How can I change the MIME/application associations in KDE so that Firefox and other GTK apps see these settings. Right now in Firefox, PDFs open in GIMP and directories in easytag.
View 9 RepliesI installed a trial copy of Anquet Map V06 under Wine then decided to remove it. Afterwards I could find many remnants associated with the Anquet program which I've deleted. Except what remains is an association between my .gpx files with Anquet and that includes and any new gpx file I download. My interpretation is that during the install process an association has been created with the gpx file type and the Anquet map program. This is what I want to stop. If I download a .gpx file and look at it's properties I see- Type: GPX File -Anquet Mapsv06 (application/x-wine-extension-gpx) I found this file and it's contents-
/.local/share/mime/application/x-wine-extension-gpx.xml

Running "sudo update-mime-database /usr/share/mime" and rebooting didn't remove the association. How can I stop the Anquet name making as association with my gpx files?

I have gone into preferences, but there is no area for pdf reader in the preferences panel. I have tried reinstalling both acroread, and adobe reader bin file from adobe website, to no avail.

My old keys show up just fine in the password manager, but when I attempt to open a file encrypted with one of them, I get the error: "Could not display (name of file): There is no application installed for PGP/MIME-encrypted message header files"
View 1 Replies View RelatedKernel 2.6.21.5, Slackware 12.0 When I click on some audio stream links in my web browser (Mozilla Firefox), the stream comes in a URL ending in .pls, usually listen.pls. As I want mplayer to play it and not the default player, I intend to make the first the default one. In Firefox (2.0.0.4) I can do Edit>Preferences>Content>File Types>Manage and change the actions associated with each file type. However, if the type is, say, PDF, I can can only change the action if a PDF file has anytime been downloaded. So, the same goes for a PLS file.

The Download window not having open itsef, the PLS type does not appear in the window Edit>...>File Types>Manage leads to. And so, I cannot change the action. The action would be 'Open them with this application': mplayer.

so have used the kde screen edge thingy once for Firefox with another application, but now every time that i launch Firefox it uses the half window option and have to maximise it every time. Is there any way to tell KDE that I wish to use maximised screen every time that Firefox launches.
Have tried putting Firefox window to middle so screen edge would maximise window, then close Firefox that it would save that setting, but not listening. Does it maybe have something to do with Kwin?
KDE 4.35 Thunderbird 3.0.4. Attached graphic files will only open with Gimp. Preferences allows me to delete an associated application but not to add one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got sick to DEATH of Adobe AIR and TweetDeck screwing up constantly, and then Adobe announces there will be no more Adobe AIR for Linux. Fine, screw 'em, I'll switch to something else. So I hunt around for the options, most of which suck. Then I discover Choqok is already installed on my machine (11.4). Except the POS doesn't work.
To use it, I have to authenticate with my Twitter account. So I click Add, select Twitter, it pops up the dialog. I leave the alias as Twitter, click the authenticate with Twitter button. The Firefox icon pops up and bounces around - but Firefox is already running. So nothing happens! No Twitter access, no page loaded, nothing. I shut down Firefox, try it again. Same deal. As usual, no one bothered to test this POS software before releasing it. how to get this **** to authenticate to Twitter in the absence of ANY useful documentation for this junk?
Is it possible that Firefox (downloaded via yast from OpenSuse repository) recently has been equipped, infected with a BACKDOOR, TROJAN HORSE?
1. As long as i only startup Firefox everything is ok.This seems very logical, cause the firewall shuts out all incomming trafic.
2. As soon as I enter an url, and the internet page start to appear on screen, the **** happens...When receiving a webpage, the firewall allows incomming traffic over the HTTP connection from the webserver BACK into my computer..

This "very busy harddisk-search behaviour" misteriously disappears again when i close Firefox!

Just installed a new computer with ubuntu 10.10. I assign shortkey alt+1 to move workspace left and alt+2 to move workspace right.When I move workspace the focus application move with me to the new workspace. That is kind of annoying since I usually build up my workspace with mail here, music here, surf here. After sometime with this new "feature/bug" I got application all over the place.1) How do I turn this off?2) How do I enable dragging application from one workspace to another.

At present if I double click an mp3 it opens in the movie viewer for some reason. I know I can use "open with..." to get a file to open in Rythymbox instead, but I have over 800 mp3 files and want to change the default for all of them.
I've downloaded VideoLan (VLC) via Yast but the icon was placed in the audio folder. How do I move it to the video player folder? Also, where are additional icons stored? I run SuSE 11.2 (boxed version) with KDE.

1. shut off the Network Manager daemon
2. change the settings in prefs.js
I have shut down the Network manager but to no effect The relevant setting in prefs.js is:
user_pref("browser.offline", false);

Now I am trying to set the home page i.e. browser.startup.homepage variable (in red color) with my own URL using a script. Here is what I am trying to do but it is not working:

Note that the in the original file (prefs.js), the URL could be set to *anything* and not necessarily www.abc.com. So I need to search for the variable user_pref("browser.startup.homepage" and then set the entire line with my own supplied line (with the desired URL).

With Firefox 3.6 these settings are ignored.
Anyone know how to make this work in Firefox 3.6? I stress that I need a solution that allows me to set the default for all users. Per-user solutions such as going in to Preferences and selecting a mail client are of no use. Sadly that's the only solution I've been able to find. I need a setting that sets a default for all users and this needs to work even if they already have Firefox profiles. (So modifying the contents of /usr/lib/firefox/defaults/profile is not a solution.) I have some_application set as the default mail application for GNOME.
I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a clean drive afyer an issue with 10.04 I couldn't resolve. The attched screen shot shows the error that happens when I launch Firefox. WHat is it, and how do I correct it. I can't find a setting for SSL or anything that might be turned off in firefox, so I guess it's an UBUNTU thing?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04 with dual monitors with a nvidia GeForce 8400GS. I can't figure out how to fix. On the primary screen on the Gnome Panel it shows all my open applications. I currently have VirtualBox, Firefox, and 3 Terminal windows open and they show up on the panel. I can minimize and maximize,etc from the panel bar. This is my issue. If I move say one of the Terminal sessions to the second monitor it disappears from the primary monitor's panel bar.
If I click the hide all applications and show desktop icon there is no way for me to reopen just that terminal window that was on my second screen. I noticed this when I moved my Firefox window to the second screen and minimized everything with the show desktop icon. I could not maximize Firefox cause the application was not listed on the panel. I had to kill Firefox and relaunch.

File type unknown (application/octet-stream is not supported.)" Yet the same PDF document loads fine in Konquerer. Am I missing a plug-in or something?
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) and Firefox 3.6.11, which has an entry for PDF document under Edit �> Preferences on the Applications tab that says, "Use MozPlugger 1.13.3...".
With a desktop environment, there are file associations that goes with it. I'm a minimalistic user, who doesn't use any of such, but still want some kind of file associations to ease my burden. So I'm searching for a program that does something like the following. open file.pdf this will look at the extension, and translate to okular file.pdf. Of course one can always write a bash script to do this. I wonder if there is something existing, so I don't reinvent the wheel.
