI feel there's a bit of a misunderstanding going on between C++ and me...My problem is that I have a deque of pointers to a class, and create objects then add them to the deque in a for loop. However, the destructor is called on the object as soon as the loop quits.
Code:
This prints:
Code:
Now, if I change the deque from deque<Test*> to deque<Test> then it works fine - I get:
Code:
However, I can't do this with my actual code, because I am creating a deque of pointers to an abstract class, so it won't let me instantiate the class. (This is all so that I can take advantage of polymorphism, and call functions on a set of similar objects without worrying what type of object I'm dealing with).
So, I suppose my question is: what is the correct way to create that deque of pointers to the abstract class? I don't seem to be barking up the right tree currently.
I am trying to install a package called "mhchem" to use in texmaker on ubuntu but having trouble. I downloaded the .sty file but cannot seem to do anything with it. I also tries using terminal to download and install by typing:
sudo latex mhchem.sty I get an error messsage advising "i cannot find file 'mhchem.sty' Does anyone know what I can do to resolve this? I am using LaTeX for writing my PhD thesis and was originally using Texnic Centre on Windows on which mhchem worked fine.

Some time ago I did something on my laptop in Ubuntu 10.4 which enabled the Ctrl key to create concentric rings around the cursor so I could find it. I still have that, and it's very useful. But I discovered that it also created very pretty ripples in my wallpaper, as if a stone had been thrown into a pond, and that additional effect has suddenly gone away.I can't remember where this keybinding was set up, and I have searched in vain in CompizConfig for it.

I am in process of installing a VMware tools PKg and am being asked for the path to the C headers for the kernel. I've browsed every folder, found lots of 'C' header files and tried these paths but none are being taken by the script. which path I need to provide for 'the C headers' for my kernel? running Piapix, Deb5. The os is running perfectly so I doubt there is error other than I am not 'wise' enough to locate these little buggers!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to run a "Garry's Mod" game server on my dedicated server. I'm using a very helpful tutorial on the Gmod wiki (I cannot post a link to it as I don't have 15 posts or more ).
Now I have very, very little experience with Linux (I am running Debian on it). However, I've gotten quite far in the tutorial, and everything looks to be perfect. I am using putty to access my server, but I also have FTP on it.
Basically, when I need to access a certain folder called "orangebox" (using cd orangebox), an error comes up saying this:-bash: cd: orangebox: No such file or directory.
However, I know that there is such a folder, as I can see it fine on FTP.
I ran a scan (clamscan -r --remove /home/) on my user's home directory yesterday & since I have so many users on my mail server, it takes a very long time to complete. I came back in this morning and realized that there were two infected files found during last nights scan:

View 8 Replies View RelatedNew Ubuntu user here switched from Windows to Linux. I finally was able to install a program that allowed me to forward my pop3 to Evolution mail so that I have easy access to my emails. However, once I ran the Perl script for fetchyahoo, it asked me what the path was on the system for my mail spool or mailbox. Where exactly is my spool or mailbox for Evolution so that I can get my Yahoo! mail into the client? I have the free version of Yahoo, so I am trying to use fetchyahoo in the hopes that I can circumvent Yahoo's no-pop policy for free users. Found a mail location that I was able to get Evolution's mail client to look for emails in. Still having nightmares getting fetchyahoo to run properly, however. This is a mildly infuriating process.

where I can obtain a RPM of a program called "aacgain"?
It 'normalizes' the volume of m4a, mp4 and m4v files quite nicely. It used to be in the Packman repositories but I cannot find it in the ones for openSUSE 11.4 and going back to openSUSE 11.2 (my previous install) I cannot find it there either. I used to have it installed though and it still has a page on Packman's search page, here, PackMan :: Package details for aacgain . It is rather odd, its website, AACGAIN , says that it can only be released as source code due to licensing issues but I can't seem to find it in the zip of the source code for "mp3gain" like it says it is on SourceForge.
I would just like it back on my system after I upgraded to openSUSE 11.4 and I find it rather useful so I am missing it quite a lot.
I got a new computer at work this week. I'm determined to get switched to 64 bit this time around, but what held me up last time was getting my email client to work.
We use Novell Groupwise 7, which is available as a 32bit rpm. alien installed it fine in 32 bit Ubuntu, but when I try the same in 64-bit I get this error:
Code:
dpkg-gencontrol: error: current host architecture 'amd64' does not appear in package's architecture list (i386)
How do I get this installed?
I wanted to convert some deb package to rpm for fedora 15 that I couldn't find an rpm for, I was using alien for that task on ubuntu but when moved to fedora I couldn't find it in the repositories or an easy installable package, I don't know anything about building from source as it's the only way in front of me how to install that program 'alien' on fedora

I am using current and want to install kde 4.5 from alien's, here is my problem. I don't understand the statement below. Below are the steps you take to install or upgrade to KDE 4.5.0. First, change your current directory to where you found this README. From within this directory, you run the following commands as root.
On Slackware 32-bit:
# upgradepkg --reinstall --install-new x86/deps/*.t?z
# upgradepkg --reinstall --install-new x86/kde/*.t?z
There is 1 dependent needed and it is installed but I can't figure out how to go any further. Do I need to add him to my mirror list or what?
Has anyone found an rpm of awn 0.4 beta or even a deb? (32-bit) Is there any way of taking files from repositories (deb files to be specific) so that I can simply convert them to rpm files using alien?
